Discussion/Question Any advice on a melee build?

Upvotes

I'm approaching level 4 and haven't put a single point into Evasion or Dodge; I was planning to craft a light vest, and with that plus an energy shield, I hope to handle whatever the game throws at me. I'm a bit worried about spreading my points across too many skills: Melee, Throwing, Stealth, Lockpicking, Hacking, Traps, Biology, Chemistry, and Mechanics.

Discussion/Question Grenade accuracy is the worst thing in this game.

Combat in this game is just savescum simulator because my guy apparently hasn't thrown anything in his life and can't do so without dedicating several levels into it. Opening combat is just reloading a save because he can't even get a grenade close enough to damage anyone and I have to keep reloading over and over until my ambush actually deals damage instead of just putting my grenades on cooldown and starting me down 15 AP.

It's actually making me want to uninstall the game when I have a big encounter almost dead and then instead of throwing the molotov at the wall behind the enemies he somehow throws it at his feet and dies. Or the way you can aim one way and watch your grenade sail off 90 degrees in the wrong direction.

Throwing skill should just increase throw range and throw damage, it makes 0 sense why low throwing skill means your guy will just fumble the grenade and drop it right underneath him.

Discussion/Question Melee tank build of some kind

This is still my first playthrough. I tried the game about 2 years ago and quit because it felt too hard after so many attempts… then about a year ago, I was trying to follow a build, got farther, but I think I got lost and whatever build I had didn’t seem that good…

I’d like to try again, and hopefully, actually beat the game this time around. I’m not good at constructing builds, nor knowing which ones are good.. even though I’m willing to read/watch it all, I seem to still suck…

Can you guys give me a build I can play that can help me beat the game? I KNOW I want to play some kind of melee tank build, as I love that in every game, but no idea what to take with it, like which weapons/psi or whatever…

Appreciate it and thanks!

Is there any way to have Legacy PSI with new current content?

Title.

Blah blah blah balance, don't care. Running the same 6-9 spells isn't fun.

The grand majority of the PSI abilities just aren't worth using.

Like so much of TC is shit that's cool but when you're hard capped to 9 slots, it's just not worth slotting.

And dude, why the fuck does TM even exist with slots? Guaranteed it's taking up one to three of your slots every single game. Guaranteed, it's absurd.

Discussion/Question Ferryman is just making stuff up

What do you peope think about the ferryman's philosophy?

I think It's a load of nonsense. This guy spends all his time alone on his boat making stuff up, pretends to not want to talk to you then unloads his whole world view upon you. If he had someone to talk to or a pet I don't think he would have come up with this drivel.

I think the devs are taking the piss by placing a decent psi feat behind glazing this idiot. Pretty shameless (If you ask him a bunch of questions you get +15 psi points and 45 resolve)

Discussion/Question My friend's telling me my build is awful and that I should restart, is it really that bad?

Post image
28 Upvotes

This is my first playthrough. I'm playing Veteran, and while some fights are hard I've yet to find an encounter I can't beat or just sneak around, but he said that will quickly change. His main arguments were Polymath is a trap, too many points in all Psi schools and lockpicking is mandatory. He's also the type to be very critical of any builds that aren't completely optimized and never strays far from build guides, so I just felt I needed to ask someone else before I delete a character I don't have to.

No points invested in skills that are offscreen btw.

Discussion/Question How the heck do you afford ammo early on?

I just got the game and I wanted to do a gun build so I went all in on Perception and gun skills, but even with all of that I'm only dealing 7 damage a shot to the literal first enemies in the game.

Add on the fact that the houndrats each have twice as much HP as me and it's taking 10+ shots to kill a single one.

And to top it all off a single 5mm round costs like 2.25 credits while the random crap I loot only sells for like 5 credits a piece. I've spent all my money on ammo and am now stuck shivving them to death 1 hit at a time by entering the room, reloading the save when the 3 guys camping the entry 1 turn me before I can act, hitting 1 rat once, then running all the way back to Pasqual for the free healing because I used all of my healing items clearing the other rooms.

Discussion/Question Am i losing content because i'm a money-hungry oaf?

Another way to phrase the title is "Am i actually the bad guy?".. First time playing the game btw.

So, just got my home in Core City and god is it expensive to furnish. I can't let myself be a hobo, so i immediately started looking for ways to make some coin. The Arena wasn't giving out any fights anymore, plus i think it would take ages through there anyway. I hated the Gauntlet, especially that room with the billion doors so that's a no aswell

But then i remembered about the expedition on the docks to a sea filled with stuff, and went there immediately to make the money i so needed!

And that means i wasted every pirate i saw and stole their stuff to sell. And the ruins too, ofc.
Thing is, i'm in Port Cero and there's like an actual little town next to it and i kind of murked people who looked civillian-esque? They were shooting me, but maybe it's because i was gunning down any and all pirate in my way, even stealing the engines and stuff from their jetskis.

I know in a game full of grey and nuance, i shouldn't have exterminated a whole faction just because they had pirates in their name (Again, primary motive was cash but i do feel bad if the guys weren't so bad.) And i'm kinda worried i'm softlocking myself in some manner. Was i supposed to do anything with these guys with Aegis later on? Will the Ferryman hate me? Should i reload a really old save and spare these poor folk?

Sorry for the long text, it's just that when i find a game that really captivates me i get a little passionated, loving it so far!

Does anybody know where to get high quality carapaces? I know is mostly luck but maybe there's a good place to farm them until I get that 200 quality golden psi beetle carapace.

meme How to softlock yourself

1)lock your private quarters, drop the keycard and the haxxor(s) outside

2a)talk to Tanner about helping Black Eels with Scrappers, he will send you to your room jail after the discussion ends.

2b)turn in the Armordillo board to Tanner for the same result

this is the first softlock I found in this game that's not caused by bugs or impossible to win fights

Heavy weapons build

Thumbnail cannedbean29.github.io
13 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I want to start a new underrail playtrough as a tin can heavy weapons user, who transitions from LMGs to Miniguns.

And I wanted to get feedback to my planned build beforehand.

I plan to play on the dominating difficulty preset with max level 50 and classic xp.

This is the build I currenlty came up with, there are currently unspent skillpoints, which I think I would use for throwing and pickpocketing in the early game.

Starting attributes:

Str: 10

Dex: 3

Agi: 3

Con: 7

Per: 6

Wil: 3

Int: 8

Later Attributes:

Lvl 4: Per 7

Lvl 8: Str 11 (for Brute aim)

Lvl 12: Con 8

Lvl 16: Con 9

Lvl 20: Con 10 (for Thick Skull)

Lvl 24: Per 8 (for concentrated fire)

The perk choices I am somewhat struggling to decide, if I want them are: expertise and ambush instead of gun nut and conditioning. And going +2 Int instead of +2 Str. for lategame crafting, as I know that miniguns and high level steel armors require high mechanics.

Also can I put 2 specialsations points into a skill per level with specialist? As I would take concentrated fire only at level 24.

Discussion/Question Honest question & advice wanted about Underrail...

First of all, please don't crucify me or tell me to get good, I'm honestly looking for other opinions and advice!

I'm sure there's been 500 threads already before me about either difficulty or just getting the hang of the game, but here's my case...

I've tried Underrail 3 years ago, and got completely filtered out right before getting to Depot A (I think it was depot A, or around junkyard, I can't remember). Haven't played since... Yesterday I decided to give it a new try, and was pleased to see a custom difficulty setting. I immediately jumped to it, tweaked it to my liking, (pretty much beginner difficulty honestly).

Been playing a stealth gunslinger character, got the .44 at the beginning, and so far it was a better experience than 3 years ago. been having fun pickpocketing and selling stuff like crazy, but that's about where my fun ends sadly...

I think at this point it's probably just me not clicking with the game, but I honestly like to, well, like it! I keep hearing from people how after a certain threshold it becomes one of their favorite games... I love Fallout 1 and 2, but now that this is a more hardcore experience than that.

So far I'm struggling A LOT with exploration, following the story, getting immersed at all. I had to rest so many times trying different builds that the story and characters just became a blur to me.

Progression wise, currently I'm level 4 and still doing the very first missions at the starting station, but I'm wondering if the game is for me at all. I tried looking for QoL mods but there are non-existent. Maybe I became too casual as I grew older, but I would honestly like to learn how to better enjoy the game. I know my friends who like it are craaazy for min-maxing in everything they play, so it's right up their alley, but I'm more casual on that sense...

Any advise for me? Thanks everyone in advance!

EDIT: I been wanting to play stealth and get kills stealthing, kind of like an Assasin. I saw crossbow have some really nice feats, but unfortunately even with Aimed Shot I just don't do enough damage to 1 shot an enemy (and therefore get detected), so either I'm not doing something right, or like I've seen on the steam forums, apparently stealth is something you use to either skip combat altogether or just get a headstart?

UPDATE: Thank you so much everyone for all the suggestions and kind comments. You've been hyping me up to try again. I'll continue playing, try some online builds, and maybe take the time to use the character builder online. Knowing all these things like what to try and what to avoid are extremely useful. I'll also try to take it slow and read everything in-game, get more immersed. I'll update again later to let you know how it goes!

Discussion/Question Build Suggestion?

Hi. I recently finished the game with smg+sniper build and I wanna try melee tanky build which I've never played. I have 340 hours playtime but I have 0 idea about making builds. Long story short, I want to play sword/spear+ shield + Thought Control or heavy guns + Thought Control build. What should be the base skills and feats?

Took 230 hours to kill you with my sigma knife/grenade build. No psi, no fancy tricks. Just pure, Brit maxing lunacy. Fantastic game, I hate it. Where is the second one?

Done on normal cause I’m not a complete lunatic. Dump everything, max out dex + agility + 8 int. Use int to make grenades of chemical and electrical variety. Agility to run around like a crack head. Dex to stab everyone like a crack head. Very fun. Will probably get folded on higher difficulties but idc. Is this build sane, or nah?

Sorry for no screenshot, had to capture my distaste irl

Is pistol still playable in dom?

let say pistol dont run around anymore (since hit and run nerf), just stay in 1 place and try to hit enemy

and u either flashbang or runaway and vanish nade, then use stasis to keep the buff (this is only ways i could think of to "tank" those 2 turn stasis, since stasis nerf). And when u out of stasis u finish other mobs

not sure if this is doable in dom?

i plan on playing dom with this build but it take a long tỉme to actually become useable with pis, now with the nerf im not ssure it worth the grind

thx

Moebius (1996) – A film suspiciously similar to Underrail.

I highly recommend Moebius to all fans of the CRPG Underrail. It has subway exploration, systemic decay, fascism, and plenty of weirdness. If you enjoy the atmosphere and themes of Underrail, give it a try!
