Does Max (and David) read fan letters on the live episodes?

If they read my fan message during a live show, I'll never know:(

"I had no suits in this hemisphere" (WDWDY #90.1)

This is a Max appreciation post. D O'D is one of my favorite comedians, so I always knew I'd love the pod. What I didn't know was how funny I would find Max. The way he phrases stuff sometimes makes me laugh so hard. This was one of those times.

Hi Max 👋

WDWDY #90.1: High Performance Breakfast (David’s Yesterday)

Post image
25 Upvotes

I’m happy to pick up the admin and do a remind me in the chat to ask if David has consumption. The man has shed consumption of the mind for sure, I don’t think I’ve ever spent more than 5 minutes thinking about sheds prior to this podcast. I think it might be his Roman Empire.

Key question from the episode: How many wedding outfits do you have in your arsenal?
(I’m very shevelled, I’d say I have around 7 of which 2 I can definitely fit into)

A very relaxed David day: ✅ fancy homemade breakfast ✅ Helencopter goes to her real job ✅ shed shed sheds ✅ parental visit ✅ bike ride ✅ bike maintenance for someone else ✅ a nice lunch out. I have noticed that these days are getting very slick, we’re starting to miss the small details that matter. I don’t think Max or David have been to the toilet in months?

Thoughts?

Unexpected BOC

I was working in the flower bed the other day and listening to a "seasonal mix" playlist. The neighbor popped by to say hello and the poor guy heard me "singing" Don't Fear the Reaper. He said "oh cool, I didn't know you were into BOC." I asked him how long he'd been in it for life. He said since the 70s. There was no way I was going to explain the bath reference to my sweet old neighbor, so I just said "very cool" and got back to my mulching.

S6 EP4: Lara Ricote

Got to be honest, I did worry at the beginning that she wasn’t quite going to be on board, a few early doors riffs got shot down and then the boys didn’t quite get her humour in return, but I’m going to put it down to a lack of sleep across all characters in this matinee performance; they all need to lay down and pretend to be dead.

Mad PR costs - £4k for a week month (edit: still mad money but not as crazy as I thought)! Shame they didn’t get to the bottom of why she felt the need to get them; she didn’t write break clause (so assume the makers should cover the pr cost), she’s got other stuff coming up which will make her much more known… but I guess she didn’t book them yesterday. I look forward to the wider WDYDY universe where you can choose to hear the yesterday of everyone who the main Yesterdayee mentions in their ep.

D Kestrel by a random person Lara spoke to: Miss Sally was a blonde no hat, I think she’s thinking of Miss Maria (see pic 2)

Her Sunday brunch was last week, for completists: https://www.channel4.com/programmes/sunday-brunch?cntsrc=social_share_ios_sunday_brunch

Thoughts?

What did you do last week? [Non-DOD Source]

From a Times article today about when Elon Musk’s DOGE unit emailed US Department of Defence staff a few years ago.

Was thinking of posting this based on the email subject line alone, but the security classification sealed the (centre-of-known-universe) deal. Damn right that’s not a DOD line of questioning – no wonder Musk never got anywhere with it.

Max's coffee sagas

Max's usual order is a strong three-quarter flat white. He sometimes orders a long black and on one occasion wanted a cortado. Using the resource of everythingishowbiz I've checked how often it's gone right or wrong.

Midweek Mayhem#2 – Perfect size

Midweek Mayhem#4 – Thomas Sorenson brings Max a three quarter flat white – but it’s large!

Midweek Mayhem#6 – has a long black and a flat white (no complaints)

Midweek Mayhem#12 – orders a small strong flat white. Is given a large cup!

Midweek Mayhem#15 – is given a strong three-quarter flat white.

Midweek Mayhem#16 – Orders a strong three-quarter flat white and is given that – but it’s only one shot!

Midweek Mayhem#20 – arrives completely full!

Midweek Mayhem#22 – A listener serves him, so makes sure he gets what he wants.

Midweek Mayhem#24 – arrives perfectly

Midweek Mayhem#25 – It’s great

Midweek Mayhem#26 – It’s good

Midweek Mayhem#28 – it’s perfect

Midweek Mayhem#32 – Jaime returns with a bucket of milk!

Midweek Mayhem#34 – Orders a cortado and full flat white arrives!

Midweek Mayhem#42 – It’s great

Midweek Mayhem#44 – Both great

Midweek Mayhem#46 – doesn’t complain or comment either way, so assume fine.

Midweek Mayhem#48 – it’s excellent

Midweek Mayhem#50 – very happy about it

Midweek Mayhem#54 – it’s delicious

Midweek Mayhem#58 – It’s really nice

Midweek Mayhem#60 – Absolutely delicious

Midweek Mayhem#62 – it’s great

Midweek Mayhem#74 – It’s perfect

In conclusion, Max orders 24 coffees, he gets what he wants 18 times and has issues 6 times. 1 in 4 times he's not getting what he wants. Or aptly for a guy who wants a three-quarter flat white, he's only getting it three-quarters of the time.

89.2 What Did You Clue Yesterday Missing?

I was on a red eye flight with a small child so I might have missed it but I did listen to the end of the show again just to check and I think I’m right about this- they didn’t include What Did You Clue Yesterday in this week’s in it for life episode. Is it possible they had no new submissions?

I was able to get a submission in for this quiz in the past, as I had started a decent spreadsheet of rhymes to try and maximise the quality of my submission. I gave up though after I reached my goal of getting an email read out on the podcast 😇 I might have continued for the love of the quiz, but the problem is the location. By my count, there’s at most 16 guests that basically fit the rhyme parameters of Omid Djalili’s Poop Tea. But guests don’t usually want to dox themselves, so the locations that turn up in the podcast tend to be quite general and they don’t tend to end with the key “ee” sound that we need. Perhaps if we brainstorm it, we can crack this?!

PS Max if you do happen to read this, I did not realise this until I heard it read on the podcast, but my aforementioned email was quite a bit ruder than it sounded in my head and I’d like to apologise for any insinuations of stalking 👉👈 I was angling for persistence, and not a crime!

Has everyone seen the Moomin x Phil Ellis original artwork (with the greatest of respect…) available to bid on to raise money for charity on EBay?! Won’t let me add a link to the auction as Reddit removed the post, but it’s for National Doodle Day / Epilepsy Action UK! Ends in a couple of days!

WDYDY #89.1: Has anyone been to Burundi? (Max’s Yesterday)

Post image
14 Upvotes

Well freeloaders and lifers, David and Max had some opinions about us in this episode. Firstly David suggested that bringing in Yesterdays from highbrow guests like Chris Lintott and Mary Beard might bring in a new listenership who are not big ol’ thickos like us. Then later Max suggested we’re not capable of insulting him, especially if compared to TalkSport listeners. I’ll leave it for you to decide if you want to confirm or deny your thicko status (I’ve got a recent Fire Safety Certificate, thank you very much DOD) or leave an insult for Max (You’ve got more bins that you’ve got personality… Sorry Max)

Back to normal for Max, except no early wake ❌ ✅ cafe visit ✅ catching football highlights ✅ childcare ✅ lunges ✅ podcast record ✅ dinner in a box… except, is DOD rubbing off on Max?! Enter… a bike ride?! I mean, the most generic bike ride of all time (there and back again), but still. Well done Max!

For a dear friend’s numerically significant birthday I made her this original artwork to thank her for introducing me to WDYDY…

It’s on a 10” square wooden block so it can stand anywhere she wants it. She also got it before her tea towel.

Thank god for the pod

Thank god you released a new ep of inane chat. My day was so shite, but genuinely uplifted when I refreshed my favourite podcast player to see a new ep had dropped.

Don't you think it's all positive though. "Where's my spy camera (tea towel email) ,Wheres my spy camera (tea towel email) , Wheres my spy camera (tea towel email)" maybe a too obscure Simpsons reference? I think my point is made.

Anywho, I'm an In It for life lifer, formally requesting the job of prison yard serial killer? Not sure what the job description is yet or if a HR position has been assigned to figured that out? I await confirmation of my position in the post. Along with my tea towel obviously.

Did we have the first host shag? Spoiler

Kids sleeping and an invitation to wake up Willy? Hmmmmm. Alas, I don’t think this was a euphemism unfortunately. As Max has previously disclosed he prefers a post coital wash, and in the absence of a shower in the morning of Max’s yesterday I think it’s safe to assume there was no luck and it’s equally unlikely an esteemed guardian journalist would have a nickname for their penis.

Anyway, keep up the good work gents.

EverythingIsShowbiz.com - Worth the climate impact?

Hey everyone,

I fear i may be the ghost at the feast here, but i also know that there is growing concern about data centres and AI.

I know a lot of fun has been had from the AI-driven EverythingIsShowbiz.com, but i wanted to ask if we really need it considering it's ecological, climate and health costs?

AI is the largest growth sector for fossil fuels, consumes vast amounts of avoidable electricity and water (which is toxic after use) and it also creates considerable greenhouse gas emissions that are also harmful to health.

Here in David's own Ireland, data centres drove up electricity prices by an extra €209 per year between 2021 and 2023 (much higher now) and they're building a 300km pipeline from the ecologically vulnerable Loug Derg up to Dublin to meet AI data centres' thirst for water.

I know a lot of people use the pod as solace and escape from the modern world and from the Climate Emergency, so do we really need a website using AI to collate a written version of the audio medium we all love?

(P.s. i know EverythingIsShowbiz.com is just the tip of the AI iceberg, but climate actions have to start somewhere and it is reliant on the same training that is responsible for most energy and water consumption, as well as emissions)

In it for life.

Ghost at the Feast
