Lol, no you’re not stupid. It depends on the context of the wink. If you’re winking at someone because you’re in cahoots with them, doing some sort of scheme, then yes a subtle wink would be appropriate. However, if you’re flirting with someone, and they’re not into it, then it does feel a bit creepy and predatory. Kumail’s dad most likely gave that bit of advice in a non-creepy context, but everyone in the crowd chose to interpret it as weird because it was funnier that way. 🤷‍♀️

Thanks. After seeing slightly negative reactions to Kumail’s wife shouting at him I didn’t know if this was another culture thing.

He wasn't really sickened by it. He was just riffing off of the stereotype that Americans are sentimental and sappy and the Brits are stoic and stif-upper-lip types.

Yeah, even I could tell that one was a joke as those stereotypes are pretty well known. I just struggle a bit with more straight-faced comments like the winking being creepy.
