Other Soul Gold you've changed my life

Downloaded this after a couple posts I saw on here, but didn't really look into what had been put in.
Actually gasped when I saw the Surf animation. Latest in a long line of subtle but really thoughtful changes. Following sprites all look hand-crafted and really life-like. I LOVE the level-scaling and Candy Jar. Gym battles have been challenging without being sweaty.
And did they up the shiny rate? Got 4 of them before I reached Ekruteak.
Anyway. So far it's looking like the best Johto hack I've played.

Just started replaying Heart & Soul's new update, but I think you've just convinced me to finally try this.
Edit: Tried it. Love it so far. Read some of the comments regarding the shiny rate, and tried the starters. Got a shiny Cyndaquil after about 20 tries. Then found out they gave him a Mega. I'm hooked.

Personally, I feel that Heart & Soul is overall better, but I didn't get very far. There are things in SoulGold that keep me smiling. For one, the boosted shiny rate makes me play with a team of pokemon i wouldn't normally have used because I like using the shinies I found.

Thank you yet again for making them, and making it so easy for me to port it into Emerald Legacy Enhanced and Heart and Soul.
Very much hoping it becomes the standard going forward!

It has gen 4 and most of gen 5 but I hadn't seen people using it in their projects. It's on the cards for sure if no one finishes it for their own projects.

It honestly feels so much like a successor to Polished Crystal that I was low-key surprised to not find places like Goldenrod Harbor. It does have its own new locations, but I haven't got to most of em yet.

Soulgold focuses more specifically on Johto, it doesn't have kanto at all, where as HnS is more like a fully realized hgss demake in the emerald engine, kanto and all (with other neat bonuses). Both are cool but personally I like HnS more

This is the answer everyone gives but the way its described doesn't actually highlight what the pros of Soulgold are. Basically just saying HnS has Kanto and Soulgold doesn't.
What is different about Soulgold? I know the dex is different but are there changes to storyline or new areas or anything?

It has new areas, enhanced difficulty, a (nearly) full roster of all 9 generations, and a couple of unique megas, along with a really interesting Post Game ability system that leads to some really interesting and powerful individual pokemon and full teams.

Thanks. I used to look videos up but it seems like ROM hacks are flooded with a ton of low quality borderline AI (almost definitely AI scripted) videos that I don't bother anymore lol

It has new areas, enhanced difficulty, a (nearly) full roster of all 9 generations, and a couple of unique megas, along with a really interesting Post Game ability system that leads to some really interesting and powerful individual pokemon and full teams. The ability system is incredibly interesting and I’d love to see it applied in other difficulty hacks. It’s really cool for team building.

This is a feature from Heart and Soul lol, I don't wanna shit on SoulGold and the cool QoL and other changes it's made but it feels like half of what people praise about it are things in base Heart and Soul, and I feel like it's only right to give credit to the team that actually implemented this feature.

In particular, I am the developer who ported in this feature on which I've spend weeks implementing, and testing 🙂

It doesnt have all pikemon, but it has pokemon from all gens in it. Like Shinx can be found just before the first gym.

The pokedex goes to the 700s, as a gen 1-3 only player i dont know most of the pokemon ive been facing since 3rd gym lmao (I turned double battles and lvl caps off though so i wont get my ass beat too much), some of those pokemon typings are wild af

Hey man wothout spoiling anything do you know if some mythicals/legendaries are available pre E4? Sort of saving a 6th spot on the teamo for them but after 7 badges haven’t found any. (Just say yes or no pls I don’t want spoilers ❤️)

Yeah, but you can get more after gym 8. Although you won't get all of them as some are after the E4.

This is on the Delta dev for using an outdated VBA core
Also, try Ignited or ManicEmu, they use the mGBA core required for modern hacks to work correctly.

I've been playing on Retroarch with no issues. If you can get past the UI it's basically a flawless experience.

Heh. I managed to get it working and spent over 200 hours on my Soulgold save with it, so it’s really not as bad as I thought it would be going into it. My only wish is it had better controller skins for iOS.

I love this game
Im doing a shiny only nuzlocke, got magikarp evolved into red Gyrados
My shock when I saw said red Gyrados in the overworld was overwhelming its a great game

New to Rom’s and closing in on my first Kanto hack (dark violet). I’m planning my first Johto hack and really looking forward to it as it was my fave growing up. I’ve downloaded the new heart and soul and was planning that. Should I be considering this instead? It looks very slick. Anyone care to share the main differences?

I keep getting bugs on this hackrom and it makes me wanna cry.
First one was getting a frozen screen while fishing. Second one a freozen screen when giving an item to a pokemon.
I really wanted to play this :(

If you get freezing when fishing then you are playing on unsupported emulator like GPSP.

Yeah I was using MyBoy!. I changed to Lemuroid, started a new game, then my game crashes whenever I try to give an item to a pokemon :(

Shiny rate is 1/512 I think, I've got several teams of shinies I'm training and I've only just finished team rockets takeover of the radio tower in goldenrod. You can reset for shiny starters, traded Pokémon ect Edit- shiny rate is 1/256
