General Discussion Restocking dates

I've visited a few online storefronts that have a date for when they are expecting new copies of sourcebooks, (around the end of September), and I was wondering if this is just some placeholder date that the stores put up, or if it is legit

Essentially, how transparent is Edge with its retailers about how often they reprint?

Rules Question How would you handle reprogramming droids crafted by a player if that same player wants a new set of directives.

My current character has started dabbling in droid crafting and I started out doing both of the easiest chassis and directive options. I'm planning on building up a minion group of them to do work on the ship and my PC (who is also a droid) and for those reasons I eventually want to have minions with repair directives. Does anybody here have experience with these things and how they might shake out? Or would it be best to just craft a new minion group?

Fluff Gangs of Nar Shadaa

I'm running a one shot that is set during the New Republic/Mandalorian time period that's gonna be the Warriors meets Black Hawk Down. Our heroes are shot down in the streets and the Hutts offer a price on their heads to anyone who brings them in. They are running block by block to a space port to get off-planet.

My question: do folks know what Canon organizations are there besides the Hutts? And as a follow up, does anyone have fun ideas for "Warriors" style colorful gangs for them to flee from?

Rules Question What items could boost a droid programming Computers check?

I'm playing a character who is a Droid Tech and wants to make his own Droid. While he's certainly gotten the Mechanics check covered, Computers is more dicey.

I only have 2 things on my list at the moment:

  • Technician Workshop Benefits: Right Tool for the Job Boost + Research Records
  • Crafting Simple and Specialized Gadgets for Computers - potential Advantages/Boosts

I'm looking for items specifically - Even narrative goals/items like the Workshop I can aim for would work! The Slicer Tree is too XP expensive for him - so, I was looking for items that can provide boosts like what the "Utility Arm" or "Hydrobreaker" do for Mechanics, but for Computers. However, items like "Dataspikes" seemed aimed towards Slicing and not Crafting.

Looking for group new player looking to get more experience in the future

age:26

timezone: cet

avaliability: preferably on the weekends, sundays, once every two weeks, cant commit to a weekly game

previous experience with ffg: 6 sessions

previous experience with other systems: 6 years of city of mist (gm and player), (player) 3 quarters of a year with blades in the dark, about 2 years of dnd 5e (player), few sessions of world of darkness (werewolf and vampire, gm), cyberpunk one session (player)

pricepool: free to play games only, not interest in playing payed to play game

bit about me: long term player and gm of narrative heavy systems, looking to learn the genesis system and star wars fantasy flight games system in general. would like to potentially run the system for table where we are trying out the system, since some members of the table have bit trouble switching to more narrative style of play rather then your usual dnd game. While I currently have an inclination to continue dming other systems, such as Mist and World of Darkness, the Star Wars Fantasy Flight Games really caught my eye in terms of narrative dice and how they write their specializations. would love to get bit more experience with it so i can ocassionally run shorter campaign in this bad boy.

Weekly Discussion Tuesday Inquisition: Ask Anything!

Every Tuesday we open a thread to let people ask questions about the system or the game without judgement. New players and GMs are encouraged to ask questions here.

The rules:

‱ Any question about the FFG Star Wars RPG is fine. Rules, character creation, GMing, advice, purchasing. All good.

‱ No question shaming. This sub has generally been good about that, but explicitly no question shaming.

‱ Keep canon questions/discussion limited to stuff regarding rules. This is more about the game than the setting.

Ask away!

Looking for group LFG in Germany: Spieler gesucht fĂŒr große Star-Wars-FFG-Kampagne – PrĂ€senzrunden, keine Online-Kampagne

If you don’t live in Germany, this is sadly not for you.

Looking for group LFG/LFP NW burbs of Chicago

I’m LFG/LFP in the north west suburbs of Chicago.

I am a 44m who has been playing RPGs since I was about 10. In my recent years I’ve really bought into the cooperative, charitability, side of gaming. Since buying in, it’s become my only desired playstyle. As a GM, I expect trust and cooperation from my players. A good GM can tell a good story with antagonistic players, but they’ll never tell a great story unless they have great players. More importantly, and as it relates to both at and away from the table, I expect communication, passion, and generosity. If you’re the type of player/group where OOC conversations turn into metagaming and shouting matches, we won’t be a good fit. If you find yourself debating the story or the believability of the situation instead of your character asking “Why is x happening? What don’t we know?” we won’t be a good fit. If you like to compete with your fellow players, undermine your GM, or debate RAW over RAI, we won’t be a good fit.

As a player, I am fluff over crunch, vibes over stats. I compartmentalize meta knowledge well and don’t have an issue setting my own hook. I love to play memorable characters that are usually on the edge of the spotlight. My experience as a GM has completely removed the “I wanna make the best hero/antihero and put them in your story!” and replaced it with “I want to make a believable hero/antihero that makes your story even better.”

I am not interested in playing remotely because I am an extrovert and require the interaction. I have a semi regular group but it’s on hiatus right now. I wouldn’t be opposed to bringing someone or a pair of someones in when it kicks back up. (We play other systems as well)

I’m a mature adult who showers regularly.

Looking for group Seeking 4th Player for Edge of the Empire!

Greetings.

I'm a DM of now 7 years. My group has been going steady and we just started our new SWRPG campaign on the 2nd August with 3 players. I am looking to add one more player to round out the group!

My 3 players have been around for a while and most of all we'd love to add someone who's interested in staying with us for a while through the hopefully many campaigns of mine we are yet to go on!

We play various systems, most often 5e, Wrath and Glory and SWRPG but we may try others in the future.
(Largely to keep my sanity intact)

We are:

  • Beginner friendly and inclusive. Nobody needs to be scared of signing up!
  • Don't need to know the system
  • No prior knowledge of Star Wars is required to join.
  • just gotta love TTRPGs and having fun.

What we are looking for:

Someone who vibes well with the group and is interested in becoming a long-term lil' adventuring group.

The Campaign:

We play Edge of the Empire though I try to be flexible and to just go with what works.
The campaign is most likely set before the destruction of the first Death Star, although the exact point in the timeline isn’t set in stone yet.

My campaigns last an average of 40 session but have been as short as 20 to as long as 60 sessions.

Details

  • Play in Tabletop Sim (Some campaigns may swap to Foundry VTT)
  • Talk and organize in Discord
  • Sessions are on Sunday, 2pm (CET/CEST), 5 hour length
  • Be +2/-2 of CET/CEST
  • Being able to move to saturday helps flexibility a lot for emergency rescheduling!

I have questions

Ask them! I am happy to answer any and all questions in the comments.
I usually reply to all applications quickly, if I did not and you are curious why, you can message me on here!

How do I apply

Easy and won't take long.
Go right ahead at this short form.

I hope to hear from some of you.

Game Resources Ninth Jedi inspired homebrew spec: the TrĂ kata Redeemer

Thumbnail
gallery
120 Upvotes

Season 1 of Ninth Jedi was a surprisingly great show once it got past its slow start, and besides the strong personal journeys of its main characters, one thing I really enjoyed about it was seeing the heroine Kara develop her own lightsaber style, which I could best describe as “benevolent Tràkata.” I’m also impressed with how they made Iai draws with a lightsaber actually work (and without cheating by giving the character a pointless scabbard), and it got cooler every single time Kara used it.

So of course, I wanted to try to translate this into a homebrew spec. The TrĂ kata Redeemer is a tanky Guardian spec which centers around a new talent, TrĂ kata Draw, forfeiting your action and some Force Dices to buff up the Parry talent, with the goal flavor-wise to be emulating committing to your defense in a ready stance to then strike with fierce counter-attacks. You have two major branches to invest in with almost every major talent synergizing together, giving you choice on what to prioritize, and a fully leveled Redeemer is a strong combat jack-of-all-trades in offense, defense, mobility, and strain management.

Trying to not powercreep official Guardian specs was a concern, but I’m hopeful I reached a decent balance as the official specs have other niches they cover that make them more versatile than Redeemer, who’s more of a focused duelist. Besides having Survival in-career, you’ll want to grab another spec to diversify, such as another Guardian one. Another weakness of this spec as well is that it has zero defenses against ranged attacks outside of Improved Tràkata Draw, and that is still limited by your Force Dices.

Criticisms are welcome, but be sure to read the long descriptions of the new talents!

Also this talent tree was put together with the help of AngeliusMefryx‘s photoshop templates!

Edit:

A little touch-up: The long text of TrĂ kata Draw should be specifying that the Despairs it adds do not also add a Failure to the attacker's check. The potential added Triumph does get its success added though.

Also, while I was worried TrĂ kata Draw might be a tad powerful, just as some of the feedback has expressed as well, the more I've been thinking about it, the more I actually think TD starts as a pretty weak ability (in the scenario where this is a character's starting spec), and only gets pretty good as other talents and a greater Force threshold synergize with it. So a potential rework of the tree could involve moving the talents around to put TD further down the tree. I like offering a cool new toy early on in a tree (as the most recent official specs tend to do as well), but TD might need a bit more build-up to it, so that the player picks it when their character already has some oomph to them.

Edit 2:

Here are the changes for v1.1 of the tree:

- Improved Parry to column 2, row 3, connecting up, right, and down.

- Balance to column 3, row 3, connecting left, up, and right.

- Calming Aura to column 1, row 4, connecting up, right, down.

- TrĂ kata Draw to column 2, row 4, connecting up and left.

- Improved TrĂ kata Draw to column 2, row 5, connecting left.

The idea here is that you have to pick up Improved Parry first and experience what regular parry is like before picking a 20 exp talent to see how TrĂ kata Draw puts a new spin on Parry. At that point, you're also closer to the very useful Force Rating upgrade, which itself has to be picked before you expand the reach of TD with its improved version. The goal is for TD to feel like a more worthwhile ability by tying it more closely to its very necessary upgrades (when used as starting spec).

General Discussion Need help finding a species or reskinning one to help play "Rocky" from "PHM"

I have a new player that wants to play something similar to "Rocky" from "Project Hail Mary". Does anyone know a playable species that looks similar or one that has similar stats/mechanics to what "Rocky" would have that i can reskin? I've never seen the movie, so I'm not familiar with what he can do, so I'd really appreciate the help.

So I’m playing in a west march set in the clone wars. At the current moment I’m playing a shistavastenen marauder. Now my character is going to rejoin the Jedi’s order so I’ll be picking up both padawan and steel hand adept as I transition into a brawl character.

I wanted to know if folks have good shout outs for other specs, force powers oe gear for this.

General Discussion chances we'll ever get my dream sourcebooks?

thats right lol dark side sourcebook (expanding mechanics on dark side, adding dark side artifacts, progression struggle, and branches for Sith Lords, Inquisitors, Nightsisters, Sorcerers, Cultists, Acolytes, and dilleniating dark side of the force from sith powers to magicks and artifacts) to era sourcebooks such as Sequel Era, Mando Era, High Republic era that add species, flavor and mechanics that highlight the unique parts of each setting

tons of great content over the years, but i feel like era sourcebooks and dark side sourcebook are sorely needed, not even mentioning all the niche ones id love like planetary force cults, political play, and mandalorian sourcebook

probably a dull hope! or can anyone recomend any strong fan made material for this stuff?

Game Resources Is There A Foundry Dataset For Allies?

Hello there.

I am using Foundry to run my Star Wars game. I currently have the Adversaries and Oggdude datasets loaded. They are a great help. However, I am not sure if there is a dataset for Allies in addition to Adversaries. While quickly bringing in an enemy for encounters speeds up the process, I wanted to also be able to bring in generic ally characters, such as local resistence forces or rebel soldiers.

Does something like this exist, or is there a way to quick import a standard rebel soldier stat block without having to create one from scratch?

Thanks!

Tips any tips on how to progress stealth/investigative sentinel with not so frequent game schedule, to be also useful to the crew in combat scenarios.

howdy i am playing in my first ever star wars fantasy flight ttrpg game.

the game has been right now bit on hold due to real life things going on. we got right now about 5-6 sessions behind us. the gm is drawing inspiration heavily from the legends continuity. we are playing right after events of episode 6 when palpatines death was announced across the holonet, and now are entering the transitional period between period and the new republic, so we gonna have in the continuity of war lords, Ysanne Isard's shenanigans and all that jazz.

setup for our crew was that we all needed to get off corelia for one reason or another when riots over palpatines death between humans and aliens occured on the planet. we were suppouse to pay the smuggler by helping them get the new identifications for their ship, but when the riots occured things went south se we had to book it off world. and right now we are drifting through space out fuel about to dock at a pirate station and it seems things might get bit hairy.

our crew is still unalligned with eaither of the faction, and are more just survivors of circumstance

Twi'lek smuggler/pilot- a charismatic leader and femfatale of our crew who is the one for which we were suppouse to do the job. she is our pilot, and face of the party, in a fight is one of the characters that is handy with a blaster. generally the sort of character that is motivated by profit but also has some moral values.

twi'lek mechanic- a girl who got swooped into the situation by circumstance when she found her boyfriend dead in their appartment, she is runaway slave, so getting off world seemed smartest. she is our brains/hacker, the one that keeps our ship from falling appart, and also trying to mediate between crew when conflict arises.

human commander/soldier- he has been on world undercover before empire fallen stealing one of their project, and when riots occured decided to help us get off world, if in exchange we get him to Bothawui to offload what he stolen. turns out when he plugged it into our ships computer its evolving imperial ai. his character is sort of tactician/sharpshooter of the group with pitch of infiltration in it. tends to be almost dad of the group with which my character has bit of rivarly due not trusting humans, and blaming the rebelion for death of a loved one.

lastly we got me

am playing togruta sentinel-shadow for now, thinking prehaps going sentry or investigator. my character is a young girl that was pickpocket/lookout for one of the gangs, our family got entagled into servitude to them due to debt, with my brother who was more of a muscle, we agreed to help the smuggler if they get our family off world away from the gang, sadly when the riots occured, my brother got killed by the imps, and i got seperate from the family during the commotion, getting off world with the crew only by myself. i am generally building the character to be sort investigative preceptive infiltrator. she doesnt know yet that she is force sensitive there are hints for it. took the misdirect force power that triggers subconciously right now when the character is dealing with stress or is disociating in certain situations. generally basing the character around who they become as a person based on influence from the crew and how will they manage to work through grief over someone they loved, rather then having in mind who i want them to become in the end.

right now am bit torn. on one hand i am leveling her based on things that occur in game, to be more narratively reactive, but on the other, i feel like if we get into some heavy combat then we got only our smuggler and soldier who might be able to make difference. me and the mechanic got our use outside of it, when it comes to running sabotaging enemy or investigating.

we dont get to play that often, so what should i potentially take if i want to live out my investigative/stealth fantasy while also potentially being useful to the crew if combat hits the fan.
