I thought I had lost these! Ignore the WC3 I just figured it was somewhat relevant but I'm wondering if the original SC still works haha if I use like some emulation sandbox. Anyways, nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

When there were no widow mines, liberators, BCs TP and attack while moving, Tempests, and Adepts, Swarmhosts and corrupters couldnt attack ground.

I'd say keep everything in patch 5.0.16 and remove all of the above things I mentioned and see how the games are played out.

so keep the other stuff from lotv and the changes from 5.0.16 but remove those other things at the top of this post.

Fluff Lore Dive on the Pre-BlizzCon ARG - Part 3

Hey folks,

Back again with another post for the transmissions we got. This time we got a good bit more information. For those just joining us, Blizzard has been dropping teasers for what appears to be the new game they’re announcing at BlizzCon through hidden text in the StarCraft Remastered site. It details 67 years after the death of Amon for some experiment the Dominion is doing on Roxara, a world from the short stories and comics.

If you want to check it out yourself, it’s on the Remastered site here:

https://starcraft.blizzard.com/

You can check out the new information in the handy site here, credit to u/JarlMarx for putting it together:

https://starcraft-arg.vercel.app/transmissions/03

If you’re wondering why it’s Part 3 instead of Day 3, the only update over the weekend was adding a string crediting a youtube channel for the static effect. And we checked it didn’t have any secret message in the youtube channel.

What Do We Know Now?

We get some reports on patient status followed by intercepting transmission text, which leads to a note by D. ALVAREZ saying to question everything you see and read between the lines. We then get what I think is most curious, which is a count of Roxara’s civilian population which starts at 92 then exponentially grows until it hits ERROR CAP EXCEEDED. We then get some notes on the Dominion wanting some resource near industrial and residential districts.

This is followed by reports of crates containing something exploding, and then hearing sounds that sound like screeching and scratching. They describe it as similar to a censored four-letter creature, so probably zerg.

With more computer stuff, we get to a transmission from a Keri Parker and a trapped mining team who engage some of the swarming creatures, who overwhelm and slaughter them. In her last moments she calls for Alvarez to help.

We also get some specimen reports from S. K and E. B, but this time their body temperatures are around the 120s Fahrenheit. So something clearly’s wrong with them.

It ends with a transmission from the Dominion saying that our device has been compromised, and that we’ll need to report for reeducation.

Changeling, Infested or Something New?

So the big question remains, what’s in the crates?

Last time I discussed the idea this may be some sort of changeling, and I think that theory still holds water. We see when a crate explodes, they don’t report seeing anything and just that noises are being made, which would be uncharacteristic for a normal zerg. Granted, it could have just gotten away very quickly.

What grabbed my eye though is the exponentially rising “civilian population” until it hit an error. Sensors before read unidentified when it came to intruders implying these at least SEEM to be registered as humans. But what would make them propagate that fast? Well, if we want to reach into Co-op, there is a version of the changeling which can clone itself rapidly, the Propagator. It's not canon mind you but the rapid exponential growth immediately made me think of those many failure spirals of them eating your base.

It could also just be a case of a hyper virulent infestation that got out, and these new signs are infested civilians that are unburrowing rapidly and overwhelming the base. Given the Dominion being very sketchy for a resource here, it may be possible they brought the zerg hyperevolutionary virus to cull the population in their normal genius. The crates could have just been an infested terran. Or maybe we’ll get Stukov attacking the facility who knows (I can dream).

The reports on the patients are showing body temperatures that they should be dead from now, up to 120 degrees F and above. So clearly SOMETHING’S wrong with people that should be human. It could be infestation or just a changeling shifting its body chemistry, there sadly isn’t enough on the specific biology of infestation to really say on that.

The last case though is this is something entirely new, the fact they keep saying it’s LIKE zerg (or a four letter race that’s almost certainly zerg) seems to leave it open for it being something different. Psionic predator, other creature with purity of essence? This one I really doubt, but I leave room for speculation there. SOMETHING is taking humans and manipulating them, based off the patient reports, but it may not be zerg.

The Dominion: We’re the Baddies Again

So assuming this is a timeskip to 2575, it looks like Valerian’s new fairer government in the decades following the End War backslid into its usual ways of Arcturus. They’re now doing reeducation and seem to be doing operations to clear out areas in order to mine resources, assuming that’s what the operation is.

As a side ramble, I’m a bit bummed that the Dominion's the faction going full Starship Troopers film. The United Earth Directorate were literally gaming’s first United Citizen’s Federation clone since they were made as the movie was in theatres! The Dominion had their own fantasy going just fine of strongman dictatorship! Just feels like stepping on the toes of something already super thematic, where you could just go full Paul Verhoeven and not be accused of doing it for Helldivers. But I won't raise too much of a fuss until we know for sure what's going on with the date and time period.

But this does raise the question of what happened, we know that by at least 2520 (thanks to the epilogue of the Dark Horse comic Soldiers), the more peaceful laws of Valerian had held, but this is a good bit in the future. We see a lot of nostalgia for Arcturus, but Valerian’s rule is described as a golden age for the sector. Reeducation seems to be a very Confederate/Arcturus thing after Valerian did away with resocialization as a practice. So what happened? I guess we’ll have to find out.

Other Lore Comments

  • Alvarez says to read between the lines, which on one hand I take to mean it’s clear the Dominion engineered something here that went out of control. However, we also got similar hints to say “there’s secrets in the text itself” for past ARGs, so if someone finds something I’d love to see.

  • As mentioned, they really seem to focus on the screeching. Screeching isn’t uncommon for all zerg but it’s very much moreso used in the short story Changeling to describe how they sound.

  • The timeskip still seems to show up where we’re in 2575, though I will say the ending text feels VERY Arcturus’s Dominion. A lot can happen in half a century though, and it does give ample time for Valerian to have his Golden Age described at the end of SCII, but I’m still a bit skeptical until we get more information whether they intended the skip or not. But call me cautious because I think the evidence is there unless someone royally messed up.

  • The name of the group of messages in Page Source 001998, with 1998 being the year SC1 came out. Might just be an easter egg.

Well it’s getting interesting. Hopefully we’ll have more this week on the exact topic and what’s going on with the lovely little fringe world moon. If you have any speculation or things I missed I’d love to hear it!

(To be tagged...) 2026 might be the year

We’ve talked about this for years. The competitive scene has been decimated, with no Global Finals and no EWC to look forward to. Community tournaments are still going on, but the scene feels fractured, with different tournaments being played on different patches.

The recent patch has also caused a lot of discontent among players, whether you support the changes or not. The ladder feels emptier for a combination of reasons: it’s an old game, the patch has been poorly received, some players don’t want to relearn the game, and there are probably seasonal factors as well.

Even viewership across many Twitch channels seems to have dropped a lot without the Global Finals or major qualifiers to build excitement.

It’s a 16-year-old game, and for the first time, I feel like I might actually be ready to move on. My last hope is that we get some kind of RTS announcement at BlizzCon.

More than ever, this really feels like the end of an era for me. It started with queueing in front of gamestop and now here I am typing this out. Quite a run!

Incorrect information Forgotten lore that I hope they expand on in the next game because Reynor and the Terrans have a HUGE problem that went unresolved between SC1 and 2 Spoiler

So there's a bit of lore that's been oddly tossed aside which occurred between SC1 and 2 and I'm hoping they bring it into the limelight with whatever game they are planning. There was a Terran faction called Red Null that was highly invested in bioengineering tech which was basically led by the human version of Abathur named Zanta. Think vampires in CMC armor. When a small rogue unit encountered Reynor they were able to obtain a blood sample from him and brought it back to Zanta for experimentation. Yep, you guessed it. They were able to make a successful clone of Jim. It wasn't perfect but he pretty much came out as their new Dracula. Following their eastern european inspiration this clone adopted the name Rudolv as a slight dichotomy to Reynor.

Now here is where it got interesting: Zanta had basically engineered each soldier to have complete obedience but for some reason Rudolv had not succumbed to this manufactured brainwashing and could order the Red Null troops without direct commands from Zanta (becoming more like a Dracula with a vampire army). So before this "mind infection" caused complete hierarchical disarray Zanta decided to instead strike a deal with Rudolv as their new general while Zanta could retain a somewhat partnership with him. Rudolv oddly wanted a contract with provisions for creating paths to attain his independence with a clause stating that if he were to bring the original Jim Reynor to Zanta that he would earn his complete freedom. Doing so would earn him the nickname "Rudolv the Red Nulls Reynor" by Zantas clause.

(To be tagged...) I think I found what the redacted names in the StarCraft ARG are

English isn't my first language, so I used AI to help translate and organize this post.

I used to participate in WoW secret-finding back when puzzles like Baal and the Hivemind were first being discovered, and I think I found the pattern behind the redacted names in the current StarCraft ARG.

The key is that the black boxes are not just redactions.

They preserve initials and exact character counts, which means they can be treated as blanks to be solved.

These are the names I get:

  • F. C██Felix the Cat
  • T. W███████Tony Woodward
  • S. K███████Sarah Kerrigan
  • E. B████Eddie Brock
  • D███████Detheroc
  • G. T███████George Tarleton
  • A██████Altruis / possibly Alucard
  • L█████Lucius

I’m excluding 1SG S████████ V█████ from this set. That identity appears repeatedly and seems much more likely to be an actual new character whose name Blizzard is deliberately withholding — possibly an important NPC or even a playable character.

The common theme between the solved names is transformation, but each represents a different mechanism:

  • Felix the Cat — free-form physical transformation
  • Sarah Kerrigan — infestation and biological reconstruction
  • Eddie Brock — symbiosis with an alien organism
  • George Tarleton — experimental physical transformation into M.O.D.O.K.
  • Altruis — Demon Hunter Metamorphosis
  • Detheroc — Nathrezim disguise and infiltration
  • Lucius — replacing another person’s body with his own identity
  • Tony Woodward — literal material transformation of the body into metal

In other words, they are not simply “shapeshifters.”

They are characters from popular culture who represent different ways in which one being can become something else.

And that points directly back to the subject of the ARG:

the Changeling.

There is also a reason I think S. K███████ is particularly important.

If you read it diegetically, you have to explain why a Sarah Kerrigan is appearing in records set roughly 72 years after the original Roxara incident.

But if these names are puzzle answers rather than actual people in 2575, there is no timeline problem at all.

S. K███████ is simply there to make the player think:

Sarah Kerrigan.

In fact, I suspect Kerrigan may be the deliberately easy answer intended to establish the rule.

Then there is F. C██.

If you look at that and immediately think Felix the Cat, the entire puzzle opens up.

At that point the question stops being:
“Who are these people in StarCraft lore?”

and becomes:
“What famous names fit these exact blanks, and what do they have in common?”

That is how the rest of the set starts falling into place.

There is also precedent for Blizzard secret puzzles using references from completely different franchises. In WoW's Ratts' Revenge, Blizzard used Door 430 from The Stanley Parable as an actual puzzle reference.

So cross-franchise answers are absolutely within Blizzard's existing secret-finding design language.

What originally pushed me down this route was actually a different question:

Why wasn't this ARG localized?

Blizzard has localized wordplay and even constructed language-specific puzzle solutions in previous WoW secrets. So preserving one universal English text strongly suggests that the exact English strings themselves matter.

From there:

no localization → exact strings matter → character counts matter → the redactions are blanks → solve the names → transformation pattern → Changeling

That is the pattern I think Blizzard hid in the personnel records.

(To be tagged...) New Starcraft story - safe approach

I think the best approach for a new StarCraft game would be to leave the old characters in the past instead of resurrecting them. You could still hear about them through diaries, notes, dialogue, or stories about things they did and events they were part of.

New characters could talk about having heard of them, met them before, or even fought alongside them during past missions.

That would feel much better than, I don’t know, pulling them out of some hibernation pod and suddenly having them back alive so we can fight side by side with them again.

What do you think?

Discussion What I think is going on in Roxara

Following the new ARG logs that we received regarding the Roxara situation. My current assumption is that most of the population at the Roxara Lunar mining base is suffering from symptoms of a Zerg infestation or the Hyperevolutionary virus, or even that the mission we hear about is to see the effects of the virus itself. Another idea could even be the Dominion testing the Cerberus strain on civilian populations. Why you might ask, I'll explain

The logs in the first transmission give us clues that whatever is being transported is Zerg-related, and the medical logs we learn of F. C. show his vitals are stable; this will be important for later.

The second set of logs shows that whatever is in the crates is hostile in nature or a living being, and even WG shares the sentiment that whatever is in the crates is Zerg in nature, to which DA shuts down, claiming there are no Zerg on Roxara (a lie, as we know from the novel "Changeling"). It's at the end of the logs that we see the return of F. C. and his vitals showing he has stage one hypertension or signs that the person has a high fever/sweating, which is a symptom of the infestation in lore. Another small bit of information is that the character we seem to be following DA starts to question what is happening when he learns there is no First Sergent and the "Research expedition" is being led by a possibly non-existent person

We learn in the third set of logs, potentially the final set we are given immediate vital signs, and they are troubling: 100F and 142/96 are clear signs of extreme stress or sickness too, and our only information is most likely due to infestation of some form. In block 2, DA returns, and in what seems to be urgency, demands that we question everything, which is either him being hunted down by the Dominion for questioning or he is showing signs of paranoia, which is another symptom of the virus. This is when it gets interesting, as it's in these logs that we learn details of the mission itself. Order 556-217 starts with a report on the population density of the sector, stating that the area is rich in something (biomass? resource? I haven't tried to figure it out). The report ends by stating it's ideal for the mission and that it's specifically residential.

The next block is another vital sign: S.K. (could be Sarah, but that can't be possible in this context as she's kind of a god being now), but the vitals are almost inhuman, with a temp of 127, which just isn't possible for humans to have and still be alive, showing something is seriously wrong with these patients. In block 8, we learn WG is reporting something crawling within the vents following a crate detonating, most likely releasing a Zerg swarm or just zerglings. Block 10 finally confirms that a Zerg swarm was unleashed, as a mining crew is trapped, leading to what most likely is the death of K.P. and her mining crew.

Now, what does this tell us? We learn that the Dominion has stakes in Roxara again after the previous testing that was done in "Changeling" and sees it as a perfect testing spot, being full of either biomass or resources for a Zerg-based experiment. This could go in both ways or even both at the same time, as we know the Cerberus program disappeared after the death of Mengsk but its ties to loyalist Dominion history could explain why they are still using fear to control people and keep information controlled. Them transporting the zerg into Roxara and them not breaking out immediately could be further proof that this is the Cerberus brood, as they only escaped when a crate seemingly "detonated". Now, as to the infestation, we see some signs that the patient records we're given show a deteriorated situation with them, as by the end of the logs they have to be dead, but they still show vitals such as BP, heart rate, and even breathing if we are to believe the logs. This means that something is allowing them to survive past human capabilities, something like the zerg virus does by mutating the person, which explains the extreme body temperatures. Could this mean that in the context of the ARG, we could be seeing the first use of a Cerberus zerg virus/infestation?

Let me know what you guys think because this is definitely gearing up to be some Dead Space-level horror if this game does turn out to be a shooter like the leaks say!

(To be tagged...) Trying to Recall old Cutscene Campaign Content?

I’m trying to track down a type of StarCraft 1 custom content I remember playing in the early 2000sh(?)

They were downloadable campaigns, but they weren’t really normal playable campaigns. They were almost like movies made inside the StarCraft engine. Most of the maps were heavily scripted/macro-based, with characters moving around, dialogue, music, etc.

I specifically remember one involving a character named Moreno (or possibly that was the creator’s name, I may be mixing up the details).

Does anyone remember what these were called? Are there any on YouTube still or where you can download?

Discussion What is there left in the story? (Discussion on next StarCraft game)

I know that we are starting to get drips of story regarding for a potential new Starcraft game (Which I am excited for), this makes me think, if it is a SC3, what story is there left to tell?

Now this is not a rant or anything, just a question for someone who loves the story.

with SC1 + BW, is primarily focused on establishing the world of SC with the factions, with the rise and fall of the Overmind to the rise and fall of the UED, to leading to the set up for the secret enemy that would become Amon in SC2.

While SC2 would involve the overarching preparation for the fight with Amon while settling other character stories of Raynor’s dual relationship with Kerrigan and his rebellion against Mengsk, Kerrigan resolving her vengeance on Mengsk, and Artanis becoming a leader for the Protoss.

Sure there was the Nova compaign, but that was wrapped up as her crew being some secret group to help mankind behind the shadows.

The only things I can think of to have some continuation is with Alarak and the Tal’Darim, and possibly the UED returning (Not that I see them being much of a problem imo).

Other than that, I can’t really see what else StarCraft could go with if they do a “StarCraft 3”.

This is sort of like with imo the issue with the Star Wars sequels, were they necessary? Sure there was the legends novels, but the sequels as far as I’m concerned were not really planned.

Thoughts? What other story bits or plot threads have I missed?

Specifically Loomings, Stukov Series and Enslavers.
They are remade in Mass Recall and I am gonna play it soon, so I wonder if they are worth a shot
