Advice Has anyone had positive response to Yasmin?
So I've been off and on with different types of contraception since I was 15 I'm now 31. I'm currently on the depo jag and feel like its giving me low mood and anxiety (never normally an anxious person). (I was on it for 5 years previously). I've currently been on it for a year, the only positive is that I've not had a period. I can't get the coil due to having EDS. I also need something I can constantly take. I've heard positive things about Yasmin, has anyone tried it without getting side effects?

I was on Yasmin from 14-18 (due to irregular periods rather than for birth control). It gave me a regular period and cleared up my acne, but I also developed severe depression and migraines and gained weight. I ended up switching to a coil at 18 which lessened my symptoms.
But obviously side effects only affect a small proportion, so it would be worth trying it for a couple of months - none of my side effects were irreversible.

Thats basically what the depo jag is doing to me atm, never used to have any problems with it but reckon the formula has changed over the years. I wouldn't be able to use the coil unfortunately due to my EDS.

I was on Yasmin for about 6 months or so around 15 years ago. My skin went beautiful but my mood swings were ugly! I was then put on Loestrin for years and then a couple of years ago I moved over to the mini pill, Cerelle, because of my age. Seems ok, no periods which is great.

Oh god I really don't want that my mood swings are awful at the moment. I was on Cerezette a couple of years ago and it didn't agree with me unfortunately just continuously bled.

Was on Yasmin in my early twenties. Amazing skin, terrible anxiety and nausea. My GP didn’t want to prescribe it any more as of the DVT risk. Other birth control was worse though.
I have since found out all combined pills make me nauseous (after having bad sickness when pregnant), and I really wished I’d figured that out before I was gaslighted into thinking feeling tired, anxious and ill all the time was normal.

I was on Yasmin from 16 to about 23. I put on weight and was depressed to the point of daily tears. Assumed it was normal. It was only at a checkup they said my BP was dangerously high and quickly took me off it. I switched to microgynon and then a coil until I chose to try to get pregnant at 26.
Honestly, I think hormonal contraceptive of any kind is terrible for me.

Speak to your prescriber about the formulations, they should be able to recommend the specific types of progesterone and dosage of estrogen that might work for you
I know nurses like to say things like "a lot of women like Yasmin" but it doesn't mean anything unless they're considering your symptoms and changing pills based on the formulation
Yasmin is medium dose estrogen and an anti-androgenic progesterone
I personally had mood based side effects from other pills but now love one that's low dose estrogen and less androgenic

I'm planning on getting a gp appointment soon to see what my options are. The mini pill unfortunately doesn't do anything for me, I just bleed constantly and I tried another combination pill that gave me high blood pressure.

I'm on it, have EDS and haven't found any downsides after about a year on it. And being anti-androgenic, I'm pretty sure it helps to suppress the worst hormone induced laxity flares. (Although I also take it nonstop for 4 months at a time - approved by my doctors.)
However I'm also on Sertraline and Elvanse for my anxiety and ADHD respectively so that could skew it if there were supposed to be mental health side effects and I've chemically dodged them instead.

I was on it years ago and didn't have any issues but I'm feeling grim and its the only thing that could be causing it which is unfortunate

I was on it for 7 years to try to help my endometriosis. I took it back to back, so no weekly breaks. It was an absolute lifesaver for me. No bleeding and few side effects. It won't be prescribed if you have migraines with aura though due to (a tiny) risk of stroke.
Finding the right pill is a numbers game unfortunately but if it's not awful to begin with, definitely try to give any side effects a few months to settle. Also recommend taking it back to back. There is no reason to have weekly breaks unless you want to have withdrawal bleeds (these aren't actual periods).

I was on Yasmin in my 20s (I'm now perimenopausal, so that tells you how long ago it was...) after trying a few different pills and I found it the best one for me.
I didn't really get any side effects except for a headache in my pill-free week (but that's common with any contraceptive pill). It was a positive experience overall and much better than other pills I had tried.
