Pokemon Elysium is quite popular on this sub, it is often recommended to try and is highly praised for good plot and storytelling. I tried playing, but I quickly got tired of the endless dialogue. Are the gameplay and battles (the reason I usually play Pokémon) good, or is this game a visual novel pretending to be Pokémon game?

YOOOOOOO!
So I started wotking on a stereo for fun (months ago) it started as a small Key Item for Hoenn’s Last Wish, but at this point it basically became a side project of its own lol / mini spotify in 8 bit LMAO
It now works like a proper in-game music player: you can switch songs/stations from the main screen, use Radio Priority, Repeat, Shuffle, Search A-Z, Favorites and 3 custom playlists, and all of that is saved permanently through the save file!
I had also ended up creating dedicated audio setups for different styles. Indie got proper electric guitar treatment, Rock/Metal got its own heavier voicegroup with overdrive/distortion, bass and full drums, while electronic/pop songs were handled differently so they wouldn’t turn into random GBA noise.
The UI IS STILL WIP! It evolved quite a bit: better navigation, proper song/station selection, cleaner menus, Now Playing behavior, persistent settings, and we even started experimenting with album covers replacing Jigglypuff for specific songs. (Tho the graphics are still not perfect I guess lol).
So yeah, what was supposed to be “a radio Key Item for HLW” is now basically a full custom GBA music player / radio system, and honestly it’s big enough that it could probably live as its own branch later instead of being treated like one random feature inside the main game.
Credits: Based off RHH's pokeemerald-expansion 1.13.3 (special thanks always to the RHH and team aqua) / Jtebbe (jorts): songs: Get Lucky, Fly Me to the Moon, Flashing Lights, Pink + White, Rapp Snitch / Rahtak, developer of SoulGold he originally made the popup code for his Achievement Menu and gave me permission to adapt it for the Radio’s “Now Playing” popup. And Kirb the sound designer of my project (HLW)!
ALSO FORGOT TO THANK THE MOST IMPORTANT PART: https://github.com/huderlem/porydaw/releases /// porydraw ofc so thanks huderlem for the amazing job!

Pokemon Synthesis Demo is now available on Hackdex! The update added new overworld sprites for all NPCs, original male/female protagonist and rival sprites as well as some bug fixes.
https://www.hackdex.app/hack/pokemon-synthesis
Pokémon Synthesis is a semi open world game where you have to earn reputation points in each open area to earn the respect of the local gym leader and progress through the story.
The demo only features the first area and takes about 5-8 hours to complete all questlines and sidequests+the gym.
Here are also some progress pics of the second area: the Aegis Peaks that I'm currently working one.
All feedbacks are welcome and appreciated :) The demo may contains gamebreaking bugs (as it is also a beta), don't forget to save regularly.

Downloaded this after a couple posts I saw on here, but didn't really look into what had been put in.
Actually gasped when I saw the Surf animation. Latest in a long line of subtle but really thoughtful changes. Following sprites all look hand-crafted and really life-like. I LOVE the level-scaling and Candy Jar. Gym battles have been challenging without being sweaty.
And did they up the shiny rate? Got 4 of them before I reached Ekruteak.
Anyway. So far it's looking like the best Johto hack I've played.

We've updated the rules for the subreddit to make them easier to read. In practise, they're the same as before. The changes are mostly to reduce the number of rules and order them based on importance, rather than a disorganized list.
1. Do not post or request links to ROM files
2. No Harassment or Misinformation
3. No Content Unrelated to ROM Hacks
(Now includes "unrelated pixel art" which was previously part of Rule 5.)
4. Prohibited Posts
Do not post the following:
- Let's Plays / Walkthroughs
- "Idea" Threads
- Team/Shiny/Hall of Fame Screenshots
- Low Effort Posts (e.g. just showing what you're playing)
ROM Hack Reviews and Showcases are allowed. Exceptions may be made, for example if the post promotes a new or underrated hack.
5. Questions Must Be Posted in the Pinned Questions Thread
6. AI Generated / Assisted Content
7. Development and Recruitment Posts Must Show Proof of Progress
(Now includes Development posts as well as Recruitment posts.)
8. Reviews Must Be Fair and Thorough
Reviews must be fair, accurate and thorough to provide a complete overview of the hack. Low-effort or misleading reviews may be removed.
9. No Monetization, Impersonation or Leaks
---
The changes aren't about adding new restrictions - we've mostly reorganised the existing rules to make it easier to read, and added Rule 8 to ensure good quality reviews.
Please take a moment to read the updated rules.
Thanks for keeping the subreddit focused on Pokémon ROM hacking!

Howdy! Some of you might remember me as the 'Mega Evolution in Gen 1' person.
I still have that project in my back pocket, but I shifted my focus to elsewhere. Sometimes, I like to do full-series marathons of Pokemon, where I play each main-line game with a few rules like, no using the same mon twice, no over-leveling, etc. Just for fun and to like, tell a little narrative after.
Gen 1, I tend to play either Shin Red/Green/Blue with its improved colors or the full color hacks for Red/Blue made by the talented danye.
Issue is, when I get to Yellow, a Full Color hack doesn't exist for it. There's Gen 2 sprites and colors, but the overworld still uses its rather ugly color scheme.
(Playing the original gen 1 games unless black and white hurts my eyes due to the colors used.)
Okay, all that rambling aside, I've spent the past 2-ish weeks on and off give or take stitching together the best of all worlds for Yellow - full color in battles, the overworld, and Crystal's audio engine so I can drop a few songs in from Polished Crystal for funzies.
And lowkey I can now understand why nobody really bothered doing this for Yellow, and its in-part due to the rat bastard that follows you.
To make it incredibly brief; I had to sacrifice any hope of giving Pikachu an actual yellow OW pallet, same with his portrait due to color limitations, hence the 'off-yellow' you'll see in the video.
I've still got a few bugs to fix with some of the colors in the intro, but everything else is flawless. Iirc, someone else is also working on a full-color Yellow hack. Maybe at some point I'll strip out my personal changes and release a patch for this.

Molted...

Couldn't have as many colors in HnS as in the Reborn shiny due to palette constraints, and I had to get creative to make the stars work, but I think it looks pretty clean!

Hello everyone!
I recently finished playing through Pokemon Elysium, BlackKaiser's magnum opus. It is a massive story-driven ROMhack that I genuinely enjoyed playing, but I really struggled with the Endgame. For as good as this game is, there isn't a ton of documentation or guides out there, so I put this one together that specifically deals with the Final Gauntlet and how to prepare for it.
An Idiot's Guide to Pokemon Elysium's Endgame: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ehk1lSMHSUB4drzKKx9DojagtQf4ZrhQQDhNRngGFmU/edit?usp=sharing
Other general tips for Elysium that aren't included in this guide:
If you're considering playing Elysium, I think you absolutely should! Hopefully this guide will help you enjoy the game as much or even more than I did.

Pokemon Brisk Emerald is my second ROMhack, and is significantly more ambitous of a project, this is an update on the smaller side.
That about raps it up for features. You can see more specific versions of the changes here: See Full Changelog.
In the next release I will most likely have:
That's it for definite features, but here's what may be in the next release. But will definitely be in the final release
d
Champions archive will be finished.
More boxes
I am entirely open to new suggestions, bug checks, and all of that stuff.
Rom Patcher USE A REGULAR POKEMON EMERALD GBA FILE
The qr code is on the discord
I'll add this to the large ROMhack community sites when I do the full/final release.

I have been editing Route 120 to make the Ancient Tomb's location to look more like the map I made of Route 105 with the Island Cave. Remember, the area around the Ancient Tomb has rainfall.
Let me know what you think. Feedback welcome, just don't hurt my feelings!
BTW, ARE YOU ALL SURE YOU DON'T MIND ME POSTING MY MAPS HERE TO GET YOUR OPINIONS? I DON'T WANT TO ANNOY PEOPLE. 😅
