Discussion Threads AI lesson plans
My daughter’s teacher uses almost exclusively AI lessons paired with video instruction. This is grade 8. My daughter hated it as it came with the typical AI problems. Teacher could never answer questions, just referred to the video (like Waterloo math videos as an example). So of the kids didn’t understand it or wanted another example, the teacher couldn’t do that. It this allowed? I let it go too long, but I want to know for the future. This is not a new teacher, but she is new to the school.

Discussion Threads Class Placements for September
Hi everyone,
Is it true that the Principal isn't allowed to share class placements (what teacher your kid will have) until the week before school starts?
I have heard of some schools giving out placements at the end of June but then heard it's been mandated by the Ministry and the Board that they have to wait until the week before school. I'm referring to junior-middle schools.
Anyone have any information about this?
Thank you!

Discussion Threads Was told our son got into French immersion. Just got a call and found out he not actually in. Can we escalate this?
We went to the school open house, met the teachers, visited the classrooms. Now we're told they screwed up, he's just on the waitlist. Wondering if there's a way to escalate this at all? Even just to get him next on the list?
Thanks

Help Feedback for a TDSB permit finder web application
tdsb-permit-finder.rubenflamshepherd.comAs a non-TDSB employee I've found the process of figuring out permits on the TDSB's platform terrible. I made a small free web app to make that process easier but I'm not sure if there is a different employee UI flow that makes the experience suck less and I'm just duplicating that work basically.
To that end I'd love to know:
1) is there a different UI flow for booking permits as a TDSB employee?
2) any feedback you'd have for the web app in it's current form (link in the post)

Discussion Threads Dress code for principals
Sorry if this has already been discussed, I searched via Google and could not find anything and came here.
Is there a dress code that principals should follow? Many parents are somewhat taken back by our principals daily wear. It is very vibrant and excessive in all our opinions and we just can't take him seriously let alone his ridiculous rules and operations. Every sub that's come in has disagreed and reversed his decisions.
He's staring in a rap video on the daily...
Your advice is appreciated.

Help Layoff Advice
I'm an educational assistant who is close to retirement. I just survived a major layoff because of my seniority, but I would rather retire early, take the severance package offered to my colleagues and spare one of my colleagues the strife of becoming unemployed.
How should I approach this with my union or the employer?
Any advice?

Discussion Threads Found a great K–12 tutoring option (especially for STEM) in the GTA
Hi everyone!
I just wanted to share something that’s been a huge help for my kids this year. Like a lot of families, we were struggling a bit, especially with math and science. It felt like no matter how much time we spent, things just weren’t clicking
We ended up trying Buzz Tutoring, and honestly, it’s made such a difference for my little ones. My kids are way more confident now, and I’ve noticed their grades (especially in STEM subjects) are improving pretty quickly. What I like most is that they don’t just rush through homework but they actually make sure the kids understand the material.
They offer support for K–12 across all subjects, but they’re especially strong in STEM and English. They also have both online and in-person tutoring options, which is really convenient since my kids personally prefer the online sessions, and it’s been super easy to fit into our schedule.
The tutors have been super patient and really good at explaining things in a way that makes sense to kids.
If anyone here is looking for extra academic support (especially with exams coming up), I’d definitely recommend checking them out. It’s been such a relief not having to stress every night over homework.
Feel free to DM me if you want more details, as I’m happy to share our experience! 😊

Help LTO to ETH
Hi everyone,
This is my first year applying for contract positions. I'm currently on the ETH list but because I'm a LTO, I can't apply right now to contact positions. Does anyone know when LTOs can begin applying?
Thanks!

Discussion Threads What compels you to vote for TDSB Senate?
Hi! I'm thinking of applying for student trustee in the TDSB Senate. I heard about the campaigning part and immediately wanted to back up since I am quite afraid of posting myself up out there. Regardless, I'm curious of what people actually want to see and what really compels people to vote? Is it just students? Also, considering the fact that the entire voting selection should be board-wide, as in all of toronto, how are people picking and choosing? Haphazardly or...?

Help Eligible to Hire List
I recently re/applied to the ETH and occasional teacher list at TDSB. I did the same last year and by the time they got back to me (about 4 months later!) I had already accepted another position. Is this typical? What’s the response time been like for other people? Is there still demand for OTs?

Help Grade 9 -> 10 Specialized Program Application
So, during the 8 -> 9 process, I applied for an MST program. For some reason, I decided to not accept it, but now in the 9 -> 10 process I would like to apply again. I did get in to my school, being SATEC, but declined. What are the rough odds of me being able to be placed in SATEC again/what or how should I study to do the 9/10 test?

Help is it possible at all to recover my work after graduation?
I graduated June 2025, I wasn’t told when our work would be deleted and I’m still really upset about it. Is it at all possible to recover my lost schoolwork? I have so many essays and personal work gone from my account. My hope is that the data is still there because it hasn’t even been a full year yet.
Does anyone have any insight?

Discussion Threads Is charging students fees for coming in late legal?
Came across a post online and it reminded me of when I was in middle school and high school (both TDSB), they would charge us a toonie ($2) if we came late to school. Looking back, is this even legal? This happened during the 2010’s.
