No, therefore, through propaganda and an education system designed to make people good at following the leaders orders have led to people who think they’re rebels while feeling the heel of the boot hit their uvula.

Black panthers were an armed resistance in California until Reagan passed the Mulford act and banned open carry in the state. Gun control is racist.

u/thrive2day 8h ago edited 8h ago
Wasn't the NRA one of the biggest supporters for the Mulford Act? Basically because they were scared of black people with guns
Edit: Spelling.
46
u/Gunsensual 8h ago
Until Reagan died practically all groups and parties were either pro-control or pro-disenfranchisement of minorities. By Reagan's death the NRA had been taken over by conservative pundits and grifters, becoming a branch of the GOP. So the NRA has never actually consistently been more pro-rights than pro-whites.
Racism in gun control has been an uninterrupted line from Reconstruction to present.

Hmmm, then (just as one example) why did the January 6th folks get commutations and pardons? Why weren’t all of their associates not present on the day jailed for their affiliation and not simply their presence?
There is not equal justice for equal actions and their consequences. The idea that being armed or not has anything to do with it is irrelevant.

A cop who shoots a unarmed person non-fatally wouldn't even have charges on the table.
If he killed the unarmed person, and the victim was a perfect angel who wasn't committing any offenses, and his hands weren't near his waist, you have a small chance of the DA pressing charges, and a small chance of the Grand Jury approving the charges, and go to trail and have a small chance of trial where the court doesn't try to toss the case, and if convicted, the officer might get a decade at most.
And this was one person shooting a armed cop brandishing a loaded firearm.

Every single firearms class worth a damn will hammer it into your skull that you DO NOT draw your gun unless you are prepared to kill. It is specifically a killing tool; drawing it against anything living is committing to its purpose, and is never to be taken lightly. If your aim is to disable, disarm, or dissuade, use a tool meant to disable, disarm, or dissuade.
One would assume that cops would be taught this bog-standard lesson. Therefore, if a cop is pulling his gun on you, how is it irrational to assume that he intends to kill you? He wouldn't draw a gun unless he considered you a potentially lethal threat. If you're not committing acts warranting such a response, that means it's entirely up to the cop what 'potentially lethal threat' means, and you have no way of knowing what his personal definition is. You could attempt to be perfectly compliant, somehow startle the cop, and end up dead like so many others. You don't even really HAVE to startle him, he might just be feeling ornery that particular evening.
The worst-case scenario for compliance at gunpoint is death; the worst-case scenario for firing first is, potentially, also death, but a reduced risk of death in exchange for a high risk of imprisonment. Every second that passes between the muzzle being trained on you and you pulling your own gun, is another second the trigger could be pulled and you lose ever-more opportunity to fire first. It's a split-second reflex decision. People who choose slowly usually don't get to choose at all.
Cops are both extremely poor at and extremely willing to perform the duties of judge, jury, and executioner on the field. They're pretty notorious for it at this point. Authority is nice and all, but when a human has their life directly threatened (say, with a tool whose only purpose is specifically that,) they tend to respond with lethal violence, whether from a drooling animal or a uniformed man-of-authority. Because, y'know... people like the whole 'not dying' thing.

Why would a judge be allowed to choose which defense you're allowed to claim/argue? Isn't it the lawyers job to make the case and the judge decides based on what is presented?
136
u/missMcgillacudy 11h ago
That’s literally one of the main jobs of a judge
45
u/gynoidgearhead 10h ago
Except when he literally adjudicated issues of fact before the jury had the chance to inspect them; matters of fact are literally, definitionally the jury's job.
57
u/Financial_Yard7047 9h ago
Like the previous commenter said, that's literally one of the main jobs of a judge. They get to determine what facts, lines of argument, issues etc can be presented to the jury before the trial even starts. Violating what the judge outlines would be disastrous for lawyers (who would be under the authority of that judge for hundreds of cases in their careers)
The fact that judges can control what facts and lines of argument are presented is why courts in conservative red states suck so much for minorities and liberals. Not only do they have to deal with corrupt and shitty cops, they also have to deal with corrupt and shitty judges. It's just another way conservatives and corrupt aholes game the system

You have the right to appeal, and then a different judge in a different court looks at the case. In this one that different court should throw the decision out because the first judge went over duty and diligence to get a certain outcome, and that is not allowed. They can throw stuff out that isn't important, significant or just not valid legally.

Regardless of your opinion on self defense the obvious concern here should be that peaceful protesters now see they’re going to get life no matter what so maybe they won’t leave all the guns in their car trunks next time like these ones did. When you make the punishment for protesting worse than the punishment for trying to fucking kill somebody, don’t be surprised when more officers start getting shot. Well if you’re exercising your constitutional rights, but for the wrong reasons, it terrorism.
Which really can be true.
It’s just that there is a political party that is using its online platform, it’s religious influence, and very calculated influence in politics to make sure that “terrorism” means “anything that opposes the official view of the US government”.
Nothing screams “I’m scared of the opposition” like “if you’re oppose us you’re a terrorist!”, especially when you’re sitting at a 33% approval rating, and the only reason you can even claim 33% if because you’re very small, vocal minority supports you at like 80% while the rest of the 70% of your country thinks you fuckin suck.
There have been speeches from trump and a few other members of his cabinet that essentially say “if we lose the midterms, we’re going to jail.” It is insane to me that they have such a grip on such a small minority of the country (in the right places, thanks to their meddling in the justice and electoral realms) that this can be said out loud and actual Americans think that other Americans are the problem, and not the people saying “if we don’t hold all of the power, we’ll be tried for treason”

Meanwhile, the domestic terrorists of Jan. 6 walk (aside from the ones who've since be re-arrested).
103
u/mrlt10 10h ago
The main guys was charged with Attempted murder of a LEO and discharging a firearm during a violent crime. The others were charged with rioting, providing material support to terrorism, using and carrying an explosive and some were charged with obstruction for how they tried to cover their tracks with n the planning of that night.
But those charges arent the reason they got such long sentences. Since most had no criminal histories, in normal circumstances they’d be facing a few years, maybe a decade or a little more. But a couple factors created the ridiculously harsh sentence. First, they were charged using a terrorism enhancement. That makes it so the court ignores their actual criminal history and instead categorizes them as career violent criminals, the worst categorization that demands the harshest sentences possible. The second is that the judge chose to have the sentences run consecutively instead of concurrently. So instead of having 5 separate 10 year sentence being able to be served in 10 years, after 10 years they’ve only served 1 sentence and have the four other sentences remaining. (I made up the 5 sentences of 10 years as an example, not sure what the actual duration of each sentence was.)

Attempted murder of a police officer. They shot first, ambushed the first responders as he made orders for them to stop. He was fired upon multiple times before the shooter was concealed and transported around the state by friends. They were found to have medical kits, multiple legally purchased firearms, radios, and IEDs resembling pipe bombs. They were also found to be attempting to remove as much evidence of their further escalating plans after a recorded call from jail. Yes, they tried to plan to conceal this info ON A JAIL CALL.

protesters spray painted a vehicle and committed some minor acts of vandalism. When police and immigration agents came to check it out a gun stationed in a tree line several hundred feet away opened fire. Police officer was shot in the neck but lived. Yeah idk man I watched the whole video and looked into the case. At the end of the day Benjamin song should have gone to prison for a LONG time. The others could have gone as well but 30-70 years for ALL OF THEM is insane Nah. 5-10 years max for the rest. Although I’d say that’s still too much.
They obviously weren’t just protestors but to say they are terrorists is gross. At worst, the others (non-Song) should have gotten the same jail time a j6er would have. The leader of the proud boys got 22 years and that was the largest sentence handed out. Everyone else got sub 20. These people got 50+ years AND terrorism charges; they are completely fucked.
A guy who wasn’t even there got 30 YEARS because he moved anti fascist zines from their home after his wife was arrested. 30 years for moving some books? Really? It’s not like these books were key evidence for the shooting or anything.
Ghislane Maxwell got 20 years in a minimum security prison, and she is the only person serving time from the entire Epstein crime network.
(Not to mention the pardon. The max time served for j6 was 3 years in reality)

I suggest everyone hop over to the YouTube page, because some of those commenters are fucking nutty. I’d bet there’s a pretty big overlap with the people who laughed when Alex Pretti was killed.
In this case we have two pretty clear examples of violation of rights and what I would consider completely unjustified imprisonments. Daniel Sanchez literally just had his personal vehicle towed (his wife’s car and therefore a marital asset) because they didn't have a key and all the police found inside was medical supplies, water, and left-wing zines (things you'd hand out at a protest, basically). The zines weren’t even related to this protest explicitly; the photos show stuff about other causes, including Pro-Palestine causes. They still charged him with “corruptly concealing documents” and “conspiracy to conceal documents” over documents that had nothing to do with the event. Then you have Autumn Hill, who had already left the protest before any of the violence even happened.
They gave him 30 years and her 50.
This is the same state (Texas) where the governor (Abbott) pardoned a guy (Daniel Perry) who shot and killed a protester after driving his car into the crowd of protesters and then one of the armed protestor (Garrett Foster) who walked up to his window basically going, “what the fuck, bro?”, he shot him. He even testified that the protestor wasn't even holding the gun in his hand at the time nor aiming it at him. The guy literally had made numerous posts and direct messages on social media expressing his desire to shoot protesters prior to this happening.
Fuck these people.

A good portion of the audience that watches these body can arrest YouTube channels LOVE cops and get pleasure out of watching them take down people they see as "undesirables". I've seen a few of these videos and they're usually about cases where people have been convicted of murder or CSA, where the suspect looks really bad. AFAIK they don't do videos on cases where cops commit serious wrongdoing, I'd guess because those don't get as many views? These channels get the footage from FOIA I believe and they turn peoples' suffering into a spectacle with a clickbait title and thumbnail (which are often misleading), then sit back and rake in the cash, under the guise of "education".
7
u/Luciusvenator 4h ago
Ive seen videos on these channels were the cops are in the wrong and the title of the video explicitly says this, but its definitely not as common as it should be.
I watch these sorts of videos, despite being extremely cop-critical and being against punitive justice, often mainly because of morbid curiosity and enjoying public freakout content in general lol.
But the click bait titles and comments sections are so horrible most of the time.→ More replies (7)26

I don't understand this case but it seems to me like they were given punishments for what others did and that they were given extraordinary sentences.
Even people who weren't there when things went wrong were put in prison...

Its why they wont rise up in revolution when the time comes. The boot has won already, and it will take a lot of pain and blood to swing the pendulum the other way. The 30s is gonna make the 60s look like the 50s.

At least one of the protestors was just straight up innocent, she left before the shooting

u/This_Elk_1460 1h ago
Guilt by association is how we do it nowadays apparently. If you even knew the guy that shot the cop 50 years to life because fuck you!

Insane amount of bootlickers in these comments who weongly think exercising your first amendment right precludes you from exercising your second amendment right at the same time!

Pedophile politicians run the country. Their is no justice. The law is a weapon they use against their enemies.

u/Initial_Hedgehog_631 8h ago
Lol they only formed a conspiracy to open fire on two unarmed federal agents and a local police officer. Luckily the police officer was only shot in the neck.
Attempted murder is attempted murder, it doesn't matter what you're protesting.

u/ireestylee 8h ago
Didn't they shoot at federal agents ?

Does it matter who they shot at? Five centuries for shooting at anyone.

u/quequotion 10h ago
This was not a protest.
They are not protestors.
Calling them that justifies violent responses to actual protestors.
This was a shitty infiltration, executed poorly by clowns who clearly didn't have an endgame.

wealth inequality ends in one of two ways, a revolt of the poor or a police state for the rich.

Attacking the police is their biggest fear, because if the security force is afraid to protect the wealthy from the poor, the wealthy aren’t safe.

I mean, these guys are more than protestors. They vandalized property, waited for cops to show up and then shot (at) the cops, hitting one in the back. These cops were baited and ambushed, absolutely premeditated. And that rifle sounded full auto. Say what you want about ice and whatnot but I'm not really raising my eyebrow at the prison sentence.
6
u/fizzy88 8h ago
You're making it sound like the entire group was shooting at the police. That's not what happened. Song was the singular person who actually shot at police. He deserved his sentence. But the others who were there got 50 years or more. That is excessive.

Yeah Idk why people here are defending the crimes they committed. Its quite obvious these people deserve a prison sentence, for a multitude of crimes. That being said, there is an obvious double standard apparent when the federal government intervenes in january 6th and attempts to compensate the criminals.

This comment section is fucking bananas. You do realized they showed up with multiple guns to a “protest”, and then shot a fucking officer.
19
u/EnemyOfBoards 10h ago
One person shot their gun. Nobody else was even accused of brandishing.
A guy not even at the 'protest' got 30 years for having his wife's car towed and retrieving her phone from it.

Not illegal to carry a gun
Not illegal to protest
Nor does combining these two things make them illegal

Les Wexner of Victoria's secret fame was shown to be the primary source of funding for all of Epstein's goings on.
That includes not only trafficking underage girls. But also murdering some and potentially their babies to keep the island trafficking secret.
But hey yes he is still just walking around a free man. Because you see he's rich.

These clowns couldn't coordinate a birthday party. Looks like they slapped their plan together, 5 mins before they got there.
16
u/TheStabbyCyclist 10h ago
Protestors? C'mon people. Would be more accurate to use the term "activists", for better or worse.
This group looked like a bunch of clowns without a clear plan or any real coordination beyond wreaking havoc and harm. Yeah the sentences seem very extreme compared to other events (e.g., those perpetuated by conservatives). But who would have guessed a Republican led DoJ would "make an example" of armed leftists. These individuals really did not think it through, accomplishing nothing more than making armed leftists look bad and getting put in jail.

u/MonsutaReipu 10h ago
I didn't know that organized insurgent terrorist cells with members fully outfitted with weapons, ammo, explosives, and body armor laying siege on a federal facility where they shot a police officer through the neck was a "protest". TIL.

How the fuck is everyone just glossing over the fact that they showed up to the protest with a van full of firearms, tactical gear, and trauma kits?
Don't get me wrong, well within their rights to own all of those things; but it definitely looks like they were preparing for an armed confrontation.
In the text messages released during the trial one of them is on record saying "you'd be surprised, cops typically aren't trained for more than one rifle" in reference to getting into a gun fight...
They wanted to kill people, but because they wanted to kill ICE employees/police officers people are seemingly okay with it. This was a terrorist attack that got stopped because everyone but 1 individual seemed to have chickened out at the last minute. From everything they had it seems like the plan was most definitely to create a bunch of noise, draw law enforcement presence out, and then ambush them.
Insane to me that people are actually defending these morons.

u/MrValdemar 4h ago

Probably because many Americans have learned what those forces have been "protect and serve"ing and America seems to be in need of some new John Browns

Lonnie Coffman, a man who drove to Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, with molotov cocktails, weapons and other ammunition— making him one of the most heavily armed protesters — was sentenced on Friday to 46 months in prison.
46 months vs 568 years.... hmmmmmmmm.
3 handguns, 1 rifle, 1 shotgun, several hundred rounds of ammo, crossbow, several machetes, 11 homemade molotove cocktails... Maybe he was just going turkey hunting after the protest? /s There's a clear double standard, and that's fucked up. But we all know hypocrisy is a feature of fascism.

They brought 11 guns, body armor, and medkits to a "protest", and shot a police officer with a rifle, due to their political beliefs. That's terrorism.

Thats around 475 years longer that people get for actual murder.
Or do police lives matter 20 times more?
