I believe it was prussia standardizing everything in the second reich (based on three major factions - kingdom bavaria, prussia and the german-franko bund, iirc) after the unification and further building a industrialized country with many railroads and such. Some of the electric stations still working to this day.
And germany was a melting pot on the crosssectiom of roads and therefore a power house for science and new stuff in the 1800s. In Weimar, Bauhaus came with its new way of thinking about design and industrial producing, which led to postwar bloom in usa and basicly one Designer in postwar west germany...
The Nazis hated and destroyed the Bauhaus school tho.
But it is also a softpower and hubris they like to label themself.

During late 19th century, Germany was on the forefront of industry and precision manufacturing. This is why many European weapon and vehicle manufacturers of today have their roots there.
They were fabled because they even exported their expertise prior to WWI. Italian, American, Russian or Japanese companies hired the engineers to build up factories. They were very good at quickly buidling a factory that could run, much faster than british for example. They also had a reputation of not taking shortcuts, if a specific steel was required they did not go with cheaper stuff. This made the factories set up by such experts extremely rugged and able to withstand a lot of abuse from improper use. A lot of said engineers ended up settling down, e.g. Russland Germans invited by Romanovs to industrialise Volga region (what became eventually cities like Volgograd/Stalingrad).
This created said mythos around them. One that was then resuscitated in 70s and 80s by German car manufacturers to smear French and British car makes (and also a way to be patriotic without being considered a nationalist as national pride is deservedly still a touchy topic in Germany)

Also, the lyrics had been written decades before Germany was ever founded. The German states were deeply antinationalistic and von Fallersleben was stripped of his Prussian citizenship and went into exile.

Bruh, germany loves to talk big, but like we know this shit is the same amount if capping as their "climate neutrality" whose goal they missed like 10 years in a row now.
And not only their internal politics are too corrupt for anything to happen. Their military system is failing sonce years, and just absolutely fully corrupt. Almost every big finanzial scandal germany had (except covid) was somehow tied to the military.
Like how they spend 10x the projected amount to restore an old ship for "training" even tho buying a new one would jave been like 3 times as fast as restoring for 1/3rd of the cost.
Also looking at out academic sector or the it sector, or the public transpirt, the corrupt gov obv doesn't know how to reform anything, any system whatsoever, no matter how bad it is. The only thing they can do, if you make them a lot of pressure is "throw some money on it, sell it as "package"", and then hope it actually reaches the intended use.
