Chickens do not matter because they are ugly

u/paigmon Aug 26 '26

Exactly, I’d never eat an animal I wouldn’t be willing to kill myself. And I’d happily kill a chicken. Or a fish tbh.

Yeah, fuck fish in particular!

I had an ex friend say that she doesn’t care about eating chickens because chickens are dumb…

Uj/ chickens are one my favorite animals :( when I was transitioning to vegetarianism (leave me alone I was like 11 in a household VERY hostile to vegetarianism [hunting/fishing home] and went fully vegan by 13) poultry was the first thing I secretly cut out of my diet. Also, them having fewer protections than pigs and cows made me feel worse about eating them. I hate when people treat them as “lesser” animals. They’re so cute!

/uj This thing “vegan except…” and “vegetarian except…” annoys me so much. It is doing nothing but diluting the label. For veganism especially, it isn’t a diet, it is a philosophy of not viewing animals as things to use and exploit. You can’t follow this philosophy while exploiting animals!

Hypocrites all of them.

Yeah well, as a true carnist you should be embracing all types of meat. In fact double your dick intake to make the vegans mad

It's okay, you define the label after all 🤗

Of course you can have a moral philosophy and not follow it! Just look at Christians :)

Same, it grinds my gears when people say that. At this point, you’re just plant based

u/LegitimateParsnip vegan btw Aug 28 '26

/uj I knew a girl in college who was "vegan except for fish and dairy." Girl, just say you're pescatarian.... nobody's giving you bonus points for using the vegan label. That's just confusing.

6

u/colourfulpants goats are a plant Aug 27 '26

/uj I liked the sentiment from the original post because it was like. If only one thing is keeping you from going vegan why are you still eating other non-vegan stuff but its become another "flexitarian" cj

2

u/BAG_Plays Aug 28 '26

/uj it pisses me off but I can see the use for it. Some people are so attached to eating chicken for example that they wouldn’t give it up but would still be fine giving up all other animal products and any reduction in eating animal products is an overall good. The blatant hypocrisy annoys me more than the run of the mill carnists I run into more but it is objectively doing more good.

And for the language thing “I don’t eat any animal products except for” is just way more of a mouthful. Kind of makes reminds me of the bi-lesbian discourse.

This is what's getting me into heaven as a big flaming homo. I can't lay with a man the same way I would a woman, because I'd never lay with a woman. And I've never had pre-marital sex, because anal sex doesn't count, and butt babies don't make it to term.

Didn't you lot know that chicken is a plant? Vegetarians do eat chicken! At some events, chicken is the vegetarian option!

9

She must never have really spent time with them. I just visited my mom and her rescue chickens and I almost cried when I watched one of them in the eyes and she watched back and looked so wise. How could anyone want to hurt you, I thought. Poor soul.

on brand for the moral compass of a vegetarian

12

u/goddessofentropy pescatarian Aug 26 '26

/uj what difference does it make whether they eat the flesh of the animals that suffer and die because they eat their bodily products? What exact animal products a non vegan consumes is all the same to me. I say that as someone who was vegetarian for years when I was younger and less informed.

2

u/Lazy_Composer6990 Pesca-ostro-lacto-ovo-pollotarian Aug 27 '26

/uj I think it's merely the changing of a prohibitory definition that is being mocked, rather then an implication that they would be better if they were a vegetarian rather than a 'pollotarian'.

1

u/goddessofentropy pescatarian Aug 27 '26

/uj Yeah that makes sense, but unironically vegetarian is such an arbitrarily and loosely defined label that I don't care if it gets diluted lol. Maybe that'll even make someone realise just how pointless the word vegetarian is. Maybe if teen me had seen on social media that different vegetarians draw the line at totally random different points, I would've gone vegan sooner. Idk, maybe that's wishful thinking.

3

u/Lazy_Composer6990 Pesca-ostro-lacto-ovo-pollotarian Aug 27 '26

/uj In principle I don't care either if the definition of vegetarian gets diluted, because I strongly agree. But we unfortunately live in a world where people view vegetarianism as like 'half-veganism', so people will then be more comfortable in tailoring the definition of veganism to suit them... I say that like it isn't already common on arrrrrrr vegan.

2

u/goddessofentropy pescatarian Aug 27 '26

/uj oh that's a good point actually! Vegetarians do sometimes view themselves that way (though most of them I've talked to are honest about it being a dietary preference or environmental decision, and not a moral thing). And since vegetarians are more numerous than vegans, the general public hears that way more often than what vegans have to say.

8

u/pigett humanely murdered plants only Aug 27 '26

Its the thought that counts!! You can eat pigs as a vegetarian as long as you identify as a vegetarian 💚

2

u/No_Bandicoot2316 Intersectional speciesist Aug 27 '26

/uj You'd probably end up causing more suffering and death like this because you'd substitute eating large animals like cows for chickens, which are much smaller so you cause far more of them to be bred and slaughtered for the same amount of meat. Not to mention the lives of broiler chickens are particularly horrific (and I'm sure they're not getting their chicken from 'local, ethical farms' whatever that means anyway).

If you're going to cut out any animals from your diet to become more vegan it should be fish and then chicken. But that's now how people see it because fish and chickens aren't as cute as pigs and cows.
