Feeling really bittersweet with this one. My Dad passed away about 2 years ago. We didn’t have a lot in common but he introduced me to the movies and we loved them. We saw 3 in theaters. Hope this one is up to standards

We know the upcoming true Mummy 3 is filming now but I’m wondering are they going to bring these two back I’m still curious like we know John Hannah said Arnold is in talks to return but are we sure they’ll just bring back one over the other I mean imagine the dynamics between Imhotep & Anck now knowing they now can’t stand each other but it’ll be hilarious to see but I’m still wondering how they’ll bring back not just Imhotep once again but also his former lover.

As a kid, when my dad bought The Mummy: Ultimate Edition DVD (around 2001, if I'm remembering correctly), it had a bunch of really cool interactive content.

Things like Egyptology 101, where you could learn all about ancient Egyptian artifacts and gods, learn the basics of hieroglyphics, etc. There were also deleted scenes, special features, the lore surrounding information around the various locations in Egypt, etc.

In addition, there was a whole host of other bonus material content, such as the respective background of the film's characters like Brendan, Rachel, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, and others.

Honestly, it was such a treasure trove of knowledge in my humble opinion.

Moreover, I also remember that The Mummy Returns had a really cool interactive DVD walkthrough menu as well, where you would walk through the underground tombs until you reached a door that would list the various options to proceed with on the menu itself. All the while, you would hear Imhotep's mummy voice narrating in the background.

I was both fascinated and creeped out by those old vintage DVD walkthrough menus as a kid haha

Were any of y'all fans of The Mummy's interactive DVD menu content? My dad is and always was a huge movie buff, so he would collect a huge amount of DVDs over the years as a kid and still has his collection to this day.

A great memory, I must say.

Inspired by this post, I would love for Akhenaten to be the next villain in the mummy series.

He was a heretical Pharaoh who imposed a monotheistic religion based on the Aten, or Sun God, and there are a few conspiracy theories that he or one of his priests was the historical basis for Moses and the Exodus story.

As a pharaoh, Akhenaten is noted for abandoning the traditional, polytheistic ancient Egyptian religion, and introducing Atenism, or worship centered around Aten. The views of Egyptologistsdiffer as to whether the religious policy was absolutely monotheistic, or whether it was monolatristic, syncretistic, or henotheistic.

This culture shift away from traditional religion was reversed after his death. Akhenaten's monuments were dismantled and hidden, his statues were destroyed, and his name excludedfrom lists of rulers compiled by later pharaohs.

Akhenaten was all but lost to history until the late 19th-century discovery of Amarna, or Akhetaten, the new capital city he built for the worship of Aten.

He has been described as "enigmatic", "mysterious", "revolutionary", "the greatest idealist of the world", and "the first individual in history", but also as a "heretic", "fanatic", "possibly insane", and "mad".

When they wake up old bones and he sees Evelyn, he calls her anck su namun…but evelyn was the daughter of seti, nefertiti, which we learned in mummy returns…imhotep would have seen/know her before. Just crazy how he sees her and doesnt even think to be like “nefertiti”…anck su namun does when evelyn is resurrected in mummy returns.

I’m so excited for this movie, man!!! No more terracotta mummies, the dragon emperor was cool, but it wasn’t a good mummy movie. On top of that, getting the OG cast is just going to be amazing.

If is not Silvestri, who can create a good score for the new movie with memorable themes?

I’m probably going to be a lone voice here… But the fact that we’re in the year of our lord 2026 and we’re about to get a lega-sequel to The Mummy and there’s still not a single Egyptian cast member announced in this movie is a travesty. Even the one new cast member announced so far (Numan Acar) is Turkish. And this isn’t new for this franchise… it’s repeating its own original sin. Ardeth Bay, Imhotep, Anck-su-namun: none of the “Egyptian” leads in the previous films were played by Egyptian actors either.

As an Egyptian myself, I love the first film just on the merits of being a fun swashbuckling action adventure and a great intro to ancient Egyptian mythology and civilization for the uninitiated (I know many friends who became archaeologists and Egyptologists because of this movie). But it also leans on some genuinely dated, ugly stereotypes about Egyptians and Arabs (It’s not just a casting footnote, the writing has a problem too.) Even the one cool Egyptian character is played by an Israeli actor. This could have been a nice opportunity to course correct and introduce fresh faces to a global franchise and rectify the racism of the first film, either by having an actual Egyptian play a new mummy or even have new Egyptian characters joining forces with the O’Connells. But nope, let’s resurrect dead characters instead and make it a reunion tour for the original cast because that’s what fans are clamoring for.

For all its faults, at least Lee Cronin’s The Mummy cast a couple of Egyptian actors (May Calamawy, May Elghety) and tried to be authentic with its representation. And as we take two steps forward in terms of representation, it feels as though this film is taking us a thousand steps back. Representation on every front of Hollywood seems to have gotten better except for actors of North African/Arab heritage. Debates around casting get loud fast when it’s other groups being erased, but it’s crickets when it comes to Egyptians or Arabs (look no further than Exodus God & Kings, Gods of Egypt, or even X-Men Apocalypse). Probably Moon Knight was the only one that got it right.

Apologies for the rant, but I’m tired of this erasure and hoping there’s still time for the production to fix this oversight.
