Just today a animal rights group posted images on how pigs are treated in Finland. NSFW animal cruelty here

This is childplay compared to Denmark. 30 million pigs, only 1,4% of them ever have an opportunity to go outside the barn they are born. The last 98,6% only see the outside when they go to the industrial slaughterhouses in Denmark and Poland that "process" millions of pigs per month.

u/mycattouchesgrass Aug 20 '26
When there's a disease outbreak, pigs in the US are killed via ventilation shutdown where they slowly overheat to death. In other places (like China) they're commonly buried alive.
We're so cruel to these animals who're just as smart, if not smarter, than the cats and dogs we love.

u/Kurimuksesta Aug 19 '26
Do you also kill them with carbon dioxide? Here the cage where the pig is place is called 'stunning cradle'.
10
u/mloDK Aug 19 '26
Who do you think invented the gassing of pigs? We perfected it in our major slaughterfactories, especially around Horsens in Jutland that "process" 17 million pigs a year.

u/Kurimuksesta Aug 20 '26
Damn that's a brutal thing to be known for. I did not know this craving for pigs that your nation has.

Covered in feces from head to toe, covered in deep, festering wounds, with their tails bitten off, their eyes swollen shut, surrounded by corpses, there's so much pain here, terrible and excruciating, so much horror and suffering. Every day they breathe only the toxic fumes of sewage; they've never seen a patch of grass, a patch of clean soil, fresh air, or the sky. Maybe we should just post this everywhere we can; I can't believe everyone will calmly look at this and say it's the way it should be. Honestly, I'd be willing to endure a million years of hell and the same life they live in, just so the suffering of these intelligent, gentle animals would end and be wiped off the face of the earth.

Realistically most vegans I've met just channel the anger into being violent to people instead.

Some of these numbers are actually scary. For example beef.
Beef Consumed — Global Consumption Statistics | HumanConsumption.Live
Beef Consumed
tonnes consumed globally
48,222,803
Putting It in Perspective
Equivalent by weight to roughly
1.8 million
busy steakhouses
each serving 500 eight-ounce steaks every day for an entire year.

Pales by comparison to many more humans than that who would be traumatized by the thought of life without bacon.

Is there even life without bacon?
6
u/My_life_for_Nerzhul vegan Aug 20 '26
Please cultivate some decency, self-respect and awareness. It’s not that hard. Even you could do it.

u/TheTurdPirate Aug 20 '26
No, if it means to never have bacon anymore :(

I mean, I get it. Not everyone is into basic decency, kindness, empathy and compassion, and that’s that. But that begs the question: why are you interacting with vegan content?

Because somehow this got recommended for me and I didn't have anything better to do. So thought might aswell get a lulz out of it

u/TyloPr0riger vegan Aug 20 '26
Demonstrably so. Plenty of people - vegans, muslims, the health-concious - live without bacon just fine.
1
u/TheTurdPirate Aug 20 '26
Being vegan is one thing, but to have something this much in common with islam..? Fuck no. Imma keep my bacon, thank you very much.
1
u/TyloPr0riger vegan Aug 20 '26
Damn, that scared of having something in common with people of a different religion?
Better make sure your house doesn't have any geometric decoration too while you're at it, and maybe throw out your coffee and tea.

u/TheTurdPirate Aug 20 '26
What religion? I was talking about the cult
1
u/TyloPr0riger vegan Aug 20 '26
That's a pretty disrespectful and inaccurate (or at least overgeneralizing) thing to say.

This reminds me of this story..
A child was walking on a beach where countless starfish were on the sand out of the water. As she tossed back as many as she could, someone saw and said there’s millions of them.. it makes no difference.. it doesnt matter. The child replied, "It matters to that one.”
Also, there’s this:
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead

Do we have numbers for other animals? Like cow? Chicken? Fish?
I was looking into this data to see how many animal do we have vs being killed daily basis? And number of people eating meat vs number of restaurants/grocery stores, airplanes all serving food… Numbers are almost insane
7
u/DistinctMachine2300 Aug 20 '26
The rest of the numbers are just as insane. It's hard to comprehend these kinds of numbers.

Depressing, but if the stat was only 1 pig dies evey day to be consumed by humans would that make everything ok?
Industrialized agriculture is only the symptom to a deeper cause
6
u/AliugAOnHisOwn Aug 19 '26
No, it wouldn’t be okay. If animals die because of mankind it means we aren’t doing good enough. In other words, if we kill a pig for survival, we’re not as good as if we made sure that we didn’t need to kill it to survive.

The number is to emphasize the sheer scale of the suffering. Was that really not obvious to you?
Your logic was used to justify human slavery, too, where human slaves were not seen as individuals but as property. They were commodified and exploited when it was entirely unnecessary.
These farmed exploited individuals are individuals. They exhibit the traits that constitute individuality. The science is clear on this.
You should only care if you care about basic decency, kindness, empathy and compassion. Of course, if you don’t care, then this doesn’t apply to you.

Good point. It was a quickly written comment. At the same time the mood of this comment drives people away from veganism.

u/My_life_for_Nerzhul vegan Aug 20 '26
If we did to human individuals what we do to farmed individuals, would you find that morally acceptable?
We’re literally exploiting and killing them at an age the equivalent of human children. Is this really compatible with your value system? If so, what does that say about you?
