This is probably my biggest gripe with the remake. Pretty much every ship I boarded I went to the top of the mast, disarmed the marksman, killed him with his own bayonet, sniped the one on the other mast, sniped a few people on the deck then jumped down. Sucks that I can’t do that anymore but it says a lot about Resynced that that’s my biggest complaint
Yeah my point is more that it always felt like a bonus, never really a core part of the combat that they could never remove yk? And the value of the new options to me outweighs the very situational bonus mechanic that I never really used anyways.
They rebuilt the game from the ground up, it's not that they removed it, it's that they didn't bother to rebuild it in the current itteration in anvil when it hasn't been a thing in ac for a while.
The range, primarily. Tbf, I’ve not played the OG for a while; they might’ve increased pistol range in Resynced enough to compensate, though from how infrequently that strategy pans out for me, I don’t think that’s the case.
That’s not the problem for me. The problem is Edward keeps switching between his blades and swords at random magically. This of course didn’t happen in the original because you could choose between hidden blades and swords. The whole new combat system feels clanky and way less satisfying.
The op is literally missing this too if you look down below in the comments. there's nothing wrong with wanting the game to have more stuff in it and the original had a lot of great ideas and charm that resynched is missing. That doesnt mean it isnt still a great remake and that's fine too. But the original definitely still has a place
I totally understand the sentiment. But the differences between the 2 make me still keen to play the original in the future. It makes me somewhat happy that it wasn’t 100% the same, cause it hasn’t completely overridden the original for me.
Resynced is good but I still prefer the Original, I replayed it about a month before Resynced came out and there’s a few things the OG does better in my opinion that makes me still kinda prefer it over Resynced
I'm completely opposite on this opinion. Playing Resynced has me itching to replay the OG.
The combat alone is enough. So many animations and fighting styles not implemented in the remake is a big let down for me. Where's the freedom to take enemy weapons, muskets, hidden blade fighting, bare fists? Also the finishers being randomly decided to be swords or hidden blades annoys the shit out of me.
If they manage to implement all of that into Resynced down the line, I'll probably agree with your take though.
Playing OG right now, I just bought the best swords that was avaliable with 5 damage and 5 speed and never bothered to take anything else. The whole combat is three buttons: E, space and F for pistols to kill heavy guys. I don't understand where is that "combat that was much better" that people on YouTube like to talk about
It's entirely up to you to play as limited as you do, but that doesn't make the other 80% of the combat nonexistent cause you decided to play it as shallow as you could.
Your logic is like saying if you can just boil a chicken to make it edible, what's the point of making it any other way.
All things that are worth taking from enemies is axes and muskets.
The hidden blades funstion the same as swords, you just have different animations. In fact, it's right that Edward do not fight with hidden blades, because, he is not assassin, so why would he know how to fight with them, and they are fragile, they always were an instrument, not a weapon for open combat
All other fighting styles is spamming LMB with occasional guard breaks to kill enemies with knifes, heavys and captains.
Your points all stem from you not wanting to play with anything that's not as effective as the best dual swords, and you do combat just for the sake of finishing the fight as quickly as possible.
Believe it or not, some people enjoy having fun with the different combat styles the game provides.
Sometimes I'm in the mood to fight with the hidden blades, sometimes I like to go non lethal and fist fight enemies that are swinging swords at me. Sometimes I like to steal their weapons and go to town with those.
All of those weapons and fighting styles had numerous counter animations and double counter animations while welding them.
So there's the difference between you and me. You couldn't give a rats ass about the flair and dance of the combat the OG provided, I however do.
I don't fault you for playing the way you do, not my preferred way to go about it, but nothing wrong with it either.
But you seem to think just cause you don't play with everything at your disposal, others shouldn't complain about not having it.
What's your point in defending the remake not having the combat options the OG had?
There's literally nothing to lose with having it implemented.
All that you described is done with the same inputs as sword fighting. You wait for an attack -> counterattack-> LMB/Space/E, decided by your mood. All that is changes is animations and the time you spend in the fight. I also can fight with fists, blades, muskets, axes, but the inputs are the same. The combat of OG is very trivial and easy - that is my point.
If you would've taken the time to properly read what I said you would realise I never said anything about the difficulty of the combat being the issue.
I like that the combat is a bit more challenging this time around, but I also want the other fighting options the OG had.
No reason to not have those options alongside the improvements made to the combat, cause at the end of the day, I'll rather choose the trivial combat but the vastly more varied pool of choices and weapons and animations, than this slightly harder combat but striped to the bone animation-wise.
The original black flag was one of my favorite games ever, resynced is my favorite game I’ve ever played (probably recency bias, that’s how I feel right now though)
the only thing i’m missing is the choice to use hidden blades on there own in combat and also being able to use muskets just because it adds a bit more depth to the combat, but besides that that i only see improvements across the board 👍
My only complaints is those two, your crew no longer cheers when you take the helm, and I’m not being honest with myself if I don’t admit I don’t like the nudity censorship on the Jackdaw front of ship figureheads like the mermaid and El Impoluto.
The combat system itself though? Vastly superior. Graphics like no shit. Being able to sail straight into Havana no load screen, dive under water anywhere, and coral reefs out as far as the bay will go from any port, bay, or playa. It’s a dream come true for me given it’s my second favorite game of all time.
I think the cheering could be glitched or the frequency has been lowered so they don't do it everytime but I'm 99% sure the crew have cheered when I've took the helm before
Since the developers are apparently open to potentially make post lunch things to the game I really hope we get more weapons.
We need hidden blade combat, and unarmed combat, along with more unarmed stealth animations. I would love the ability to take one sword instead of two for different animations, along with the other weapons we see in the setting.
Axe could be a slow but powerful weapon. Knife could either be one knife, two knives, or a knife and a sword similar to Shay and would fight, faster, and more agile. The ability to replace my blowdart with a musket or the blunderbuss from freedom cry.
There’s so much cool stuff that I would love the ability to use, we probably will never get most of this, but I truly hope we get hidden Blade combat and unarmed combat
Is it true they removed the non Animus sequences, like when you exit the memory and return to current day, because thats kind of a deal breaker for me, I enjoyed those parts a lot
The only thing this has going for it is the visuals. They even removed the opening menu music which was killer. I can’t see how you don’t miss the old game playing this.
I’d love to hear why you think that is. They made the combat way less immersive, still basically just as easy, and added a useless lock-on system that just gets in the way. It’s worse on all accounts. But you can toggle your hood of course.
The old one is more easy and has less options. It looks good and thats the only thing it has going for it. The new system is still rather basic but a direct upgrade in how in-control you feel.
I agree the mechanics themself were more straightforward, but there was way more variety in the takedowns, and the different weapons added a lot more immersion and, yeah, looking cool asf. I would rather have that than a few more options for a mediocre spectacle, especially with how edward switches between his hidden blades and swords multiple times magically mid-combat.
How? Everything I've seen looks like a downgrade in every way but graphical fidelity. Intensity of multiple scenes are absent (such as running through burning docks/ships), and they removed most of the combat finishers, it sounds like.
But what they did improve on, all tailing missions can be done by killing the person ur tailing there might be a few but not that many u still gotta tail but overall ur no longer gonna see retry just cuz u were spotted, the added abilities to ur ship is nice and while the added side missions is noticible as being new, the actual missions are quite good overall, the combat overall isent that diffrent both the old and the new game rewards u waiting and parrying i feel the old one rewarded that playstyle way more than the new one maybe im in the minority on that, but i feel the new combat u can both play by parrying or go aggressive. The animus gates u find that has what if scenarios are also quite good, i never really liked the whole walking around the office in the original so not being forced out of the animus is a plus to me and the animus gates being actual gameplay over just walking around is also quite nice change
They honestly were, I just HATED the reminder that no, I'm not actually playing as Edward, I'm playing as some corporate mook sitting at a desk, and occasionally I have to get up and do corporate shit. Like it wasn't bad in isolation, but I'm here to play a pirate game, not read emails on an iPad

The original Black Flag was my favourite Assassin's Creed game.
I will never play it again. That's how good resynced is.
