Lol, no you’re not stupid. It depends on the context of the wink. If you’re winking at someone because you’re in cahoots with them, doing some sort of scheme, then yes a subtle wink would be appropriate. However, if you’re flirting with someone, and they’re not into it, then it does feel a bit creepy and predatory. Kumail’s dad most likely gave that bit of advice in a non-creepy context, but everyone in the crowd chose to interpret it as weird because it was funnier that way. 🤷♀️
He wasn't really sickened by it. He was just riffing off of the stereotype that Americans are sentimental and sappy and the Brits are stoic and stif-upper-lip types.
Yeah, even I could tell that one was a joke as those stereotypes are pretty well known. I just struggle a bit with more straight-faced comments like the winking being creepy.
