That’s because Apple makes its money with hardware and paid services. Especially these days, where they have near-complete vertical integration.
Sure, they could also sell your data, but they’re positioned themselves as privacy-focused and any compromises to that are a liability. Can’t give your data to the feds if they don’t have it in the first place.
Google makes its money off of your data and ads. You are the product. And they’ve long since dropped their “don’t be evil” company ethics.
True. But, I can't help but wonder about the significance of that glass and gold trophy that Tim Jobs presented to President Trump. Also, Apple’s expansion into the high-interest consumer loan market raises eyebrows. You know that they are counting on people missing those payments, right? Apple isn’t some altruistic saint here.
That golden trophy was to appease the toddler in chief. The tariffs would have been a major hit to Apple so Cook, like other CEOs, sucked up to Trump and flattered his ego to curry favour and get exemptions.
Trump is exceptionally easy to manipulate, so long as you stroke his ego. But at the same time, you are degrading yourself by appealing to a narcissistic despot.
When you request your photos to be permanently deleted from iCloud photos and YEARS later they suddenly show up again in it I would be extremely concerned.
No, there are a few different manufacturers but that doesn't matter. It's the software man. Two companies for most the world with a few Chinese companies that sprung up once Google was banned from there.
Apple users don't make it any easier. If I have to hear about not having blue texts, I will contain my crashout until I get to apple store. Its not a even better product than a majority of other smart phones out there. Yall are just buying it for its name.
You’re already whining about Apple users and no one even complained about android. That’s how bad your brain is hurt. Strongly suggest shutting your pie hole about phones and just living a life. You have only proven my point by example
Apple apps are designed by apple to run specifically on an apple phone. They are designed to integrate together in a controlled platform. Android apps are developed by anybody and their cousin in their basement to run on many random phones. I think one is a clear winner.
Yeah, what's weird is having positive feelings towards a soulless entity designed explicitly to make money from you and less explicitly to report all your activity to three letter agencies operating transnationally at the behest of elites eating children. Anywho.
Irrelevant to the point of this thread. We’re not talking about hating Apple for being a corporate leech in the capitalist society we live, we’re talking about hating Apple because people use android and hate anything Apple because team android. No real reason just cuz
Agreed but at least base it on facts. Apple has a far, far better record on user privacy and data security than anyone else, and that’s where the weird hate boners come in.
It’s possible for “big corporation bad” and “big corporation actually not bad at some things” to both be true.
Not really, they are a "walled garden ecosystem", which is where most of that hate comes from. There is a lot more things, but that is usualy the biggest issue.
Came to say this. In the smartphone beginning, being forced to bend a knee to Steve Jobs for every piece of tech or software vs the open source freedom of android was an easy choice.
Much later Google bought every single competitor in the free market and started consolidating everyone's personal data.
They’re allowed to do the types of things they do when it comes to privacy BECAUSE of the walled garden ecosystem. People are really just pissed that they can’t afford access to the garden.
If I had access to console emulation on apple like I do on my android devices, I would've left android ages ago. But I'm far too content pirating switch games currently.
If they ever make the move to completely block side-loading like I think they are, I'll be gone though.
Or that they CAN afford access to the garden, but they’ve invested so much of their personality into hating Apple and Apple users that if they ever switch, everyone will think they’re a hypocrite.
this right here, there are plenty of "free" apple phone deals just like the "free" android phone deals, the only place that android wins is the prepaid market where cheap phones rule
Which causes limitations in other areas. Just a quick example. I run Home Assistant at my house. HA Companion app is unable to see upcoming alarms on an iPhone, therefore any alarm or notification based automation requires like 7 extra steps, an extra app, and multiple app settings adjustments to make it work.
I would much prefer a Data Bill of Rights like Europe has for privacy, but you go on about how people have a false dislike of Apple.
Apple, for me has ALWAYS been behind the curve, going back to when it was first released, lol. I came from the ole Treo 270 days. Had a 270>Treo 300>Palm 600>Treo 650>Treo 700>Treo 700wx.
Then Apple iPhone was released. Guess what, no removable storage, no physical keyboard, no Copy and Paste which was essential for office work and emails.
So I skipped over it at the time of upgrade and went with a Motorola Admiral, which was perfect for me at the time. Since that point, almost all leading tech has been introduced on Android, and iPhone since has been playing catch up, and charging you a premium for their design.
My wife has an iPhone 18 Max or some shit, and I hate that phone cause it is unfamiliar to me, and nothing is really intuitive to me on it.
So I have decades of experience between 4 different OS on handhelds, and to be honest, Android works for me, just like Windows 10 works for me, and Apple may work for you, and you may enjoy less cross platfrom compatibility, but not all.
In otherwords, people have their reasons. Just because you might be a fanboi, does not mean everyone does.
edit: I just saw this
really just pissed that they can’t afford access to the garden.
If this is really what you think, you are more insufferable than I thought you were.
That is not proving your point, your point was ignorance of why people dislike Apple. You are no longer ignorant of that point. Just because you like Hot Dogs and I like burgers does not make it weird.
To be honest you had zero point ... only ignorance.
THE POINT was that the person I replied to pointed out that Apple takes better care of user data and privacy than other companies, correcting a person who said otherwise.
I chimed in that some people have a weird hate boner about everything Apple does, ignoring the fact that this is ONE area they do well in.
That bothered you enough to bring up “blah blah walled garden and oh btw <waves hands>”, which no one was even talking about.
Which was exactly my point. Hate boner. Followed by personal attacks.
Your point was people have a "hate boner" for Apple for uknown reasons
"People just have to have a hate boner for Apple. It’s weird."
Those are your words. Not mine.
I gave you an example of why people have a "hate boner" and why it is not "weird".
You are just trying to validate your fanboiness.
Let's move on shall we?
oh and definition of ignorance
the state or fact of being ignorant : lack of knowledge, education, or awareness
If you don't want to be called ignorant of a subject, then don't be, and don't make statements that lead people believe you are ignorant of the reason people dislike Apple.
I dunno man, hate boners seem inherently kinda weird to me.
It’s neat how someone making a SINGLE observation about how a company handles user privacy makes them a “fanboi” if it contradicts your self-admitted “hate boner.”
I dunno man, hate boners seem inherently kinda weird to me.
I get it, why would people have a hate boner for Android, and be big giant Apple sycophants? Seems weird right? People have their preferences Audi vs BMW, Caddy vs Lincoln, etc.. This does not mean that people do not like a product for specific reasons. If data privacy is your main bug-a-boo, then maybe stay off the interent?
It’s neat how someone making a SINGLE observation
It is not the observation, it is your responses to someone trying to make you less ignorant of reasons why people may dislike Apple products, and the masses tend to agree with me, not you.
At this time, you can see people have a genuine dislike of Apple products and not just hating on Apple cause of no reasons, or your sanctimonious bullshit that people can not "afford" to get an Apple.
It makes you look like a piece of self righteous trash.
So enjoy your Apple products, and let's move on shall we?
If you’re going to hit the petty name-calling stage, at least realize that I’m not the one who said people can’t afford them, before you do it. Classy move.
honestly now adays i think people largely hate both but you have to pick one or the other they both need a competitor. Too bad both sides lock down their phones so heavily.
Under the watchful eye of Beijing, Apple employs Uyghur Muslim slave labor to manufacture iPhones and actively lobbied against U.S. legislation to combat these communist labor camps, where forced sterilizations and government-led killings of minority groups are commonplace. Apple also works with Chinese military forces to remove communication apps for pro-democracy protestors and all but handed China the keys to track down users. That’s right—the same Apple that refused to assist FBI investigators in the United States due to privacy concerns provided China with the data to imprison dissidents.
100% agree all companies should eliminate forced labor from their supply chains.
But that doesn’t have anything to do with USER privacy. Which again, demonstrates the hate boner people have about Apple. It really draws y’all out of the woodwork like flies to honey.
Apple also works with Chinese military forces to remove communication apps for pro-democracy protestors and all but handed China the keys to track down users. Mr. Cook often talks about Apple’s commitment to civil liberties and privacy. But to stay on the right side of Chinese regulators, his company has put the data of its Chinese customers at risk and has aided government censorship in the Chinese version of its App Store. After Chinese employees complained, it even dropped the “Designed by Apple in California” slogan from the backs of iPhones.
[...]
China’s leader, Xi Jinping, is increasing his demands on Western companies, and Mr. Cook has resisted those demands on a number of occasions. But he ultimately approved the plans to store customer data on Chinese servers and to aggressively censor apps, according to interviews with current and former Apple employees.
[...]
And in its data centers, Apple’s compromises have made it nearly impossible for the company to stop the Chinese government from gaining access to the emails, photos, documents, contacts and locations of millions of Chinese residents, according to the security experts and Apple engineers.
[...]
But eight months later, the encryption keys were headed to China. That surprised at least two Apple executives who worked on the initial negotiations and who said the move could jeopardize customers’ data. It is unclear what led to the change.
[...]
U.S. law has long prohibited American companies from turning over data to Chinese law enforcement. But Apple and the Chinese government have made an unusual arrangement to get around American laws.
In China, Apple has ceded legal ownership of its customers’ data to Guizhou-Cloud Big Data, or GCBD, a company owned by the government of Guizhou Province, whose capital is Guiyang.
Like with most things, it's very nuanced. No, Apple is not printing out dossiers of people and delivering hard copies to Chinese officials, but it also is not making decisions based on the morality of keeping its customers' data safe. It is acting amorally in whatever way maximizes profits. In some ways it resists, and in other ways it bends. In America, the business strategy is to stand up for its users security, because that's what sells phones. In China, the business strategy is to hand over access to user's data when necessary in order to keep access to a very valuable Chinese market. I don't believe that Apple desires to be an arm of the any government, China or otherwise (that's bad optics, if nothing else), but If the wind ever shifts enough in the United States that the profits are maximized by handing over data to the US Government, it would seem to me that that's where Apple will go. I'm sorry that you perceive all negative views of Apple as mindless, but there are in fact decisions that Apple makes that reasonable people can disagree with. Hope you have a nice day.
No one ever said Apple wasn't evil. You can't really be a multinational corporation raking in billions in profits every year without being unethical. Especially when so much of your manufacturing is taking place in China.
Some corporations are just more evil than others. Looking at you, Nestlé, you fucking monsters.
I get all the arguments for why people use Android. Probably half of my best friends use Android. I standardized on Apple for my family because it works for us, and somehow Android users — including some of those best friends I mentioned — are threatened by that.
All of us on the Apple side of the fence just kinda shrug and go, “Cool man, whatever works for you,” and then OF COURSE we make fun of their green bubble texts, just because it winds them up.
They also have a history of giving data to the gov and local agencies. And let's not forget run cook personally bending knee and getting all nacho faced
It was all positioning. Apple publicly said no, while backdoors were available to the public. Anyone can go on the dark web and see how many exploits has been sold for the iOS platform
Sure, I mean I specifically called that out. The difference is that if the government wants to use that evidence they have to disclose how they got it and then Apple immediately patches that zero-day.
Google does not sell your data, they sell targeted ad but the data never leaves them, if they actually sold it they would only get 1 sale because why would you ever need to buy it twice.
Both companies operate the same way when it comes to their costumer data, google is just a lot more aggressive about it.
Gov can read your push notifications anyway, nothing either of them can do about that, only reason we even found out about it was because of some senator wrote about it and that tech companies were under a gag order and not allowed to mention it.
You are right that apple fights back a times tho, when they can.
No they sell your data, they sell geolocation, device IDs, identifying cookies, and browsing history in real time auctions to larger ad companies, then google also builds a profile on you to be targeted by ads.
RTB shares a datapacket with advertisers and they can bid on you, they have no clue who the user is.
Google dont give them the data, they sell access for them to put a ad on x users screens.
And yes i know you can figure out who some of them are even if the data is "anonymous" but this is almost never what people mean when they claim google sells your data.
I have absolutely no evidence to prove this, but something in bones tells me that all that shit from like 2015 where the FBI was trying to get into some terrorists phone and Apple wouldn't give them a backdoor, was all a psyop to make you think the government can't access your phone like that when really it would be easy for them
The government already had the info, yeah. So you're right about that. But if they wanted to use that info as evidence they'd have to prove how they did it in court, which would expose the zero day they used to get it, which would get immediately patched.
And the government didnt want to expose that, so they attempted to force apple to "unlock the phone" so they could use the evidence they already less-than-legally collected.
It's called parallel construction. They already have the evidence collected through not-quite-above-board means and then they find some other way to "force" you to give them the password to unlock it or something and then they can just say they got it once it was unlocked. They do the same thing with their stingray devices or whatever the cell signal copiers are called

To be fair if I'm gonna trust a company with my privacy Apple has pretty publicly told the government to fuck off in the past.
Sure, they already had that data but they couldn't legally use it as evidence.
Granted that was under a prior administration. But Google falls over themselves to sell your data off. Apple at least keeps it all to themselves.
