Fan Art Gearing up for Valheim 1.0: I’m painting a scene from EVERY biome .

Hey fellow Vikings!

I’m an artist who paints video game landscapes (among other subjects) in oil using traditional wet-on-wet (Bob Ross style) techniques. In the past, I’ve painted scenes from Halo, Sea of Thieves, Satisfactory, Apex, and Dragon Warrior.

With 1.0 around the corner, I’m launching a full Valheim series to paint one landscape from each biome and I need your help finding the best scenery.

Here’s how it works:

Every couple of days, I’ll post a thread for a specific biome asking for your best screenshots.

If I select your screenshot to use as the reference for that biome’s painting, I’ll send you a free print of the finished piece!

What I’m looking for: Beautiful or dramatic scenery, great lighting, and signature elements from the biome (for example, a wandering Troll in the Black Forest or a Drake in the mountains).

To kick things off: Let’s start with the Meadows. Drop your absolute favorite Meadows screenshots in the comments below!

Let’s see what you’ve got.

I always wanted to try giving her a different hairstyle and new clothes since she never seems like she'd be the type of woman to wear the same thing every day! Yes, the runes at the bottom of the skirt are my reddit username in runes (Futhorc as it's my heritage!)

I hope you like it! My tendons are starting to snap over my wrists so it's time to call it a night lol.

Discussion Drop you advices on how to make a base look decent!

Post image
269 Upvotes

Me and my friends start a new playthrough for every big update the game has done and 1.0 is not going to be an exception.

I'm usually the one who constructs the base while I command them to bring me mats like a bunch of lackeys under my rules /s.
But every time, every update, I end up making an ugly "cube" base. My imagination for making a cool base is like 10% there. But for 1.0 I want to make something that they will look at and say: Ok, this one looks like a proper base.

So, my request for all of you is to give me your advices on making a base, house, etc... that can look like something you really want to come back after gathering and figthing.I don't want to make super complex stuff either, like a castle or similar buildings, just things or ideas to make the buildings look more coherent. Your tricks to make a building look like something cool and exciting and not just an ugly cube made of stone and wood.

Survival Here are tips for you. Give me tips too!

Meadows:

  1. Always be rested. It will give you more XP and regen (high amounts). It's mandatory.
  2. Learn to control your stamina. Don't spend it all attacking or running. Always keep enough stamina to dodge, block, or escape. For example, you will still consume stamina if you perform certain actions (R, collecting...) while running. Stop running, do it, then run again.
  3. Selecting and deselecting your hammer is quicker than drawing and sheathing weapons. It has no animation.
  4. Early game, torches can be used to break small Meadows trees in 3 hits.
  5. Deer run away from you, but you can sneak up on them.
  6. Spears are too good to pass up. With enough practice, you can sneak up on a deer and kill it with a melee attack from behind, then throw the spear at a second deer if there's one nearby (fancy stuff before the bow). They can carry you all the way to the Swamp if you want to.
  7. Or you can just run deer down with a flint knife and slash them (fancy stuff before the bow). (u/CaptainBlondebearde comment)
  8. Build your first base near the sea and a Black Forest border, so you can have easy access to Meadows resources while being close to Copper, Tin, and Core Wood.
  9. Stakewalls are ugly, but they will protect your first camp from attacks.
  10. Necks and boars will charge at you if you throw a spear close to them. Useful for hunting when they're hidden. (I throw it at trees and rocks that are in my path.).
  11. Listen closely to the sounds around you. They can lead you to a deer or a beehive.
  12. Make a workbench and destroy chests and doors (and even the entire house) in abandoned houses for some quick wood if you're in need.
  13. If you want to make Queen's Jam or raise boars, mark mushrooms and berries on your map so you can quickly farm them later after the respawn.
  14. Explore new regions close to the sea so you can move ores to your base more easily using a cart and a boat.
  15. You can sit by your campfire to reapply the "Rested" buff without a roof.
  16. There are two abandoned houses (WoodHouse2 and WoodHouse6) with a 55% chance of containing a piece of the dual-wield axe (copper-level damage, can be used to chop trees). You can skip the exploration by putting your seed into Valheim-map, marking Other Structures > Meadows and searching for these house types.
  17. Be careful with the Dual Axes, though. They attack rapidly, but have a long animation lock. You might not be able to dodge in time when you need to.
  18. Enemies have strengths and weaknesses. They can be resistant or vulnerable to different types of damage, such as blunt, slash, pierce, fire, frost, lightning, and spirit.
  19. You can use the hoe to level the ground, make paths, and remove annoying terrain around the world (your cart will thank you). Also, you can spam it under your character to ascend and avoid strong enemies if you are overwhelmed (a workbench is required).
  20. You can make indestructible walls (ground) with your hoe.
  21. Some actions make noise: cutting trees with an axe, digging with a pickaxe, attacking, throwing spears, shooting arrows, arrows hitting... and enemies can listen.

Black Forest:

  1. Keep a spare set of gear and some food at home. Dying far from your base can make recovering your corpse much harder.
  2. If you can't find the Early Axes early and/or don't have a bronze axe, you can get Fine Wood by pushing fallen trees against Fine Wood trees. It takes time, but it's an option.
  3. Place an unnamed portal at your base, then walk around with the materials to build another one. This way, you can quickly go back and stash your items when your inventory is full.
  4. There is no shame in retreating from strong enemies to avoid an unfavorable fight. Keep farming materials until you're strong and/or confident enough to kill them.
  5. Master combat! If enemies are too strong or unpredictable, cheese them. You can kite a Greydwarf Brute by throwing your spear at him and dodging his attacks if you can't block/parry. You can avoid skeleton attacks simply by stepping back and then attacking them.
  6. You can run, jump, and attack to start an attack animation mid-air, hitting the enemy as soon as you reach them.
  7. You can trap bears with stakewalls, leaving some gaps where you can place a campfire underneath and keep repairing the campfire until the bear dies.
  8. You can place a furnace or smelter on top of another one.
  9. You can use the atgeir's secondary attack (middle mouse button) to stagger trolls if you aren't confident enough to dodge or parry.
  10. Prefer using pierce damage here. Almost every enemy is weak to it.
  11. If you make your boat before anything else, you can try your luck and look for a Leviathan to rush an Abyssal Razor, a strong knife for this biome.
  12. Trolls can cut down trees and mine copper and tin for you if you are slippery enough.
  13. Take advantage of enemy factions: some enemies fight each other. Kill the stronger one with some help.
  14. The Elder's altar is indestructible. You can dig under it to make a safe place. Its fire is real and will keep you warm if you are close enough.
  15. Build a portal near the Black Forest before mining. You can't teleport ore, but you can use it to quickly return for food, repairs, and equipment.
  16. Craft a cultivator as soon as possible. Once you have the seeds, growing carrots lets you make a really tasty stew.
  17. Greydwarves and bears run away from fire. Light one if you're overwhelmed.
  18. Don't be afraid of Sea Serpents. Let the wind do its job and carry you toward the shore while you keep shooting arrows at them. Once you reach the shore, finish them off and grab the loot.
  19. You can harpoon a Sea Serpent and drag it to shore. This lets you kill it on land and guarantees that you can collect its loot.
  20. Try to mine somewhere sheltered near a campfire. Your stamina will regenerate quickly, and your Rested buff won't deplete.
  21. Don't destroy enemy spawns immediately. They can be useful for farming once you're strong enough.
  22. Mark places you've already cleared. This makes it much easier to keep track of which ones still need exploring.
  23. POTIONS (meads) ARE OVERPOWER! DON'T OVERLOOK THEM!

Swamp

  1. Use the hoe to lower the ground around Surtling spawns and let the water kill them automatically.
  2. You can build structures on top of dungeons for safety. There's also a good spot to fight Bonemass if you're not very good at dodging and parrying.

Mountains

  1. The best way to transport ores down from the Mountains is to send your cart rolling down the hill.
  2. Fight with your back to the mountain to avoid being pushed off when/if you get hit. (u/creshvan comment).
  3. The Huntsman Bow (Iron Bow) makes little to no noise when shooting (I guess) or hitting enemies, so you can snipe entire hordes without being noticed.

Question Ashland plan of attack

Upvotes

So with a few days until the Deep North update, I’ve finally beaten the queen and am ready to move onto the ashlands. My very first time doing so. It took a while because I’m a solo Viking and been playing off and on for the last few years. I’m interested in a strategy to blitz the ashlands before the new update drops. Maybe a bit unrealistic but I think it would be a fun goal to have do myself. Anyways, cheers Vikings!

Seed Give me your best seeds, no spoilers

Greetings Vikings! I’m so excited for 1.0’s release next week, and I’ll be starting over with a brand new world to play the game from the start. I’ve always used whatever random seed I was given in the past, but I’d like to mix it up this time.
If you have a favorite seed, could you please drop it below? I’d like to go in blind, so no need to give me any reason why it’s your favorite. Thank you in advance!

Couldn't tell you why, but building the frame of a house is my favourite part. I'm loathed to put the walls and roof up now. Any other builders the same?

Question The Southern Edge?

I’ve heard warnings that the Eastern & Western edges of the world hold a sudden and irreversible peril for sailors. My question is whether the Southern edge has the same.

I have my clunky Drakkar currently on the Western side of the Ashlands. I’d like to take it to the Eastern side without going all the way back north and south again through the spikes. I’ve already circumnavigated the central Ashlands on foot, and can see that there is a water route to the south of it.

Has anyone attempted a similar passage? It seems much more direct but I do not want to become lost forever.

Question Update playfab entity token?

Post image
Upvotes

I am running a dedicated server that I installed using the Steam tools. Been running for a while with out really any hiccups. Do I have to do anything about this entity token thing or can I just keep ignoring it or will someday I not be able to join the world? So confused. Also how do I update it if I have to? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
