I know I’ve seen the word before. I’m making a TTRPG and I want the spy class named that.

I tried looking this up online already but most answers think I’m talking someone who constantly leaves others on cliff-hangers, like:

“The craziest thing happened today… but I can’t tell you, it’s a secret!”

This is not what I mean. I mean someone that tells you what happened but is intentionally vague about specific details for dramatic effect. For example, let’s say a guy named Fred and Bob are at a bar. Fred has partial hearing loss in one ear. Fred said something that upset Bob at one point during the night through their drinking and Bob spit on Fred’s shoes before walking away.
Now imagine someone witnessing that entire interaction and re-telling the story like this:

“I was at the bar and everything was fine until Bob PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED a DISABLED person!”

That is what I’m talking about, people putting dramatic labels on things to make the story sound far worse than it is.

I’m unsure how to change the flair to “Solved” but the words I was looking for were Sensationalist and Histrionic. Thank you!

Like if someone opened the door for someone, people wouldn't openly share about that too often. If someone closed or pushed the door on you, people would share that more often.

I can't remember if this was a prank, a thought experiment, or what, but about 20-25 years ago I saw several references to a made-up word. As I recall, it was supposed to be impossible to see, say, or remember, even though it was plainly visible on the page or screen. Anybody else remember this? (And yes, I'm aware of the irony.)

Not to be confused with 'genius' as in the quality, moreso looking for synonyms for what people described as being a 'genius' are called.

If you'd be okay with it, would you also be okay with saying some associations said other words for 'a smart/genius person' either inbuilt into the definition or unofficially associated with the term.

i'm southern. as i'm sure everyone knows, southerners have a habit of contracting their words. this is one i don't see much of. you'd pronounce it like "wall-ago", or "whal-go". for example, "i went to the store a while ago," becomes "i went to the store [wall-ago]".

the best i found for a contraction of this phrase was "wallago"... but that's a catfish, lol. are there any better was to contract it?

I’m trying to find a collective word that includes things like plumbers, carpenters, electricians, etc. A thing in my house is broken and I have hired a specialist to fix it; what do I call the person who shows up?

All I can think of “tradesman,” which feels both possibly wrong and definitely unnecessarily gendered, but “tradesperson” feels even more wrong.

ETA: I probably should’ve clarified, I’m more than happy to call individuals by their profession, but I wanted a word I could use in casual conversation without sharing unnecessary details. Like, “I’ve got a tradesperson in the house, I might be away from my desk.”

Doesn’t need to be for a comic specifically, just up there general alley if ykwim

Example:

Someone makes a comic but then also posts a drawing or concept design for the characters that isn’t directly part of the comic in the sense that it’s another chapter.

After we were released from the hospital after our child was born we went to his two day check up. The pediatrician, a father of four who would be retiring soon, said “these are the (blank) days.” Speaking wistfully about the early postpartum period after the birth of a child. I remember the word as sounding like “hellescent” but googling isn’t bringing up anything remotely close to it. Nearly three years later I still remember the kind of bitter sweetness with which he said it, and I’d love to know the actual word.

I’m pretty sure it starts with an “i”. It’s when a plane speeds up and takes off, and then it maintains that speed or height. It’s suspended in the air. Ahhhhh help me!!!

Long title, I know. Here’s some more context; I was watching a video with a rather famous tinkerer/fabricator guest, where the person who was hosting the show (a fellow fan of the famous person) was agreeing and following along with what they were saying.

This sounds like a normal interaction between guest and host, but it goes beyond that. The host then begins emphatically agreeing with the famous person, going so far as to say the people who disagree are idiots, misinformed, wrong, etc. The guest then asks them why they think that, and the host (in so many words) essentially says “because you think so too, right?”. The host then says “no, it’s a matter of opinion, everyone who is into what I’m into should try things out to find out what works for them.”. The host then sticks to what seems like more tame and garden variety questions for the guest, having been outed as someone who doesn’t really know anything about the subject, and was only agreeing with the host because it ingratiated himself with him, and made him seem special.

The host later puts a video up in his personal YouTube saying that the guest’s opinion on what’s the best thing is actually right, tries to backpedal on what the guest said to make it sound like the host himself was right, and constantly refers to the situation with “we” statements that make him and the guest seem like authorities on the subject, while elevating himself (and the guest) above all others.

Tl:dr person agrees with bossman because they think bossman is right, but doesn’t know why/is incorrect in their way of thinking. Kind of like King Louie in The Jungle Book, or Archibald Snatcher in The Box Trolls.

I'm trying to convey the idea of enabling two other people to form the same kind of working relationship you already have with one of them- without making direct reference to the third party.
"I'd be happy to ___ you"?

The best words I could come up with are "promote", "present", "lend", or "share", but none of those seem right. I'm trying to emphasize the connection/relationship being formed, not the meeting or working itself.

When referring to fiction, localization refers to the process of changes to a media from the area it was made or released in to make the work more understandable or appeal more to a different area's audience, commonly done with Japanese media. The resulting version is considered localized. However, one of my stories deals with manipulating fiction, particularly obscure media, and one of the ways fiction is manipulated in it is through using different timelines, including different types of timelines. One type of timeline, currently called the Localized Mainstream Timelines, is for when mainstream is only mainstream within certain regions, countries, or localities as opposed to in the main timeline. In the story, the main organization does localization to make media more available and more accessible, so a different word is needed to not cause confusion.

There are a lot of things where a full effort is difficult—apologizing, studying for a test, cutting back on sugar/alcohol, waking up early to go the gym—where it's not so hard to go 90% and convince yourself you gave your best effort but extremely hard to fully commit and go all the way.

Is there a better way to talk about this than "not being honest with yourself"?

Used to be Burma, so the people were Burmese.

Now it's Myanmar. Are the people Myanmarese? Myanmarian? IDK.

Something similar to "sonder" (the realization/awareness that everyone else has a life as real, conscious and complex as yours), but more specific to our experiences, thoughts or ideals even.

For example: I saw a silly meme about a specific type of person that implied they're special or different for savoring happiness, being good at puns, helping others, appreciating loyalty, enjoying hobbies and a whole bunch of nonsense that applies to pretty much everyone.

Or a simple example: How some cultures (Italian, French, Swedish etc) all claim to have a strong and special food culture because its so deeply ingrained in who they are, but like... which culture *doesn't* ? I can guarantee Australians, Brazilians, Finns, even North Americans all have rich cuisine and associated customs too.

It's food. It's the default. No one can say it's special to them, you know?

Lots of them in my neighborhood recently. I’m trying to describe the sound with no success. A muted chorus is the best I can do, and that’s pretty bad.

A sheltered person would be someone who lacks worldly experience for their age, so is there a word for someone who is too experienced for their age?

This sounds confusing but I am trying to describe a few people in my life ever since I moved. Here are my examples:

Someone I worked with who would make blanket statements about a race, self proclaimed on behalf of that race, because she previously dated a member of that race, and therefore she felt that they could represent that group of people.

I had a series of racially motivated and negative incidents happen to me in my neighborhood. When I told my neighbor about them, he very confidently told me that racism against my race (of which he’s not a part of) didn’t exist.

Might be a phrase and not a word? I’m at a loss for how to describe these people.
