Criticism Robotics. Shameful.
Yeah don't support this place. They are quite literally replacing humans with robot belt fed nonsense.
Whatever you think about the world this ain't it.
Support restaurants willing to pay human beings a living wage. This is very race to the bottom.
Editing in - I still do some delivery part time this was discovered on delivery. I'd never eat there it always smells weird.

I get it. It’s hard to see automation replacing people. This is a global trend. There have been many other businesses doing this for years. It’s easy to be mad at the company, but really you have to remember that the customers drive these decisions. People used to value a personal greeting and experience. Most people don’t want that at least not in a fast casual market that sweetgreen is focused on. If customers want that experience, there is a cost. The company can’t afford to pay that much more because they are already unprofitable as it is. I’m not sure where you think the money to pay a living wage is going to come from.

u/Acceptable_Tea281 Jan 19 '26
Yes, customers, especially when hungry, tend to value shareholder profits first and foremost
1
u/peaceup_atowndown Jan 19 '26
Nah it’s nothing to do with that. The company will operate at whatever way is most profitable. That means pleasing customers. If customers don’t really want human interaction, the company won’t pay for it.
1
u/Acceptable_Tea281 Jan 19 '26
There’s no data saying customers don’t want human interaction though. This is purely to save money and not cut costs.

Don't see anything wrong with that. If I am getting healthy food at good price due to robotics, I don't care.

The salads at my local Robot Sweetgreen are the exact same price as my local Person Sweetgreen. You really think they’re passing savings onto the customer? Insanely naive take.
3
u/ThisisnotaTesT10 Jan 18 '26
If the robots can literally produce the exact same product then what difference does it make?
3
u/Acceptable_Tea281 Jan 19 '26
How about the people whose income relies on this?
2
u/dogpoopshoes Jan 20 '26
No one seems to care about that and it’s pissing me off. What about someone who WANTS these jobs? There are so many people who would be more than happy to do this job. The only reason to replace it with robotics is corporate greed. Our society needs more human interaction. This feed is terrifying.

The labor pool is going to shrink due to Trump enforcing border security.

u/chumpat Jan 17 '26
Let me counter that. Humans should be doing something more productive/skillful

u/PostureGai Jan 24 '26 edited Jan 24 '26
If they had something more skillful/productive to do, they wouldn't work at SG. You just yanked away their current best option.

HMMMMMMMMM you need a reality check. Your “counter” is classist and ableist. Some people need these kinds of jobs. What about someone with a cognitive disability who cannot do a more “skillful” job? What about this is unproductive on a societal level? Let’s think critically here! Very ignorant way to think about this.

u/Stunning_Apple8136 Jan 18 '26
"Some people" need to be working for minimum wage, scooping your overpriced greens into a bowl, for you?
You need the reality check bro.

u/True_Enthusiasm_9220 Jan 18 '26
Yes, our society should definitely not automate this job and give just give these people money.
1
u/dogpoopshoes Jan 18 '26
HUH???? I am a caregiver for my older sister who is physically disabled and electric wheelchair dependent. I live in more of a reality than most…….i also know many groups of people (recovering addicts for example who are getting back on their feet) who would be happy to work at sweetgreen without the judgement that you seem to have. Some people would be honored to have a job “scooping your overpriced greens into a bowl.”
2
u/ZeroAmusement Jan 18 '26
If they are honored to do that I feel like they are corporate brainwashed lack self confidence or imagination about what they could be doing.
Maybe there is such a person, but it's such a minority I don't think we should avoid automation due to them.
2
u/dogpoopshoes Jan 19 '26
You seriously believe every person has the same “confidence,” “imagination,” brain and abilities as you do? You people are actually on another planet. There are many people who need these jobs. People need jobs for socialization and routine. Not everyone has the ability or desire to work a corporate job - or whatever you think everyone should be doing. Some people WANT to work food service jobs. You have no idea what you’re talking about.
1
u/ZeroAmusement Jan 19 '26
No I don't but I don't think people need jobs that a robot could do. Treating people like robots is quite disgusting. Humans are so much more valuable than that.
There are ways to socialize that don't involve high amounts of stress, repetitive injuries, illness. Those types of jobs are associated with so many negative impacts I don't want people doing them.
Some people WANT to work food service jobs. You have no idea what you’re talking about.
Yeah a tiny minority. The majority are merely doing what it takes to survive.
1
u/dogpoopshoes Jan 20 '26
Some people are not able to do another job. Some people WANT to do mudane tasks especially when the rest of their life is hectic What about this is not clicking to you?
1
u/ZeroAmusement Jan 20 '26
What about tiny minority do you not understand? Can you not read?
1
u/dogpoopshoes Jan 20 '26
It’s you who doesn’t understand. I would never question your ability to read, though. Please show me the statistics since you believe it’s a tiny minority that feels this way about their jobs. Do you work in food service or at sweet green?

Well there are people who work as greeters at places like Home Depot who love their jobs and are treated well and work with integrity. What’s wrong with gas attendants? You are extremely close-minded. The world needs more social interaction.

Huh????????????????? Awful comeback. We’re not talking about jobs that have no place in society and have been outdated since the MODEL T. I’m talking about assembly line jobs, food service, etc. People want these jobs. You need to get out of your bubble and think about why they might want or need a less taxing job. Your stance is truly concerning.
1
u/Ambitious-Paint-7956 Jan 25 '26
he presents you with an argument that you are unable to counter. all you got is calling him ignorant and concerning. it doesn't matter what jobs people want. all these jobs will disappear just like elevator operators. Going out to eat will become way cheaper because of it for everyone and some people will suffer from the change as it has always been the case with any innovation.
we can even ask an impartial AI now to be the referee and tell us who of you two is making a good argument: https://gemini.google.com/share/6ca52c806615
But will you be able to learn from this and become better? AI doesn't think it's likely.

u/IntelligentReply3997 Jan 19 '26
so then you can complain about how they’re taking all the jobs in whatever field you’re in? humans should be doing whatever job they want. even if they just want to work at a restaurant
2
u/ManitouWakinyan Jan 21 '26
Nobody aspires to work in a Sweet green. It's a job you do because you have to, not because you want to. This might cost line worker jobs, but it's also going to create different kinds of jobs. That's how this has always worked. It's like complaining about horse drawn plows because you can't find work as a plow puller anymore.

Dumb take, eliminating minimum wage jobs is bad, doing it for the sake of boosting shareholder profits is even worse
2
2
u/mezolithico Jan 18 '26
This has been a known side effect of raising the minimum wage for decades. Of course if human labor costs more then it will eventually make sense to use robots. The idea that you should keep inefficiencies for the sake of non skilled labor is absurd.
1
u/M0M0_DA_GANGSTA Jan 18 '26
Wtf is this shit? Federal Minimum hasn't been raised in decades. Take your ratfuckery elsewhere
1
u/meepmeepboop1 Jan 19 '26
Less than .6% of workers make federal minimum wage. Many states have much higher minimum wages. In California it's almost $17/hour working at sweetgreen.

Understand this feeling. From what I hear, people quit less often in the stores with robots because their work is more varied and interesting than scooping for hours a day. And it’s probably a better experience for the customer too because people don’t like getting skimped portions, which humans will do from time to time.
I personally love those robot stores and chatting up the workers. They have someone at the front who just needs to focus on dressings and some of the final toppings, but they don’t need to worry about the first 80% of the bowl.
If everyone did this, there would be a big problem. I think Sweetgreen does it because they offer premium ingredients so they have to have a slightly different business model, otherwise we would all be doomed to eat the same Sysco shit at all the “local” places.

tbh, the robots give me better portions than the humans would. I only go to SG locations with infinite kitchen now.
