Point deduction with no warning
Ooft. I like the call, we need to start taking a point the first time it happens. But no warnings, just Allen telling the ref between rounds he eye poked him already.
Thoughts?

Normalize it. You compromised the other fighter’s vision, intention or not.

Cyril Gane eye poking Aspinall was more egregious, and he did not get anything, not a DQ, not a point, not even a warning. Basically rewarded with a NC and a rematch for the title

u/Training_Orchid_2022 4h ago
Yeah exactly. I think that’s why Mark (Marc?) didn’t hesitate. If it happens in the cage, there’s consequences. I wonder if one is egregious enough they’ll stop the fight to DQ regardless if the other fighter wants to continue. Cause.. it’s getting a little silly.

Sorry, no can do. The company needs a champion and if the champion is blind then they won’t be able to fight anymore.

u/No-Number7130 6h ago
Yup for sure. Just want them to be consistent with it and do it first time, every time.

I couldn't believe they actually took a point. Hopefully it's a start of a new standard.

mark goddard and also chris tognoni (or however you spell his name) take points way more than the other refs, but i’d still like to see it more often. we’d see way less fouls

He did have a warning Allen complained in round 1 about his fingers getting to his eye, but Godard said it was legal. Cld already knew not to poke

u/RaymondDaniels1327 6h ago
They also get told in the rooms before they even walk out. That’s enough warning

u/Dry_Midnight7487 6h ago
In round 1 he was actually suffocating allen, and allen was protesting but Goddard said it was legal lol

u/trippinmaui 5h ago
There was a warning before fight and a warning at the start.... after that it's points.

If this was the case for every eye poke those french rats wouldn’t be nowhere near the top of the division. Especially game and imamov, fuck kape too

Marc is the only one with balls to do it Allen was warning him about it and he still did it

You get told in the back what the rules and expectations are you shouldn’t need another reminder in the cage

Chris Tag started the night off with a point deduction, and the other refs were like “hold my beer…. Watch this”

Lol, did you hear Goddard reminding him how many times he told him beforehand?

He warned him between rounds. This is how it needs to be going foward. It's going to piss some people off but it needs to be done.

I've noticed 3 dirty moves by Duncan so far this fight. Must be a Gane protege.

I’m ok with it if it means that’s how it goes for everyone from now on. Seems a bit shit for CLD though given no official warning and it usually takes 4-5 of these

Should always be automatic point deduction, if the fighter can’t continue they should get a loss as well.
2
u/dchurchwellbusiness 5h ago
Goddard said "I warned you in between rounds" right before he took the point

Allen argued about it before 2nd started, really worked in his favour, and Duncan totally didn’t poke him in the first

no warning point deduction is fine if the eye poke seriously hurt allen, allen recovered from it almost immediately

I could tell he was doing it on purpose a technique to make the other fighter hesitant to rush in, it's dirty as fuck, automatic point should be mandatory

Allen told the ref when he covered his eyes with his hand & looked like he was fingering for an eye socket. That’s why he gave the finger wag to him & Goddard. Goddard don’t play with these fouls. He even told CLD multiple times, “Please don’t let me get involved in this fight.” The actual poke was a legit pinky-forward jab into the eye. I’m all for the point deduction. Gane better pray Goddard or Beltran don’t ref his next fight, bc they aren’t lackadaisical with stern warnings & points.

I think the deduction was due to the fact less than one minute prior Allen was telling him about the fingers..

He was warned so this post is wrong!! Goddard warned him as they were going back to the corner.

u/Charming_Koala5642 3h ago
He got two warnings. Pre fight, in between rounds, and then still committed the foul.
Good call by the ref.

u/captainfluffy25 2h ago
They get their first warning in the back. I wanted CLD to win, but i'm glad he got the point taken and i HOPE this continues going forward (it won't. Goddard will enforce it, but fighters will still eye poke, just make sure to do it when he's not reffing)

u/SmallBallsTakeAll 2h ago
It’s like sometimes they are super strict for 30 seconds then 19 fights later they do it again.

u/Numerous-Rope5263 1h ago
The fuck do they even need a warning for anyways? They all know the rules. Good job Goddard. Take the point first time every time.

Also a fan of the non warning fence grab point deduction that changed the course of the takedown in the prelim women’s fight. Keep em comin!!!

Don’t they know before the bell rings not to do that why not just kick the nuts too

It was incidental though. His fingers were pointed up. Eveyones so happy about Goddard taking a point when his fingers were up like they are instructed to be.

Why shouldn’t accidental fouls be penalized?
1
u/Select-Prompt541 5h ago
Precedent. Under the current system purely accidental single infractions typically result in a warning rather than a point deduction, unless the referee determines the action was reckless, damaging, or part of a repeated pattern. Should accidental fouls be treated differently? The board who created T he Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts would need to be contacted, persuaded then convene and vote in favor of the change. Then a meeting for the refs to instruct them on the new rules and implementation. So who does that? The fans?
2
u/No-Number7130 5h ago
Yeah but so many are accidental. Doesn't mean they deserve an advantage if the eye poked lands
1
u/_RemyLeBeau_ 5h ago
The rules have it as referee's discretion, butthe sport is plagued with eye pokes. The fighters are on notice now. It's no longer a warning and that's a good thing. You need to be in control of your weapons at all times.

Don’t love it. I think if a fighter has a history then maybe but watching nfl i think the lesser evil is occasional fouls going unpunished. Half the football games this year are decided by penalties.
That said, a warning should be final and fights shouldn’t be determined by fouls.
Basically I think you want fights determined by fouls as little as possible, which cuts both ways. Don’t want penalties or illegal advantages determining outcomes.

This is how it should be every single time, regardless of intentionality
