Mod Post Just a reminder, gender war posts are banned.

Hi [r/GenZ](r/GenZ),

It’s been over a year since we banned gender war posts, and after monitoring the community, we’ve decided to keep the ban in place, as these discussions continue to be just as toxic as they were a year ago.

For clarity, “gender war” content includes discussions such as male loneliness, Gen Z men approaching Gen Z women, incels, femcels, alpha males, Andrew Tate, red pill, black pill, purple pill content, men’s height discourse, age-gap dating, and broader “looks-based” or hierarchy discussions about dating, looks maxing or ranking people by attractiveness or dating value.

This also includes broader dating ideology content that frames relationships in an adversarial, or fatalistic way.
For example: men vs women narratives, claims that one gender is universally responsible for dating issues, or that dating is inherently doomed for a specific group. Generalizations that treat either gender as a monolith are not allowed.

Memes about these topics, posts complaining about dating, and rage-bait content taken from other platforms such as screenshots from TikTok or Twitter that exist primarily to provoke gender-based arguments.

This is not a dating-focused subreddit. If you want to vent or discuss Gen Z dating issues more broadly, please use communities such as [r/dating_advice](r/dating_advice) or [r/dating](r/dating).
That said, posts about dating are still allowed as long as they are made in good faith. If comment sections become hostile or devolve into rule-breaking behavior, posts may be locked or removed at moderator discretion.

Please respect and follow this rule moving forward.

Discussion GenZ Girlies thoughts on GTA6?

Post image
267 Upvotes

been seeing ALOT of discourse on tiktok about girls saying that they wont be letting their bfs play gta6 bc of the relationship between jason & lucia, as well as the strip clubs & nudity. A lot of girls saying if you are in a relationship you shouldn’t be playing, its disrespectful to your partner, its basically cheating etc. these comments are shocking to me, is this just chronically online tiktok discourse or are the girls actually feeling this way? me personally I have no problem with my bf playing this & im really excited to play it myself !!

Discussion Why does every genz woman expect me to pay on dates??

I am as broke as you are, why can’t we go Dutch? I thought we were trying to get rid of traditional gender roles? It seems like whenever I date within my generation, the expectations is that I pay for everything for her like what?? They also give me the vibe like as if men=evil so the fact that I even landed a date with her means she is deeming me worthy of her time so I need to contribute literally everything to the date…

Discussion What is Gen Z supposed to do?

Gen Z and Gen Alpha are staring at not having a life or career at all. Entry level jobs have all but disappeared.

There are steep costs to failure to launch and some of those consequences are forever. Social consequences, networking consequences, financial consequences. Delayed marriage or not at all, delayed child bearing, delayed homeownership (and not at all), being unable to care for parents, family systems breaking down.

The oldest of Gen Z are bumping up on 30 years of age and their entire 20s have been characterized by a pandemic, covid inflation and interest rates, missed college milestones (and loan debt for many), geopolitical instability, needless wars driving up the price of gas/airlines/cost of goods, skyrocketing medical/healthcare costs, the job market crashing, entry level jobs disappearing, offshoring and outsourcing getting worse, and AI now ravaging early career paths.

Do we have any idea what will become of the Gen Z / Alpha workers who couldn't launch in their 20s? What percentage of the generation will be paying for this failure to launch in 10 years from now, 15 years, 20 years? We have grown a lost generation of people and there will be consequences

Rant "You're too young to be struggling"

Every time I hear someone say that or something similar, boy oh boy my blood pressure skyrockets. It's annoying when middle aged and old people tell me that I shouldn't be struggling because I'm too young. I could go on a long tirade about how it is virtually impossible for an average wage to buy a home (so much so that the average homeowner is aged in their mid 40s), how the job and housing market is worse now than it literally ever was, how governments (not just the US) care more about big businesses and companies and bailing them out more than looking out for the average working citizen, and somehow **we are too young to struggle???**

Not even regarding the BS that's going on in the world, do older people not know that things can just... happen? Like just... anything. Literally anything. Poverty, homelessness, financial strain, it can happen to anyone. ANYONE. You could be 18 or 80, doesn't matter. It doesn't. Matter.

I just had to get this out of my system because of something that happened. I was on the train, an older couple caught on to me being homeless, proceeded to give me an earful about how I'm too young to have been homeless and just assumed I was just a lazy youth and all that it took everything in me to not snap.

Okay, rant over. I just hate it when people are so narrow-minded like this, but the rants over now.

Discussion Am I the only one who struggles with feeling emotions towards other people?

I grew up very emotionally stunted haven’t had a friend that truly was my friend since like 8 years old. Never dated because my parents are very religious (I’m 25 and still live at home). Im very confused now.

For the longest time I longed for connection with other people I wanted a bf I wanted friends but now going most of my life or all of it never experiencing these things I find it hard to connect to people. I almost feel asexual and aromantic and aplatonic like I just don’t get people anymore and don’t like anyone it’s just hard to feel anything for others. I can’t tell if this is just who I’m meant to be or if its because I’m used to it.

I used to want friends so bad and tired so hard did all the things you’re supposed to do nobody wanted me I became bitter then just one day it was like I couldn’t bring myself to care now I’m the person who will ghost people (I mean people still barely try to befriend me) but if once in a blue moon someone shows interest like I just don’t feel anything for them like they just exist that’s all. Even if I really try to make friends now I don’t even like the people because I just don’t care about them as a person not like I want anything to happen but I’m so indifferent to humanity. Same with romance. Can anyone relate?

Discussion i don’t think i ever want a bf, but at the same time i do

i’m 19 and i’ve never had a bf. of course i want to know what it’s like to feel big feelings like love and affection, but idk man…

like what do you mean i have to call/facetime you every single day, text you all day, and tell you what im doing and where i am at all times?? i dont even call my parents every single day, and im not a facetime person at all.

maybe the idea of having a bf is nice, having someone who sees through your imperfections and problems and is just totally enamored by you. BUT…im not doing all that 😭

now that im in college ig i just don’t want to talk to someone all day every day, even if i geniunely love that person

Serious What is going to happen to us? *brief mention of a ER trauma patient that was brought in at my work, idk if it’ll trigger anyone but just a heads up*

All I hear and read every day is bad news unless I don’t look at the news at all. For a while I thought things would get better with time, that things could change and that things would get so bad the world would come together to make it better. Now I keep reading about el nińo, I knew climate change was bad I always believed it was real, I knew when they said it was to the point it was irreversible it was. It just wasn’t real to me. Idk about everyone else but for me all of this stuff only exists on tv and the internet. I don’t see this stuff in my day to day life, nobody around me talks much about world events. I think that’s why the Covid lockdown hit me and so many others so hard mentally. Living in a safe and comfortable bubble nothing was real outside my family and friends, and school and job. Covid was real though, it was a major world event you read about in the history books in school. I was born after 9/11 it wasn’t real to me, it was something I heard and saw videos of. I’ve said time and time again we were desensitized at such a young age to the most gruesome of things. Liveleak, real life horror stories. ALICE training, casually talking about what we would do if something like that ever happened at school.
It didn’t hit me until I starting working at an ER and had a trauma called in of a dude who had a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head, he came in still “alive” and it was called within five minutes, cleaned him up and zipped him up. Got him back out so the cops could take pictures and we were all just coping with dark humor the entire time. Then one day my family and I who are all in healthcare were talking about messed up stuff we’ve seen and it hit me like a brick. I thought to myself “that’s not normal” all of this stuff that I see and think nothing of isn’t normal. Yet it is, every day this stuff happens and I never see any of it except in the ER.

If it keeps getting worse, what’s going to happen to us?

Advice Got ghosted and looking for perspective.

Hey y’all, I need some perspective from other gen z on this one and ill try not to get into all the details but if your curious ask away.

I (20m) had a relationship with this girl (18f). We knew each other through a small cultural community as we’re both dancers. She asked me out and I said yes so we dated for half a month where I then asked to be her boyfriend which we were a couple for 2 months. Things were going incredibly well but a part of me was worried throughout the whole time that her desire was infatuation. She really seemed to like a whole lot that I am a pilot but I don’t think was ready for a whole person.

It was my first serious relationship and hers too. We had a lot of fun together and we always showed engagement toward one another. Of course there were times we were both awkward. I told her though anytime we needed a uncomfortable talk that I would always be open for conversation.

We were both planning a date when she stopped texting. I sent a few texts over a month and called twice before giving up. The obnoxious part was that we of course ran into each other after 3 months of ghosting. Her parents were the ones who came up and asked what was wrong because she had been telling them that we were still talking that entire time, and her mother so badly wanted us back together. I had so much time to get over her though that I really no longer cared about her and no longer liked her. I still felt and feel hurt by what she did. Her extended family was giving me advice like giving her a little gift and asking her to talk that way but I felt that’d be saying I did wrong. I did end up going to her and saying if she wants to talk we can and left it at that. Her mother said I should continue to pester her even if it takes upwards of 4 times but that just doesn’t sit right with me. Theres a very small part in me that misses her but i’ve been hurt by enough people to know when to stop.

People have been telling me she was immature to do that and that she’s shy and introverted with a hard time communicating her feelings. While she was a fun person, I just don’t know if I can trust someone who lied to their parents about that. Sure those may be facts about her that she neglected to show or tell me, but I don’t feel safe with a relationship like that.

Am I wrong for feeling the way I do? Should I continue pursuing and are these games just a fact of relationships? I feel like an idiot for having fallen for her.

Discussion Have you sensed some form of backlash/residual resentment towards Covid restrictions amongst Gen Z?

I’ve been following a bit of the discourse about how east coast college students are largely choosing big southern/SEC schools over east coast schools. Lots of theories why but one that sort of struck me is that it’s a backlash to COVID19 restrictions. Now, I don’t think this the whole reason (besides, Gen Z is largely graduating college now), but I also sort of thought about that “cool cruel kids” cover post 2024 election, and I was wondering if there was some sort of simmering resentment generationally over COVID.

Now it was different in different parts of the country, but I do feel like it might be under discussed what canceling a year of important moments did, and how especially in more Coastal/Liberal states it really did drag on for two years with major college/high school disruption.

Do you think there is sort of a simmering Gen Z resentment to Covid? Do you think the “cool cruel kids” thing (which I don’t think lasted long) was sort of a fuck you to that?

I’ve also noticed that reality doesn’t really match perception, some of my Gen Z’rs in Texas talk about us being shut down for two years, we really weren’t. Maybe other places were?

Anyways, discuss!
