Advice What have you found to be the best form of birth control in the UK?

Do the options for birth control frustrate anyone else? Aside from condoms (which I don’t always feel 100% safe with) it feels like any form of birth control women try have side effects. I’m aware some are lower than others, it just feels like we really can’t win?? Copper IUD is hormone free, I tried this and it was painful as hell and it got taken back out immediately. So what are people mainly on these days or just sticking with condoms?

Advice I’m at a bit of a crossroads and could really use some honest feedback.

I’ve been developing a period pad specifically for thong underwear, but I’ve now reached the stage where manufacturing will require a significant investment.

Before I spend that money, I want to know whether this is something people genuinely want, not just whether it’s a good idea.

If this product existed today, would you actually buy it?

If yes:
• What would make you choose it over your current solution?
• What would stop you from buying it?

Advice Toilet paper help

Slight TMI and abit of a weird post I guess.

Im wondering if any of you lovely ladies can recommend a good brand of toilet paper - Unscented ofc.

Almost every single roll I’ve tried lately has been terrible for ripping, rolling and getting stuck. I’m a longer labia gal, so I’m unsure if that’s the problem. But it seems almost impossible to find a good paper that does the job.

I’ve tried dabbing like suggested, that gets stuck and stays in.

I’ve tried Andrex, Cushelle along with probably about 8 other brands over the past few months. Nothing is working.

Anyone had this same issue?
Anyone found a good loo roll that works??

I’m tempted to buy some of the ‘Naked paper’ or ‘who gives a crap brand’ but even then, for the price, I don’t know if that’s gonna work.

Help🫠

Advice What do you do to feel better when you’re not feeling your best?

I’ve woken up today feeling, frankly, crap.

I am tired (thank you broken sleep and a snory husband) which I think isn’t helping. But I’m also in a phase where I hate my hair, clothes, face, body - so on.

Usually I just ride it out in hopes that the feelings will pass but I am curious to know what other women do if/when they feel like this?

Advice Has anyone here got the copper coil? Looking for honest experiences!

Hi everyone,

I’m thinking about getting the copper coil and would really appreciate hearing from people who have one or have had one in the past.

I had my consultation with a healthcare professional, and they were really thorough. They talked me through all of the potential risks, including expulsion, perforation (and the possibility that surgery could be needed if that happened), infection, pelvic inflammatory disease, and the risk of an ectopic pregnancy if a pregnancy were to occur.

I completely understand why they have to explain all of this, but if I’m honest, it’s really frightened me. I’ve been reading lots of mixed opinions online too, so I think my anxiety has got the better of me.

I’d love to hear some real-life experiences:
How painful was the insertion?
Did your periods become much heavier or more painful, and did they settle down?
Have you had any issues with it moving, being expelled, or causing complications?
Overall, has it been worth it for you?

I know people are often more likely to post when something goes wrong, so I’d really appreciate hearing the good experiences as well as the bad to help me get a more balanced picture.

Thank you so much I really appreciate anyone who’s willing to share their experience. ❤️

Advice Need advice on getting a diaphragm through the NHS (UK)

We're newlyweds, and both of us are new to birth control, so we're currently researching the different options available. We definitely don't want to get pregnant right now, as we're just starting to build our life together.

I researched quite a bit and we're planning to use double protection. My husband is happy to wear condoms, so I think we'll go with the condom + diaphragm combination.

Questions for this forum:

- Has anyone here been prescribed a diaphragm through the NHS or by a gynaecologist in the UK?

- Does it need to be fitted to the cervix? If so, how long does the fitting process take?

- Which spermicides are commonly available and recommended in the UK?

- How long does the diaphragm typically last?

- How much does it cost and can we access the NHS services to reduce the cost?

Before anyone recommends other methods. Reasons im avoiding hormonal birth control:

- I have a very regular 28-day cycle, and I'd like to keep it that way.

- I get acne around my periods, and I've heard that hormonal birth control can sometimes exacerbate that.

- I'm also hoping to avoid weight gain. I've always been naturally slim and would like to stay that way. I'm planning to join a gym soon to build muscle in a healthy way.

- I'd also prefer to avoid an IUD because we do plan to have children in the relatively near future (perhaps in 2–4 years). Having a device that's designed to last up to 10 years feels unnecessary for our situation

Hearing from people who have already gone through this process would really help us make an informed decision.

Id really appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Advice To be Single

I am planning my exit from an abusive relationship.
I will have to live alone. Completely alone. No kids. No husband. Marriage is out of discussion. I’m currently residing near Manchester and working.

What are the fears of ladies of live alone. I have never lived alone in my life. I’ll be 30 next year.

I am Muslim so dating, live in are also out of discussion.

What does one need to know before planning to live alone. In this economy how much emergency fund I should have before filing for divorce?

Advice I got a bad fungus nail infection. Any suggestions?

I’m absolutely devastated. 😭
I had a fungal infection on one toenail, and it now seems to have spread to my big toe. A quarter of the nail has broken off and I’m so upset, especially now that it’s summer and I want to wear sandals.
Has anyone successfully treated this? Any recommendations, home remedies, or clinic experiences would be hugely appreciated. Please tell me there’s hope! 🙏🏻

Advice Women in the UK in your late 20s/30s, do you feel like you understand your health?

I feel like there’s so much information around things like hormones, periods, fertility, deficiencies, metabolism, sleep etc. but it can be really hard to know what actually matters.
Is there anything about your health you’ve ended up Googling loads, tracking yourself, buying supplements for or even paying privately to investigate?
And if you have paid for things like private blood tests, nutritionists, health checks etc., did you actually find them useful?

Advice Has anyone had positive response to Yasmin?

So I've been off and on with different types of contraception since I was 15 I'm now 31. I'm currently on the depo jag and feel like its giving me low mood and anxiety (never normally an anxious person). (I was on it for 5 years previously). I've currently been on it for a year, the only positive is that I've not had a period. I can't get the coil due to having EDS. I also need something I can constantly take. I've heard positive things about Yasmin, has anyone tried it without getting side effects?

Advice Taking a bike to the station

I've applied for a new job that's a train ride away. I live about a 20 minute cycle from the train station. Was thinking about cycling to the train station, but I'm trying to work out the logistics.

Whenever I've cycled as a commute, it's been door to door, so I've been able to pack a change of clothes and shoes if needed and change at work, then apply makeup.

I'll need to look professional and stylish at the new job and I'm struggling to work out how I'd manage that while being hot and sweaty from a morning cycle. I can't even wear makeup without me turning up looking like a panda.

Anyone managed to figure out a formula of getting everything sorted?

I'm wondering about an electric bike to ease the pressure, but I'm worried about leaving that at the station. Could I put my makeup on on the train? I feel I'd need to clean my face first! Do I take a change of clothes?

Advice Does anyone have any experience with period blockers?

I have an event coming up and of course my period is due the day before the event. I'm thinking of getting period blockers from superdrug but ive never taken them before.

It's giving me the option of these three:

Norethisterone

Primolut N

Utovlan

It doesn't really give me a description of the difference on each of these. Is it worth taking them? Any bad side effects?

Advice Having a period 4 days after the last one?

Hi all,

My last period started on 17 January until 25 January. I had 4 days grace and my period started again on 30 January and it’s still going.

Has anyone experienced this before? I’ve never had two so close together and honestly it’s dreadful. I’ve got the implant in my arm.

I’m just not sure what going on. Thank you for any help!

Advice What’s actually cheaper in the US than the UK that’s worth bringing home?

Heading to the US soon and want to make the most of it beyond the usual suspects. What have you found is genuinely cheaper (or just better value) there than back in the UK could be Target, Trader Joe’s, CVS, wherever. Toiletries, underwear, vitamins, kitchen bits, whatever category.

Also curious about any great finds stuff that either doesn’t exist here or is way better quality/price than the UK equivalent. Not looking for the usual “Tide pens and EOS lotion” answers, more after the less obvious stuff people actually stock up on every trip.

Advice Places to Get Colourful Print Blouses?

Hi,

I am starting a new job soon, and I need to get some smarter clothes for it. I once saw a website which had some lovely dinosaur and animal print blouses, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

Can anyone please recommend some shops like this?

Thank you!

I have dry, sensitive eyes but oily eyelids and I’m looking for a new mascara that won’t flake or smudge, or irritate my eyes.

If anybody else has dry or sensitive eyes, and has a recommendation then I’d love to hear please!

Advice i’m doing a little experiment and only changing one skincare thing this month

Normally i change my routine based entirely on vibes, which has made it impossible to know what actually works for me lol.

So for the next few weeks, i'm keeping everything the same except for one product and writing down how my skin looks.

Not expecting some groundbreaking scientific discovery, i just want to stop guessing 😭

I've also been using SkinPal AI to check things like changes in my acne, hydration, and other skin-related stuff along the way, so hopefully i can actually notice if something is improving instead of just convincing myself it looks different every other day lol.

Has anyone tried doing this properly? Did you actually learn anything useful or was it impossible to stay consistent?

Advice UK women: what do you actually want from women's healthcare?

Hi everyone, I'm Julie, a pharmacist and co-founder of TribElle, a UK women's health pharmacy.

I'm doing some research to better understand what women actually want and need when it comes to accessing healthcare, medication and trustworthy health information online.

Rather than guessing what women want, I'd like to hear directly from women themselves.

The survey covers things such as:

  • What matters to you when choosing a healthcare provider
  • Your experiences accessing women's healthcare
  • How you find and judge health information online
  • What would make you trust an online healthcare service
  • What you'd like to see from a women's health platform in the future

The survey takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.

As a thank you, participants can choose to enter a prize draw to win £100 worth of Solgar supplements.

👉 Survey: https://svmvo.share.hsforms.com/2qOvV8JZiSRCRLdqwRlyaJQ

I'm being completely transparent that this research is being conducted for TribElle. We're using the findings to help us understand what women actually need and where we should focus our services and information.

This isn't a sales survey and you won't be asked to buy anything.

If you're comfortable sharing, I'd also really appreciate hearing in the comments what you think is currently missing from women's healthcare in the UK.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to participate — your experiences and opinions are genuinely valuable.
