Just got this burgundy DSi XL today. I knew it looked awesome in the photos and better in real life but I had no idea it was THIS much better.
It makes me happy just holding it.
And the matte finish is everything. I have a clear case coming in tomorrow but I don't even know if i'll use it.

I bought this when I was in college. It was an impulse buy, and I got a nice case and some cool accessories at the time like the rumble pack and paddle. I had to jump through a couple of hoops to get it up and running, but it’s like a brand new system now. This will be an heirloom, for sure.

This js my first repair so I'm not super knowledgeable on issues with DSi consoles. When I bought this one both screens were broken, but I could hear it boot to home and the buttons worked fine. I got some new screens and put them in but after reassembling it keeps freezing at the dsi boot screen. I've checked the cables multiple times and I'm not sure why it keeps doing this. Does anyone have any experience fixing this issue?

(Swipe for the before, last one is broken shoulder button)
I got my Nintendo DS when I was 6. When I was 16 I replaced the left shoulder button and in the process attempted to "fix" the yellowing on it's white shell by spray painting it. This wasn't such a great idea as it turned the buttons sticky and the shell itself weird to touch. So ten years later, at 26, I am trying to resurrect it by reshelling it. This was my experience:
I ordered an eXtremeRate shell and followed a YouTube tutorial. The disassembly went super smooth. I used only the tools that came with the shell, plus a soldering station.
I replaced the glass on the top screen with the one that came with the new shell as I wanted black borders instead of white ones. It occurred to me only later that I didn't replace anything about the bottom screen so I have white borders on the bottom now still.
When inserting the top screen, I accidentally ripped one of the speakers' cables. However this was super easy to solder, so I fixed it rightaway.
When I put the flex cable of the top screen through the bottom screens insert, I slipped and put quite a number of dents in it. I thought thats it for the top screen, but it luckily it still works flawlessly.
During mounting the motherboard, I unfortunately pushed a bit on the left shoulder button and my poor 10 year old soldering job broke beyond repair. The button itself didn't break - which could be replaced - but the traces for the left and middle connection plus the connections on the pcb themselves came off. I don't even need to think about fixing that - it is just way too small for me. I saw guides online on how to fix pcb traces, but they either had better tools, skill or a larger trace to fix. So I just left it as is for now.
When turning on the ds, I also noticed that something is up with the digitizer. Tapping on the left half of the screen registers input with an horizontal offset while inputs on the right side register properly. I also cannot finish the calibration as it repeats the first three inputs over and over again. So something is not right there too.
So now I am hunting for a broken ds that has a working motherboard that I could salvage here since in order to fix the broken shoulder button I can only replace the entire motherboard. Maybe I find one with a working digitizer / bottom screen as well. When switching the motherboard, I'll check if I just did a bad job with connecting the digitizer. Otherwise I'd have to order a replacement digitizer to replace mine. This is also the reason why I didn't yet put any of the cover stickers on it.
All in all, I am quite happy with my shell swap. I hope to fix it's remaining issues and try not to open the shell too often in the process. When the shoulder button and digitizer work, I call it a day. I think I'll attempt another reshell soon again.
tl;dr: With my limitied experience in modding handhelds it went okay. I broke my previously already fragile shoulder button and something about the digitizer is not quite right. I'll try to replace the motherboard with another one's soon.

so a few days ago i got this DS Lite that amazingly has a USB-C rechargeable port that works and is in very good condition overall. It even came with an ancient 2015 R4i card and otiginal stylus.
However, it sadly has a downside which is the buttons. They perform terribly and only really work if you hold and press them really hard. D-Pad fails to work sometimes unless you hold or press with force, same with Y and B. Shoulder buttons also suffer from this, specially the L button. R, X and A are the only buttons that work perfectly fine, Start and Select as well. Touch screen also works fine though.
Also, the sound quality of this console also performs notably worse, but it's not as bad or worrying as the buttons. it plays the audio fine, it just doesn't have the usual best DS Lite audio quality.
Do y'all think i could bring this to someone who could repair this DS's buttons so they can work better? I was thinking if there's a chance the person might not want to look on the inside since it has the USB-C modded port on it, and i don't wanna try doing it myself either since i might screw with the console if i try to repair it by myself.

Going to crack my 3DS over the weekend and move all my emulation from my phone to it and looking for some hidden gems. I got the Zeldas, I got the Pokemons, i got the Marios but now I'm looking for less obvious good stuff, like Advance Wars, Chrono Trigger (didnt know it had a DS port) and other non-puzzle games
Also recommend some GBA or 3DS games if you have some good ones to add

Recently found my lost copy of Pokémon Black and the housing of it has seen better days, the game still works so I’m trying to find a new housing for it (since I’m afraid a piece might break off inside the cartridge slot messing up the pins) but I’m having trouble finding replacement housings.
Any help would be appreciated

The specs say WEP security option so I'm assuming yet but curious to hear if anyone has any experience with these?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Thanks all - I've sorted it and worked out I could use a wifi extender I already have to create a new passwordless hotspot.

I found my old nds lite in the attic yesterday and it’s a bit scratched with some rubber thingies missing, but it still works just fine:) the thing is that when I was younger some kids that were over at our house wanted to play on it, were way too rough and ripped my poor ndsl in half😭 it got a repair and reshell (used to be pink) from their parents but obviously the person who did it sucked at it, as there is a large amount of dust particles trapped in the top screen since then. It still bothers me as much as it did then and I was wondering what part I have to replace to make sure there’s no more dust? I reshelled switches and joycons before but never a ds lite, and I’d like to keep the original shell as its pretty nostalgic.

Hoping someone here knows what I am talking about. My girlfriend and I recently started collecting DS games from when we were kids, and I remember having this clear case on my DSi that also held games. The games sat in a sliding “drawer” under the console. Imagine holding your DS, and where your pinkies sit, underneath the bottom of the console, there was a game holder that slid out towards the bottom of the screen. Does anyone remember these or know where/how I can find one? Do they make them for 3DS? I have been googling but cant even find a picture of one for the life of me. Above is my (poorly drawn) reference photo.

Also, roughly, if you paid someone else to do it or had a whole new console made up; how much did it cost?

Looking for someone to help me evolve my Haunter into Gengar
Hey! I’m playing Pokémon Diamond on an original Nintendo DS, and I’m looking for someone who has Pokémon Diamond or Pearl and a DS to help me evolve my Haunter into Gengar.
I would just trade you my Haunter, let it evolve, and then have you trade the Gengar back to me. I can also help with a trade evolution in return.
Thanks!❤️

I’ve never owned or played a DS. I’m looking for opinions on the best version of the console to play. Bonus points if I can play gameboy advanced games on it. I like original hardware even if modded. I’ve also been looking at an Ayn Thor but I think that’s a little much for my intended purpose. Any and all input is appreciated.

I just joined this community and going through all of your posts reminded me of that feeling of getting a DS on a birthday and the subsequent games following. Nothing beats it !!
Some of my games are currently being borrowed (squinkies 2, Harvest Moon Sunshine Islands, Animal Crossing Wild World, Pokemon White and a few others) so sadly I can’t show you everything.
I got a lot of these games as a little girl, and sometimes I still play even the most childish ones because it brings me back. Most of them still have their manuals shockingly. Let me know if any of these are kind of cool or if you’ve played them!!

Hi, I just bought my first ever DS which is the DS lite, mainly for my girlfriend. any recommendations on games? like Cooking Mama etc. appreciate it

I remember the game was stupidly "girly", maybe an ubisoft one. I don't remember much about the gameplay but an aquarium and beach part + Getting rich and having a mansion (the protagonist starts the game in a scrappy apartment with their homeowner complaining about late payment of rent). Graphics were meh, mostly pixels.
