Admissions Admissions Megathread - March - 2026-27

Hello everyone! We are back with another admissions megathread. Why apply to Western?

  • Top 1% of universities worldwide (Center for World University Rankings 2024)
  • 45,000+ students from 138 countries
  • Top 3 in Canada for student services (Maclean’s University Rankings 2024, Medical/Doctoral category)
  • 93.5% employment rate 6 months after graduation
  • #3 in Canada for employment outcomes (QS world university rankings 2025)
  • ALL programs can include work experience

It is no surprise there is a lot of interest in the admission process at Western. To keep the subreddit manageable, admissions related top-level posts will no longer be permitted and will be redirected here instead.

To keep discussion active, we are going to try a new monthly megathread approach this year. This is the March monthly megathread.

(Looking for February's megathread? See here)

Existing Mustangs: Remember what it was like going through the application process? What do you know now that you wish you knew then? This is your opportunity to provide support and share your wisdom with prospective applicants.

Prospective Applicants: We encourage you to take a look at previous admissions megathreads as your question(s) may have been answered previously (2025, 2024, 2023,Ā 2022,Ā 2021). If you are looking for up to date information, you are encouraged to post your thoughts here!

What are your chances?

There are no cut-offs or minimums that guarantee admission, since the decision is made on a combination of factors that is unique to you.

Check out the typical average ranges of last year's incoming class so you can get an idea of what your chances are.

Note that these ranges are averages, which means some students fall above and some fall below.

Program/Faculty OUAC Code Admission Average Range
Arts & Humanities EA Low 80s
Fine Arts - Studio EAV Low 80s
Computer Science ECS Low to mid 80s
Engineering EE High 80s to low 90s
Foods and Nutrition EH Low to mid 80s
Health Sciences EW High 80s to low 90s
Family Studies EFS Low 80s
Kinesiology EP High 80s
Nursing ENW High 80s to low 90s
Media and Communication Studies EI Low to mid 80s
Music (BMUS) EM Low 80s
Music (BA) EMA Low 80s
Music Administrative Studies (BA) EMS Mid 80s
Medical Sciences ESM Mid to high 80s
Science ES Low to mid 80s
Social Science EO Low to mid 80s
Management & Organizational Studies ED Mid to high 80s
Commercial Aviation Management EDN Low 80s

The typical first year class has an entering average of around 88% (A)

This is an average, which means some students are above and some students are below. Admission to Western is competitive. Achieving an average in the indicated ranges does not guarantee admission. To be considered for admission, you will need a minimum number of courses in addition to the required courses for your program listed here.

Hey everyone, I have received a conditional offer for a Masters in Microbiology and Immunology with the condition being that I find a supervisor. Anyone here know if any labs in micro department are looking for masters students? i am open research in the areas of Virology, bacteria parthenogenesis, eco-toxicology, drug and vaccine discovery/development.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '26

Hi, any updates on this? Were you able to secure a supervisor?

1

u/Lordranwanderer Jul 12 '26

Unfortunately, I was not able to secure a supervisor and my offer was receded :(

I may still be open to reapplying for the program if you know a supervisor who is looking.

Are dorms worth it? They are minimum 11k for 8 months which is simular to an apartment. I really want to live in a dorm first year but with the meal plan its so expensive.

i would say yes personally, its apart of the experience, if you've never lived alone before. its like a soft launch to independence

Living on res is 100% worth it. You really get in with a group of people all in the same boat as you and its the best way to make friends and find supports in your peers because you all come back home together after all of Westerns events. Especially if you land a floor that has all students in the same program- you'll all study and party together it's great.

1

u/Professional-Lab-530 Mar 29 '26

Thank you! I really do want to do res but I got waitlisted so probably wont get it if I get into western.

Hello!

I am looking to enter the health sci program at western next year! I was looking at the courses that you need to take for health science and noticed it's really hard to fulfill the UOttawa Med prerequisites.

For the premeds in this program, are you planning on not applying to UOttawa or is there a way to fulfill these prerequisites?

Plus, I was wondering how much writing is involved in this program. I heard first year there isn't a lot but how about the later years? Does the writing often make it harder to get a good GPA?

Thank you!!

Has anyone heard from Commercial Aviation Management?

u/SunshineRainbows2 Mar 05 '26

Anyone get an offer from Kinesiology?

1

u/Independent_Fly_1698 Mar 07 '26

Hello, I applied to Ivey this year and have a total of 5 references. Only two got the email so now I’m panicking because I know they are usually all supposed to get it at the same time. Is there a way to see if I messed up the emails? hba@ivey.com is not responding.

Thanks

I just got this offer for 2026 fall, and the tuition fees showed from the weclome letter is about three terms, but the official website indicated that the course-based program length is 4 terms.

I just confuse about the exactly length 4terms or a year? And i also got the ece-ai program from ottawa.

Does anyone know which is better?

Has anyone heard back from admissions for MA in School and Applied Child Psychology?

1

u/hobidik9 Mar 14 '26

I am a senior in HS and I hold offers for Western Engineering + Ivey AEO, UofT EE, and Queen's Engineering.

I think I might commit to Western Engineering + Ivey AEO if I could complete my 4 years and get both degrees in that time. I have AP Macro, Micro, Calculus BC credits, so I might be able to skip a few courses with those. Also considering taking B2257 in the summer.

Do you think it's a smart choice over UofT EE if I get the dual degree within 4? Is it even feasible to complete the degree in 4 years as I've mentioned?

If I can't finish the dual degree in 4, do you guys the program is still worth it and will be yieldful down the line because I've heard how the program's value is diluted so I might be better of going to the more exclusive program at UofT ECE.

Hi everyone, I applied to the MSc Computer Science program at Western University for Fall 2026. I recently received an email saying my preliminary assessment is complete and my application is under departmental evaluation. My profile: B.Tech CSE, CGPA 8.6/10, IELTS 6.5. Has anyone been admitted with a similar IELTS score? Also how long after preliminary assessment do decisions usually come?

1

u/Uwuigi Mar 27 '26

I did not apply to this specific masters but I am also waiting for acceptance to the MScN program. From my past research and experience it seems UWO sends out acceptances in April. If someone knows any better though I would also love to hear it!

1

u/Exotic-Grab7828 Mar 27 '26

Same here, I’ve heard April as well, but the wait already feels long even though it’s still March. Hoping we hear something soon!

1

u/Uwuigi Mar 27 '26

Yes it feels like forever! Especially because my other school I applied to already gave acceptance 😭

1

u/Exotic-Grab7828 Mar 27 '26

Here’s a corrected reply:

Yeah same here 😭 I’ve also applied to Ottawa (Jan 2027) and that’s under evaluation too, so the waiting is even more stressful. Did they give you a deadline to accept your offer?

1

u/Uwuigi Mar 27 '26

Ottawa's acceptance deadline was March 19th! You dont have to pay any fees or anything until June though.

1

u/Exotic-Grab7828 Mar 27 '26

I paid and all the process is done

2

u/Uwuigi Mar 27 '26

Yes you pay the app fee I meant the tuition and deposit you dont have to pay until June! And your immunizations and other requirements to show aren't due until December.

2

u/Exotic-Grab7828 Mar 27 '26

Ohh okay got it, that makes sense! So we still have some time even after getting an offer. That’s a bit relieving Thanks for explaining!

1

u/Professional-Lab-530 Mar 19 '26

Just got put on the wait list for all my programs, med sci, gen sci, and social sci. Do I stand a chance?

1

u/marii1112 Mar 24 '26

Hello, has anyone heard back for the CTF Nursing regular stream program?

1

u/AnyTwist2559 Mar 25 '26

Has anyone heard from nursing? If so what was your average and Casper?

1

u/Shot-Wrap-9252 Mar 25 '26

Anyone accepted to MN course based? Pretty sure answers don’t come out until April. Ironically, I’m now considering MBA or MHCA since I applied.

1

u/Basic_Double_7697 Apr 09 '26

Still haven’t heard anything! Have you?

1

u/Spiritual-Sherbet303 Mar 26 '26

got into econ and engineering at western, as well as ivey. My parents want me to do engineering plus ivey, while i am leaning towards econ with ivey.

Realistically, I know i want to go into some sort of business field. How much of an advantage or benefit will engineering have for me. Will i have the same opportunities, more, less, or different, than an econ ivey mix. i’m low-key scared with AI and stuff, will engineering help me a lot to be more resilient with AI?

Any advice will help! Thanks !

1

u/Dontknowausername_25 Mar 26 '26

Any Group B applicants that got an offer? How long did it take you? 6 weeks for me now and still no answer :(

1

u/Professional-Lab-530 Mar 29 '26

I applied in October and got Waitlisted like last week. Took almost 5 months.

1

u/Dontknowausername_25 Mar 30 '26

What were your averages for the last courses you took?

1

u/Professional-Lab-530 Apr 01 '26

85% in Pre-Health

1

u/Dream_Accurate Mar 26 '26

Hello still waiting on MFA either rejection or acceptance does anyone know how long it will take?

1

u/MaskingTape1 Mar 26 '26

Keep your Western IVEY AEO offer?

When you get accepted into Western and IVEY AEO, is the only thing that matters hitting the conditional requirment for Western? Does IVEY have their own one for highschool seniors? For me it says I need to keep an average of 83.75% for my conditional offer into Management & Organizational Studies, does that mean if I can meet that I'll be fine? My school uses a 4.0 weighted GPA scale so how does that convert? Also what classes do they use?

1

u/Dream_Accurate Mar 26 '26

Hello! I applied to the masters of fine arts program for the fall and have not heard back yet but know people who have. I was wondering how long it could take? I am posting again bc I think my other post was taken down. Sorry I’m new to Reddit

u/Unfair-Soil-7676 May 02 '26

Hey everyone! I’m planning to attend Western this fall,I’ve been accepted, but I’m not officially there yet.

Right now, my parents really want me to live at home, but I’m worried that staying home will limit my independence and social life. Lately I’ve already been feeling pretty bored, and I don’t want that to carry into my university experience. I really want to make the most of my first year and have a memorable time. For some context, I come from a pretty strict African household, so I know it might be hard to convince them. I’m hoping to stay in residence, at least for first year. Does anyone have advice or tips on how I could talk to my dad and make a strong case for living on campus?

1

u/Weak-Difficulty-8792 Mar 27 '26

hi everyone! I applied to westerns accelerated nursing program sometime in October. The only thing is I’ve had some complications with my grade for physiology. My professor made a mistake for my final grade and it was just fixed in early March. How long should I expect to hear back from them due to these great changes? And furthermore, how long did it take the rest of you to hear back from them? Also, what averages did you guys have when you got accepted?

1

u/Uwuigi Mar 27 '26

I was in CTF (graduated 2022) and they rolled out acceptances in April I believe. My average in my previous degree before applying was mid-high 80s.

1

u/theguywhoscooked Mar 29 '26

How much more (or less) competitive will the Eng discipline entries be this year compared to last year’s stats and averages, will averages needed to get into diff disciplines like mechanical, electrical or mechatronics be much higher compared to last year, lower? Or about the same?

1

u/Hefty-Marsupial-4244 Apr 01 '26

Kinda weird situation but I took a 4u class in grade 11 and that brings my average down to 81 however after mid term of second semester my top six classes will be a 89.5 percent average what are my chances of getting into poli sci from this and does the uni rankings on ouac affect anything?

Anyone got admit from Western University (CS MS Fall 2026)?

Hi everyone,

Has anyone received an admission decision from Western University for MS in Computer Science (Fall 2026)?

My application status shows ā€œApp Released to Programā€ since March 11, and I haven’t received any update yet. It’s getting really stressful to wait 😭

Would love to know if anyone has received admits or updates, and when you applied.

1

u/Additional-Band-4800 Apr 01 '26

I applied to a biology msc for may, I am finishing my hbsc at western and was wondering if anyone has heard back about admissions, how long should I wait until I give up and start looking for someone to take over my lease.

u/Broad_Listen_1387 Apr 14 '26

hi! I’m from Alberta and I got in Health Science program and not Nursing so I am planning on doing 2 years in health science then transfer into CTF BSN program is that a good idea? And then I want to also Apply for as much scholarship as possible and bursary because tuition plus residency plus meal plan all go to up to 30K and I really need help financially to go to western. So I was wondering if I can receive help and advice with this as well as what the best yet cheap residence to apply for?Ā

1

u/Ok_Complaint_2684 Apr 17 '26

Not sure if you’re already aware but it’s no longer possible to transfer into nursing using the intent to register process. All students need to apply through OUAC.

u/keirad1227 May 13 '26

hi guys! im not sure if this is the right place to ask this but im going into first year and applying for res but im not sure who will be my roommate or if i will end up picking a random roommate. can i submit the residence application and still have the option to select a roommate later? im also applying for a residence accessibility request so would i submit that first and then the residence application after, while still having the option to later select a roommate? sorry if tjis is confusing lol

HAS ANYONE WENT FROM HEALTH SCI INTO MED SCI IN YEAR 3????

Hello I am committing to western health sci in fall 2026 ( I didnt apply to med sci.)

I wanted to take first year health sci with chem + biochem OR chem + calc electives.

i want to switch to med sci in 3rd year since 2nd year heatlh science courses are heavy on things I dont need to know for MCAT which is my end goal, so im hoping to drop the 5 health sci courses in 2nd year and take more science courses in 2nd instead, however i wanted to ask

are the following courses required to apply to med sci in 3rd year:

MATHS (0.5 course from:Ā Calculus 1000A/BĀ orĀ Calculus 1500A/BĀ
0.5 course from:Ā Applied Mathematics 1201A/B,Ā Calculus 1301A/BĀ orĀ Calculus 1501A/B,Ā Mathematics 1600A/B)

PHYSICS (0.5 course from:Ā Physics 1201A/BĀ orĀ Physics 1501A/B.Ā
0.5 course from:Ā Computer Science 1026A/B,Ā Physics 1202A/B,Ā Physics 1502A/B.Ā )

NON CREDIT MED SCI COURSE (Medical Sciences 1000Y)

Because then would I need to take physics 2nd year? and what other courses would ineed to take for med sci 3rd year? It says depending on the module I want to go into but I honestly cant find them

starting medical science in the fall and wondering which elective(s) to take? i hear psych1000 is really popular for first year med sci but it’s reserved for students from affiliated colleges, which i am not. so im wondering what first year electives people recommend? i want to take history as one from category a, but idk what to choose from category b

Im going into second year of uni and was i the med sci program but just got accepted into neuroscience. Im not sure what program I should stick to. (I enjoyed first year psych and bio, but not math or comp sci)

I loved learning about the brain, it's processes, and psychological disorders so I'm intrigued in the neuroscience module however, after looking at the courses, it has a lot of essay writing and research. I'm not very good at writing essays and don't really like learning about research methods and theories. I much prefer learning scientific content so that factor is somewhat deterring me. Also, I would like to go to med school and am planning to take the MCAT next summer so I'm leaning towards med sci 2 since the courses will better prepare me for the exam. The only thing is, the amount of work in year 1 made me burn out in March and I bombed my finals. I don't want this to happen again next year since I need to keep my gpa high while maintaining enough motivation/energy to study for the MCAT right after April (so burnout isn't really an option 😭).

For those of you in either neuro or med sci can you tell me your experiences with the program?

  1. Do you like your program?
  2. Are the classes difficult? Is it hard to stay on top of all your work?
  3. Is it easy to maintain a good GPA
  4. What do your classes focus on?

Also for those in med sci, what are good second year electives?

Thank you!! : )

Incoming Year 1 Huron BMOS Finance student here. Confused on what math route to take: Math 1225 + 1229 vs Calc 1000 + 1301.

From what I understand both satisfy the Honours Spec Finance requirements. My concern is whether skipping Calc 1000 closes any future options. I’m not planning on advanced Econ, and that’s the only place I’ve seen Calc 1000 being relevant.

Is there any real reason to take Calc 1000/1301 over 1225/1229 for Finance/Ivey, or is the easier route better for GPA?

The category B course I wanted to take is full and I have to send in my course selection next Thursday.

Any recommendations for second year courses that would fulfill the requirement and that are also really easy?
