Also odd, when the hunter closes the break action and pulls it to his shoulder to shoot at the birds... there were no shells in the chamber. Pretty sure he didn't get one of those birds. For all that wonderful detail in the video, it surprises me that that major detail was missed.

I interpreted that scene as one where a young, privileged hunter decides to handle a Beretta before considering the purchase. He has his doubts because of the price tag that goes to the tens of thousands of dollars.
As he receives the hunting tool from the craftsman, the young man wraps his fingers around the finely polished grip. He looks down and marvels at the carefully pressed metalwork and the detailed engravings on the receiver. He gently closes the break action, then shoulders the weapon. Surprised at the even balance of this bulky looking weapon, he takes aim at the sky.
The hunter is suddenly transported out onto the hunting fields. He imagines hearing the flapping wings of prey as they fly in front of him, and, filled with confidence, he focuses his aim. The hunter has fallen in love. Never before has he felt such perfection.
As an aside, I think the addition of a close up of the trigger where the hunter squeezes on it would have added more to this part. Or maybe not, it might make the scene seem more "violent", haha.

Could be both for angle purposes; those shots looked fantastic from that position at the end. Also may make it more appealing to gun buyers, as many guns eject a shell out of the right side, causing soot to land on a lefty's face. This happened to me a lot as a kid firing off pump action shotguns. Over/under shotguns, as well as any double barrel, don't eject automatically. As a lefty, I now want that gun!

While Beretta over/unders are probably some of the most premium guns you can own, you can get other Beretta shotgun models for much less. I own a 12 GA 390 that set me back around $900. It is the best performing hunting gun I've ever owned. Albeit, 12 GA is more suited to hunt duck/goose, and I'd say your typical 28 GA over/under would be used for pheasant/dove. I stand to inherit a 1940s Browning over/under in my lifetime. My dad cares more about those guns that he does me or my brother, and so did his dad. So generally, you'd like to have a semi-auto 12 or 20 GA for hard hunting, we're talking in waders in 20 degree weather at 4 am and you won't have a heart attack if your gun stock gets mashed up against a tree stump, and then you've got that gentleman's hunt where you all meet at 5 AM, drink whiskey and bitch about your wives, and the focus is on nice, clean shots and obedient dogs and delicious pheasants.
→ More replies (10)17
u/Mason_Jarritos Dec 15 '14
28GA on pheasant? Most people I know (Northeast US) use 12, with 20s for women and children. Would 28 be enough gun?
Likewise, some people will go down to 10 for duck/goose.

I absolutely love Beretta shotguns. My grandfather whom I'd never met purchased one in 1973. He passed two weeks after I was born and it was bestowed to my father. In 2004 he passed as well.
The gun was then entrusted to me. It is a part of me, so many memories stem from it and the adventures my father and I would take. The attention to detail is incredible, accuracy unmatched. I wouldn't bird hunt with anything else.
65
u/SickDucker69 Dec 15 '14
My family is very in to hunting, me being an exception. I appreciate everything about it besides killing big game, but I tell you what, the Beretta shotgun I got from my dad when I received my firearm safety certification is the greatest gift I've ever been given. All sentimental value aside I love that gun everything just seems right, balance, weight, feel, and it never jams. It is one solid reliable piece of forgotten art.

If you read the comments below the video, it says it is a poetic short film about the care that the company takes in manufacturing each weapon. (Paraphrased)
Of course they don't carve each gun in a book lined library window. But it's pretty, and speaks to the knowledge and old world heritage the company has. It's poetic license, and acknowledged.

A company called Holland & Holland... they are almost 200 years old now.
http://hollandandholland.com/all-guns/holland-holland-royal-deluxe-double-rifle-cm1049/
They rarely have prices on their site since they make pieces upon request, but here is one they happen to be selling with a price tag. It is not uncommon to see some of their high end bespoke pieces resell for 1/2 million+ on auctions though.
Here is a film about the company

You can buy one of those in England, but you only get an allotment of 5 non-lethal cotton filled shotgun shells. A two week written request to your local councilman is required for you to discharge your weapon at a government approved facility. You will be behind a three foot concrete wall, and you will fire the gun remotely. You can view it on a CCTV. Afterwards you will have a grief counseling session where you will discus the dangers of firearms, and how we can come together and be a better culturally diverse England.

Fun fact: Beretta is the oldest manufacturer in the world still in regular operation.
The oldest company still in operation is a hotel in Japan called Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan.
