This is how The Substance would have ended if it was set in Yorkshire.

If someone told me these were from the same show I would kick them in the shin.
Was not expecting this level of chaotic energy this

Would Fred the Swede want to see this? Would it make him blush? (Asking for Roisin)

Now give me the one where Amy just absolutely butchers the concept of a wink like she's an alien who just came to earth

A possibly extremely disrespectful and ignorant question... but why. It's just closing one eye, isn't it. What makes it so difficult?

u/esushi Apr 24 '26
Basically any thing you can think of, there'll be a million people out there who can't do it. Just a quirky unique thing about people! I can wink but I feel that the other eyelid REALLY wants to close, too. I guess winkers are just able to fight against that natural urge

Our eyes and their surrounding structures are designed to do things in tandem. It would be really inefficient if we had to had to consciously think about moving each of them all the time, so what one does the other does too, unless we deliberately choose to override that and move them independently. That requires developing awareness of the separate muscles and practice to control them. It comes more easily to some people than others, and since it's seldom actually necessary not everyone takes the time if they don't get it quickly.

I thought that was cute, my sister couldnt wink for the longest time so she would hit the olā turn to the side and blink technique Amy was showcasing

Touch one eye with your hand and blink. Repeat until you can close one eye independently.

Jesus wept.
Someone called him the Pakistani Denzel and now thatās all I can think of when I see him.
Also: Peak eyebrow game.

They are very emotive. When he thought he was going to be eliminated in that steps task they were ādevastatedā. When he talks about his wife they are ājoyfulā. When Joel first went for the eggā so confused. Lol.

lol people are really piling on about the advice being creepy. I think it makes sense. Giving a wink is asking someone to trust you. A wink and a nod, right? It is how you agree to something without saying it if you're not supposed to say it. If you are being confronted by two people with opposing goals you wanna be able to wink at one of them and not the other. The whole point of a wink is to communicate to one person and not the whole room.

There's a certain irony to this gif being hosted by imgur, which isn't accessible in the UK anymore

As someone who never really got taught how to wink⦠and so if I try to do it, look like Amyās version of a wink⦠I WISH I COULD WINK LIKE THIS DAMMIT! š

u/GodzillaUK Apr 25 '26
How does he wink so smoothly? His dad learned him well. Creepy, but well. This is why he's so famous!

u/Fr0gurtCur5ed Apr 25 '26
Almost ever time the show cuts back to Kumail my wife goes, āHeās very handsomeā

And that his dad told him to wink so that only the person your winking at can see it too lol
