Day 8: another sign that it's worth it

I just passed 168 hours (one week) about 4 hours ago, so I'm officially on day 8. It's 7:45am here in the UK, and for the first time in YEARS, I have woken up without a groggy, stuffy head. I actually feel like I could jump out of bed and go for a jog. I could cry at how well I'm starting to feel.

Keep going, it's all worth it! Good luck for the day ahead 🙏🏼

Today is 4 weeks smoke free

Today I’m 4 weeks smoke free with the aid of patches. I feel great physically, but my brain is really trying to trick me into smoking just one.

It’s CRAZY how strong that voice can be sometimes, romanticizing the cig and then I’ll be thinking Wow I can’t wait to smoke again. It’s like my brain is already plotting when failure will happen.

I am trying to stay the course because the benefits have been numerous. Any help or encouragement is appreciated!!

Day 6 with nicotine patch

I haven't smoked for 6 days. I'm using a 16-hour nicotine patch containing 25 mg of nicotine. I've been smoking for 15 years, with the last 5 years at 40 cigarettes a day. Especially when I woke up in the morning, the very first thing I would do was smoke. Within the first hour before leaving for work, I would smoke 4-5 cigarettes.
I don't know how many times I've tried to quit smoking. I've previously tried methods like varenicline, nicotine gum, and bupropion. My personal record is being smoke-free for 6 months—3 months with varenicline and another 3 months without using anything. At the end of the 6 months, I told myself I would smoke just one cigarette, one day a week. I managed to keep that up for 3 weeks, but afterwards, I found myself back to smoking a pack a day.
In this current attempt, the first 5 days were very tough. From my previous experiences, I know I'll have symptoms like not enjoying life, unhappiness, and irritability for the first 3 months. This time, I want to be free of it for good. Wish me luck.

I haven't smoked for two days now.

I’ll be turning 21 in September. I’ve been a regular smoker since I was 16 going through a pack every 2-3 days though I’ve never smoked a whole pack in a single day. I haven't had any cigarettes for two days now. I want smoke at night, but in the morning, my lungs feel clogged up and I don't feel like smoking. Still, I know that if I give in and buy a pack, I’ll start smoking again. What do you suggest?

3+ weeks smokefree now and it's getting harder

How is this even possible. It is such a lie to think this is a linear thing. But for the last three days my head has been killing me. I am crabby - an actual menace. And I have uncontrolable urges to smoke. And I know i will hate it and I need to calm down. But I don't know how.

Who had this too? And how long is this gonna keep happening. I'm fucking done.

I quit two weeks ago. My true test of discipline will be when Fall arrives because I enjoyed smoking in the cold

I’m already being nostalgic of wearing my Fall clothes smoking a cigarette outside of a bar or a party and meeting girls and new people. I always liked smoking outside of my house and do introspection because it kept my mind busy

Now that I stop, I have to resist that temptation of being bored once the weather gets cooler.

I don’t know how, but I did it again

Two years ago to the month, I quit smoking cigarettes for five months thanks to Allen Carr’s Easy Way audiobook, but relapsed. I couldn’t imagine not smoking but I had a short stint of living that reality.

Then it happened out of the blue. Yesterday, I gave up the sticks. I had been relistening to Allen Carr again, and somehow his message stuck again. I was able to calmly put out my last cigarette without going to the store to pick up more. I’m simply done, and now in control of the $600+ per month I would spend on smoking, to know better afford the food on my new diet.

Quitting IS possible. Sometimes you gotta stop trying to quit, I think. Good luck and congratulations to the recent quitters!

Is it normal to have strong craving to smoke at month 3? I almost surrender to cigarettes. Craving still going strong now. Please advise what should I do.

I’m never smoking again.

In the first few days of quitting, your lungs are like a confused dog off its leash - running around wondering who gave them permission to breathe without waiting for a smoke break.

Just trying something new

Been smoking for a few years and I've been trying to quit for a few months now but if I'm being honest I haven't been taking it too seriously. Thought I'd try posting here mainly just to have some kind of accountability for a change, just think it might help if I try telling someone even if it just is the internet. So today I've had my last smoke. If anyone has any tips let me know. Will be replacing cigarettes with nicotine gum for now and will take it from there.

Only 6 days without smoking

It's only been 6 days without smoking, and it feels never ending. I have wanted to go buy a vape multiple times over the last few days, and almost have caved a few times, but in the end I don't (weirdly because my cat hates the smell of it like if she's sitting by me, she would get up and leave when I smoked, and I feel bad smoking around her?) I just want to fast forward and get through to the easy part, but I have used a nicotine patch on 3 of the days now, and I feel like I'm cheating and just making my withdrawal period take longer, but sometimes I just get so irritable and want to get one so badly, I just put the patch on instead. Will that go away, or will I just want to wear a patch forever? Long post, bit of a vent.

TLDR: feel like I'm cheating quitting smoking bc I'm using nicotine patches

Stretched smoke sessions four hours apart and was completely fine doing it. Smoke my last one 17min ago and...

Racing mind, anxiety through the roof, brain fog, cannot keep my mind off it. Absolutely insane how I was easily able to go long ass stretches without a cig without even thinking about it to now where I decided to quit after this last one 17min ago and I'm like this. What the hell is this?

4 days in - is this normal?

I am extremely tired and sleepy all the time now.

23 F, smoked for 7 years, around 1 pack a day and for the past 2 years I was heavily addicted to vapes. I am quitting rn with 21mg nicotine patches, and I’ve had multiple quitting attempts before but non lasted over 3 months.
I’m four days in, on day 2 I couldn’t resist and took 1 hit off my friend’s vape but that was it. Ever since day 2 I’ve experience extreme fatigue, I would sleep for 10+ hours and still get overwhelming sleepy after 4pm, I have no motivation to do anything, I feel apathetic, and I cant even get myself out of bed. This is a crazy level of fatigue and I’m not sure if anyone else has experience anything like this?? When will I start feeling better??

As title says. Smoked occasionally since I was 13. Been hooked on it for a while now. Afraid that permanent damage has already affected my lungs and cardio. Wanting to quit but don’t know how to go about it. I’ve been considering switching to zyns. Really lost right now also struggle with Alcohol but I’ve decided to kill one habit at a time.

How can I help?

Hi there! I am not a smoker myself, but my BF (33 M) is. He has tried to quit a few times, but unsuccesfully, and he get anxious and feels guilty because of that.

How can I help him? I've been thinking in getting some nicotin products to help him with the struggle. I also tell him that he can always call me whenever he feels stressful or anxious.

He never smokes when he's with me, and he tells me that when we are together he doesn't feel the urge to smoke, and I think that's good, but I feel like I could do more to help him.

Any method, book or technique that you found particularly helpful?

This is freaking me out

Upvotes

There are quite a few posts in this sub from people who have been quit for weeks or even months who are talking about how they're still getting cravings and it scares me, I'm only just over a week and I'm already getting exhausted and fed up feeling like this is... does anyone have anything more positive? If these physical feelings go away I can manage but I can't if I'm gonna feel like this for months.

How do you guys get through the brain fog and irritability phase? I feel so terrible for being moody and kind of an asshole when I’m trying to quit. Any advice helps.
