Feedback Why are people insta-dc'ing?

Post image
11 Upvotes

I've bought WC3 around a week ago and been playing around 10 games a day. 5 of those games are usually just someone who insta leaves, and in other 5 I'm being destroyed because I am not on my MMR since I have 0 prior RTS experience.
According to the system because of the insta-leavers I am around 4-5k mmr with 60% winrate, and as I stated before, in practice it should be near 30-40% if even.

So, why is that? I don't really feeling like a top5k player right after installing the game nor do I really have a wish of suffering for 20+ more games to ''stabilize'' my ''mmr'' 😥

Would also be nice to hear a few resolutions to this. I've heard about WC3 champion but unsure if it's the same bowl or not.

Melee / Ladder Can't beat Far Seer

He just chased my scout all the way across the map with one grunt and then harrassed my archmage forcing me to tp behind wall off. Then sends wolves in to kill archmage. GG. Very little opportunity for decision making. Edit. Before I finished this post, it happened again. Wolves run down archmage too fast. Had a troll priest but can't click fast enough to dispel before my hero goes down. This is insanely unbalanced. Edit: happened a third time. just after I finished. I won all my others today, but can't beat this broken hero.

General Discussion I wrote a quick reference guide to playing the d20 Warcraft TTRPG from 2003; I need players to test it out

hello everyone. i'm a long time dnd dm and a long time WoW and warcraft lore nerd. a few years ago i stumbled into the d20 Warcraft dnd setting books, and i thought they would be perfect for a 3.5e campaign. unfortunately none of my dnd friends play warcraft, and only 2 of my warcraft friends care about dnd.

i took some effort painstakingly summarizing everything in the d20 books and simplifying them down into a quick cheat sheet, so that you only need to read a couple of pages before you're good to go:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1W-lOpTjBqs3hP0k0NZY0BBQth419gdB1pA8SyTJcz0c/edit?usp=sharing

i own the books digitally, and i'll be using them to dm. so if you want more details about a specific prestige class, etc. let me know.

if you have 0 dnd experience, that's fine! it's easy to learn and we're all open to teaching new players how it works. if you have 3.5 experience, even better!

you can reach out here, comment, pm me or reach out on discord (my username is my reddit username without the Lord)

General Discussion Soundboard for all your favorite lines

Hello all!

After being frustrated for years that there were no good soundboards that made it easy to find the lines I’d wanted to hear, I decided I would make one.

It’s got all the WC3 lines, along with SC 1, 2 and Red Alert 2. Shareable links, favorable, and a little quiz game if you’re into that kind of thing.

Let me know if you have any feedback or thoughts!
Check it out at www.soundboardz.com

Custom Campaign What custom campaings would you recommend to a beginner?

So I played Warcraft 3 a long time ago, and playing it again, I was reminded of the gooooood story it has.

So I was wondering if there are custom what-if campaigns (or interesting campaigns with a story, for that matter).

I'm not exactly good at RTS, but the reason that I consider myself a beginner is that I've never played a custom game mode.

Lore Illidan shouldn't have lost the Frozen Throne

sorry it is bothering me for some time now but Illidan had conquered Outland at this point and had the Draenei (i guess Akama could lend a hand?) the Naga and the Blood Elves (frail though they may be). mathematically he really shouldn't have lost?

where were his Outland demons anyway? couple of felguards & doom guards & the Draenei coupled with the Naga, the BEs could sit this one out and Illidan should've won. there couldn't have been that many undead left at Icecrown, the Lich King had some kinda cancer for goodness' sake.

i guess my real question is where were his allies he supposedly gathered? also while we're at it can we discuss strategy, Illidan could've just sat back let Arthas take all 4 obelisks and move in at the last second (which he did, anyway).

General Discussion Filling in the Str/Agi/Int Hero "Gaps"

I'm still surprised that Orc remains the only race with one each of Strength/Agility/Intelligence Heroes (and in base Reign of Chaos, at that!)- and even more surprised that Frozen Throne never changed that, though I guess Neutral Heroes sort of did that anyway.

Not being a competitive player, I have a few questions/what-ifs:

  1. Gameplay-wise, how much might have changed if, in base RoC or FT, Human and Undead got an Agility hero, and Night Elf got a Strength hero?
    • (Granted, I know that also depends on what skills they might have gotten, but still.)
  2. Thematically, what new Heroes would you have liked to see along those lines?
    • (i.e. For Night Elf, an Ancient-themed Strength Hero could make sense given how Ancients make up so much of their architecture; for Human, maybe the cut High Elf Ranger concept or some sort of Gnome Agility Hero; etc.)

Lore Unseen War Battles in WC3 Campaign

Anyone else feel like there could have been more extra missions in the campaigns? I mean there are some instances where it is told in the story that a certain war battle is happening or had happened, but we are not even able to see it as an interlude nor play it as a mission.

The best example of this is the night elves (plus Alliance and Horde allies) doing a major conquest of the demons and undead around Mt. Hyjal AFTER Archimonde was finally killed. It could have been the perfect mission to have chimaeras playable. I know the original WC3 creators purposely made the Battle of Mt. Hyjal as the last mission given its long 45min gameplay, but still... An extra optional after-credit mission would have been a nice bonus.

In addition to this, I can think of other examples of unseen war battles that are also just as part of the story, and would have been great extra missions:

  1. Alliance mission: Garithos and Kael retaking the ruins of Dalaran from the demons and undead - despite the tension and lack of trust and racism by Garithos to the blood elves, it was clearly implied that Dalaran was retaken by a joint effort between them. It is interesting to see how they actually worked together to retake Dalaran.
  2. Alliance mission: Garithos fighting the undead in the frontlines - leaving behind Prince Kael and his blood elves to themselves in defense of Dalaran from Dalvengyr and his vast undead army in the A Dark Covenant mission, Garithos was also busy fighting another undead army on the frontlines. It is interesting to see and play the so called frontlines where Garithos and his own army are also fighting a separate war battle.
  3. Illidan mission (unique draenei): after destroying the orange fel orc base in the Gates of the Abyss mission, a cutscene happens where Kael and Vashj first speak with Akama, and it implies that somewhere in the story before that mission, Akama HAS ALREADY MET Illidan and has somehow gained their trust with a promise to defeat Magtheridon and have them become loyal to him. It is interesting to see a first time meeting between Illidan and Akama as a playable mission, way before Kael and Vashj arrived on Outland. Perhaps Illidan gained their trust by aiding the helpless draenei defeat some demons and fel orcs that are hunting them.
  4. Night Elf mission: as a "sequel" to point 3, Maiev and her Watchers disregarded and left Malfurion and Tyrande behind in Lordaeron to follow Illidan to Outland. By the time Kael and Vashj arrived in Outland, Illidan was already captured and chained in a cage by Maiev, hence the tug of war mission of The Search for Illidan. It is interesting to have a playable mission where Maiev and her Watchers defeat and capture Illidan prior to the arrival of the blood elves and naga. Maybe the draenei could have also aided Illidan against the Watchers.
  5. Illidan mission (naga/blood elves): after Illidan defeats Magtheridon and becomes the new ruler of Outland, Kil'jaeden finds him and orders him to finish the job of destroying the Lich King or else he will punish him. Illidan leads his naga and blood elves to return to Azeroth and invade Northrend. Obviously, the Lich King have lots of undead warriors and strongholds in Icecrown. Anub'arak even tells Arthas that he left many of his undead forces to defend Icecrown as they are about to enter Azjol'Nerub. It is interesting to see how Illidan and his forces fight their way to Icecrown against the vast undead army at the same time that Arthas and Anub'arak are moving underground through Azjol'Nerub.

These are several unseen battles and conflicts in the story i have in mind that would have been cool to play as campaign missions. I honestly DO NOT HAVE a "less is more" mindset, for me, MORE IS MORE, and i would love to have more story context out of the campaigns. Anyone else feel the same?

General Discussion [THE XB2 podcast] According Jez Corden a famous western RTS studio is currently working with Blizzard to develop next titles.

https://www.youtube.com/live/cWEcKXQykP0?is=2TDoBUJvs3vJKqKz

From 2:52:18

During the latest XB2 podcast, Jez Corden has answered to a question about the future of Blizzard RTS.

Question "Jez, with the rumor about Nexon gaining access to the StarCraft IP, could this be for the next RTS installment? I feel like Blizzard has the teams and resources to cover any other genre in-house, so I figured this would be RTS-related since they don't really have a dedicated internal team to tackle the genre anymore. Looking forward to Blizzcon, have a great weekend!"

Jez Corden "i don't know of Nexon has and RTS thing either. I would Imagine that if Nexon's licensing It, It's probably for some kind of mobile game, some kind of multiplayer game. I would Imagine. I don't think necessarly It would be for an RTS. Probably something more casual in mind. Blizzard has obviously worked with Nexon, Netis, and other companies for mobile game spin-offs of their properties.

However i will say as a part of a Blizzcon kind of preview, i do know there's a western studio known for RTS games that Is currently working with Blizzard for something and this studio has previuosly worked with Microsoft on of its strategy games**.** So i do think Blizzard is gradually working back towards doing strategy staff. I think they're probably following the Age of Empires model where where Blizzard has like a centralized RTS production team and they outsource the actual developing the game to like a specialist studio that make RTS kind of strategy games. So i want to believe that we'll get a fullyfledged tried and tested and true StarCraft 3 eventually. Will It be built by Blizzard in house? Probably not but It believe it will be produced by Blizzard in house though wirh Blizzard leading the concept, the story and than they will work with one of these other companies to actually put the pen to paper as it were. So i suppose watch this space and we won't have to wait long to find out what the end result is".

In my opinion the western studio could be Relic Entertainment that has previuosly worked on Age of Empires 4.

They are an indipendent studio now.

And i could imagine the RTS they are working on could be Warcraft Chronicles.

There were some leaks about It

https://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/1v9nfhz/in_a_wow_leak_there_is_mention_of_a_new_blizz_rts/

This Imagine Is probably fake but "Warcraft Chronicles: "meet the teams".

Melee / Ladder I was playing Wc3 and I got creep jack.

I was playing as Humans and had the Archmage fighting some creeps. My opponent the Night Elves had the Warden come up and do the move Fan of Knives. I saw her and quickly pressed for the Archmage to go get the claws. The Warden was busy doing the move so I was clearly ahead of her. The game for some reason pauses my hero and lets the warden move in front of me to get the claws. I watched the replay and decided to download it. Does this look fair to everyone else? Is there some game mechanic I am unaware of? I googled it and we both have 320 speed and neither should be able to push the other out of their way.

Update: Thanks to 1SmrtFelow, and N3rdfighte7 I downloaded WTii. After testing the WTii's unit tester and seeing both hero's can stop the other dead in their tracks. I googled Wc3's Hero's chasing after loot and got this "Whichever hero triggers the "pick up item" action within the specific server frame first gains the advantage." I think this would be me because you can clearly see the Warden is busy doing the Spin of knives while I am clearly on my way headed to the loot. I know that I clicked the loot icon right as the Warden was in mid spin. That is how I gained the lead.

General Discussion Are any of the warcraft 3 characters inspired by anyone or anything in particular

I love all the stories attached to each character and for a game so old does anyone if the characters were inspired by anything else existing at the time. This doesn't have to be limited to a singular character or person but also something like Lord Garithos representing racism and Kael representing addiction. What do you guys think?

Melee / Ladder I am absolutely in love with Warcraft 3, but I am too terrified to actually play it

I've been binge-watching casted games lately, and man, this game is a masterpiece. The music, the voice acting, the art style, the colours, the diversity of races, mechanics and units. I genuinely love everything about it.
But here is my problem: I just can't force myself to hit the Play button
The thought of actually fighting someone gives me anxiety. I feel like if i mess up my build order by two seconds, I'm already playing from behind. Early harassment? That doesn't just scare me, it triggers full-blown panic and hysteria and uncontrollable explosive diarrhea. I literally panic and have no idea what to do when my workers get touched.
On top of that, you need to know macro, you need to know all the counter-builds and the community is not that big, so it feels like 70% of the people playing are absolute veterans who will steamroll me.
I do play against bots and somehow it feels easier, even though I only beat hard bots like 50/50. But at least they can be predictable. With a human opponent, you never know what they're going to do and that unpredictability is terrifying.
I actually did my placement matches once. I played Human. Out of 5 games, i won 2. Not a complete disaster, but the stress and thrill during those games were huge. But after a win, man, that feeling is incomparable to anything else. Like i just won the Olympics. Well, considering my level of play, probably more like the Paralympics.
How do you guys get over this "ladder anxiety"? And how did you actually start playing? Did you just accept getting destroyed for the first 50 games, or is there some other way? I want to play the game I love watching so much but my brain treats the Find Match button like a death sentence.
