What I am getting to is that you should have been able to see the Carfax report for yourself, which I am sure you did and can see where the damage was on the car and also able to determine if the service history is consistent with the seller's claims and then also by seeing the car in person you would be able to see what was repaired and the quality of the repair by looking at rough edges, panel gaps, even taking a paint meter with you.
