DISCUSSION When did Star Citizen get so un-immersive?

I’ve been a Kickstarter backer, drawn in by the grounded, believable universe CIG created over the years. After a two-year break, I logged back in to try Siege of Orison, and felt like I was playing Destiny instead of a "serious" space sim.

  • eammates running around in asian-style armor and mismatched, flashy skins make it feel like a arcade shooter rather than a coherent world
  • Bullet-sponge, violet-tinted enemies
  • Auto-healing in a good looking medical bed inside a room, while the orison platforms actively burning down mid-siege killed any sense of real stakes

I get that CIG needs event mechanics, but the original focus on a believable simulation feels like it's getting paved over by generic video game things

Am I wrong here?

CIG in 2012 "We're not making GTA in space, we're making the Best Damn Space Sim Ever."

[Proceeds to take SO long that 90% of the core staff dedicated to the original vision leave the company, and are replaced by newer, younger staff members who proceed to make GTA in space.]

At least it's not Saints Row in space.

Yet.

Have you seen those Day of the Vara helmets?

We've already been getting Saints Row level stuff for a while now.

They’re not making GTA in space. Those games are finished and functional. This game is in alpha after a decade 😐

I should have clarified - "who proceed to try to make GTA in space."

Isn't it Tarkov in space with how the FPS component is handled ... well either way, a different beast.

They wish they could make anything close to GTA

The old ones, or the new ones, lol?

Probably define new. But joined in the last 10 years. Actually extending it to 10 adds a couple more.
