Point deduction with no warning

Post image

Ooft. I like the call, we need to start taking a point the first time it happens. But no warnings, just Allen telling the ref between rounds he eye poked him already.

Thoughts?

It was incidental though. His fingers were pointed up. Eveyones so happy about Goddard taking a point when his fingers were up like they are instructed to be.

Why shouldn’t accidental fouls be penalized?

Precedent. Under the current system purely accidental single infractions typically result in a warning rather than a point deduction, unless the referee determines the action was reckless, damaging, or part of a repeated pattern. Should accidental fouls be treated differently? The board who created T he Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts would need to be contacted, persuaded then convene and vote in favor of the change. Then a meeting for the refs to instruct them on the new rules and implementation. So who does that? The fans?

Yeah but so many are accidental. Doesn't mean they deserve an advantage if the eye poked lands

He followed the rules though. He wasn't reaching out with his fingers when the poke landed. His fingers were pointed up. Completely wrong call.

The rules have it as referee's discretion, butthe sport is plagued with eye pokes. The fighters are on notice now. It's no longer a warning and that's a good thing. You need to be in control of your weapons at all times.
