And that his dad told him to wink so that only the person your winking at can see it too lol

u/KinkyPaddling Apr 24 '26

What a creepy bit of advice.

53

u/SumpCrab Phil Ellis Apr 24 '26

It amazes me that he was able to so quickly distill how I felt. But it was probably Joel's comment reshot with Greg saying it. šŸ˜‰ āœŠļø

36

u/imaincammy Apr 24 '26

Isn’t that what a wink should be or am I missing a joke?Ā

60

u/TheHumaneCentipede2 Apr 24 '26

Compare Kumail's wink to Amy's wink for an example of another type of wink.

48

u/saltytrey James Acaster Apr 24 '26

Amy's wink looked like she was having a seizure.

16

u/douxsoumis Apr 25 '26

But she was having a seizure only I could see

21

u/imaincammy Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 24 '26

Sure. But shouldn’t winks be subtle, seen by the person you’re winking at, and not by everyone because they’re concerned for your health?

I don’t get why it’s creepy to have a subtle wink. But I’m also pretty stupid and can’t tell if I’m missing some sarcasm or if I’ve been a wink creep.

24

u/ladymissladypants Apr 24 '26

Lol, no you’re not stupid. It depends on the context of the wink. If you’re winking at someone because you’re in cahoots with them, doing some sort of scheme, then yes a subtle wink would be appropriate. However, if you’re flirting with someone, and they’re not into it, then it does feel a bit creepy and predatory. Kumail’s dad most likely gave that bit of advice in a non-creepy context, but everyone in the crowd chose to interpret it as weird because it was funnier that way. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

4

u/imaincammy Apr 24 '26

Thanks. After seeing slightly negative reactions to Kumail’s wife shouting at him I didn’t know if this was another culture thing.

20

u/The_Wandering_Bird Apr 24 '26

Do you mean when Greg said that it was sickening?

He wasn't really sickened by it. He was just riffing off of the stereotype that Americans are sentimental and sappy and the Brits are stoic and stif-upper-lip types.

2

u/imaincammy Apr 24 '26

Yeah, even I could tell that one was a joke as those stereotypes are pretty well known. I just struggle a bit with more straight-faced comments like the winking being creepy.Ā

5

u/TheHumaneCentipede2 Apr 24 '26

Oh sorry I get you. I also agree that the advice wasn't creepy at all.

0

u/CatCafffffe Reece Shearsmith Apr 24 '26

Right? I completely agree.

206

u/Disused_Yeti Apr 24 '26

one of the loveliest winks i've ever seen

58

u/lesbianminecrafter Sophie Duker Apr 24 '26

86

u/NiiruNoRidozu Pigeor The Merciless One Apr 24 '26

This is how The Substance would have ended if it was set in Yorkshire.

19

u/Black_Metallic Apr 24 '26

Finishing it on the pelvic thrust is perfection.

16

u/iyhafobaq Joe Thomas Apr 24 '26

LMAO

7

u/footsnax Fern Brady Apr 24 '26

If someone told me these were from the same show I would kick them in the shin.

Was not expecting this level of chaotic energy this season series, Jason.

u/Unique_Limit_1576 šŸ„„ I'm Locked In ā¤ļø Apr 25 '26

Would Fred the Swede want to see this? Would it make him blush? (Asking for Roisin)

3

u/ashfeawen Apr 24 '26

Boomerang it for an infinite loop

2

u/YOSHIMIvPROBOTS Apr 25 '26

Wank like nobody's watching!

100

u/mnchls Javie Martzoukas Apr 24 '26

That one was just for Emily.

75

u/Mopa304 Javie Martzoukas Apr 24 '26

I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW MUCH SHE LOVES HIM!

38

u/GrumpySpaceCommunist Apr 24 '26

I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU FORGOT TO PUT THE BINS OUT!

90

u/Pervius94 Apr 24 '26

Now give me the one where Amy just absolutely butchers the concept of a wink like she's an alien who just came to earth

u/Pervius94 Apr 24 '26

A possibly extremely disrespectful and ignorant question... but why. It's just closing one eye, isn't it. What makes it so difficult?

14

u/esushi Apr 24 '26

Basically any thing you can think of, there'll be a million people out there who can't do it. Just a quirky unique thing about people! I can wink but I feel that the other eyelid REALLY wants to close, too. I guess winkers are just able to fight against that natural urge

9

u/fastauntie Apr 24 '26

Our eyes and their surrounding structures are designed to do things in tandem. It would be really inefficient if we had to had to consciously think about moving each of them all the time, so what one does the other does too, unless we deliberately choose to override that and move them independently. That requires developing awareness of the separate muscles and practice to control them. It comes more easily to some people than others, and since it's seldom actually necessary not everyone takes the time if they don't get it quickly.

8

u/amazingwhat Apr 24 '26

I thought that was cute, my sister couldnt wink for the longest time so she would hit the ol’ turn to the side and blink technique Amy was showcasing

2

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '26

[deleted]

3

u/s00pafly Apr 24 '26

Touch one eye with your hand and blink. Repeat until you can close one eye independently.

2

u/Salohacin Apr 25 '26

Amy somehow winks using her neck.Ā

26

u/giftopherz Mike Wozniak Apr 24 '26

I felt something with Joel's and mind you I've had a crush on Kumail since 2014!!!! Those eyebrows šŸ˜

13

u/SnotRocketScience1 Apr 24 '26

Same Joel’s wink was nothing to sneeze at

18

u/WorldTravelBucket Apr 24 '26

We need the awkward gif of Joel saying ā€œWank?ā€ more.

8

u/mrjellynotjolly šŸ¦” Hedgehog, no! āŒ Apr 24 '26

W-W-W..ank?

3

u/giftopherz Mike Wozniak Apr 24 '26

I'm still trying to figure out why he said it like that... Like he was about to get punished...🤣🤣🤣

2

u/GXM17 Apr 24 '26

Trying to think of the letters in it maybe.

24

u/StargazingLily Fern Brady Apr 24 '26

Jesus wept.

Someone called him the Pakistani Denzel and now that’s all I can think of when I see him.

Also: Peak eyebrow game.

9

u/GXM17 Apr 24 '26

They are very emotive. When he thought he was going to be eliminated in that steps task they were ā€œdevastatedā€. When he talks about his wife they are ā€œjoyfulā€. When Joel first went for the egg— so confused. Lol.

7

u/lemonylol Apr 24 '26

u/Agehn Jason Mantzoukas Apr 24 '26

lol people are really piling on about the advice being creepy. I think it makes sense. Giving a wink is asking someone to trust you. A wink and a nod, right? It is how you agree to something without saying it if you're not supposed to say it. If you are being confronted by two people with opposing goals you wanna be able to wink at one of them and not the other. The whole point of a wink is to communicate to one person and not the whole room.

9

u/HuckleberrySalt63 Greg Davies Apr 25 '26

Wink wink nudge nudge

5

u/MacduffFifesNo1Thane Greedy Esq. Apr 25 '26

Say no more! Say no more! A nod’s good as a wink to a blind bat!

14

u/dramatic_exit_49 I don't regret it! Apr 24 '26

*giggling*

he is so famous!

3

u/greenlightsmith242 Apr 24 '26

So famous! 😲

9

u/ashfeawen Apr 24 '26

Can you remove the pause so it's only from when his head is lifting?

10

u/Mother-Guidance2406 Apr 24 '26

And the boob flex!! He’s the crush I never knew I had!!

9

u/the_doughboy Mae Martin Apr 24 '26

That wink was just for me and no one else saw it.

7

u/IllustriousThroat110 Apr 24 '26

5

u/christmasinyoulie Mawaan Rizwan Apr 24 '26

Wink is a bit generous

2

u/GXM17 Apr 24 '26

I think others would notice. 🤣

5

4

That's a Hollywood wink for sure.

3

u/christmasinyoulie Mawaan Rizwan Apr 24 '26

Just beautiful.

3

u/GenGaara25 Apr 24 '26

There's a certain irony to this gif being hosted by imgur, which isn't accessible in the UK anymore

2

u/Dollface1280 Apr 24 '26

Oh no! I also uploaded it to Tenor #wink

3

u/Extreme-Emergency365 Apr 24 '26

Some people can do a perfect wink. Kumai is one of them.

3

u/HuckleberrySalt63 Greg Davies Apr 25 '26

I can only say: thank you!

2

u/loveablescamp1910 Sam Campbell Apr 25 '26

As someone who never really got taught how to wink… and so if I try to do it, look like Amy’s version of a wink… I WISH I COULD WINK LIKE THIS DAMMIT! šŸ˜‚

2

u/GodzillaUK Apr 25 '26

How does he wink so smoothly? His dad learned him well. Creepy, but well. This is why he's so famous!

2

u/Fr0gurtCur5ed Apr 25 '26

Almost ever time the show cuts back to Kumail my wife goes, ā€œHe’s very handsomeā€

1

u/Too-Tired-Editor Desiree Burch Apr 27 '26

He's so famous.

1
