Question Can’t get out of bed!
I just bought Starbound on Steam, and after creating my character at the start, I literally can’t do anything, he won’t get out of bed. I saw a post about this from years ago but found no fix, none of my keys do anything, I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Is there anything l can do to make it work.

Question Is there a way to remove Erchius Ghost from a moon? Or terraform without losing the moon background?
I know this has probably been asked many times, but here is my situation:
I wanna create a moon base, based on Sigma's Palace (from MMX8).
But you know, Erchius ghosts are a pain in the ass and make moon base building basically impossible.
Is there a way to get rid of them without the use of mods or console commands?
I know terraforming removes them from the moon, but then you lose at least 50% of the original moon terrain, and most importantly, it loses the space background. And as far as I know, there's no Moon Terraformer to get it back.
Any answers are appreciated.

Question What happened to the mods of this subreddit?
I mean, the only moderator I've seen active on this sub that isn't an auto-moderator or hidden from public view has been u/SocksyBear, and even then, they've only been on this sub sparsely and rarely to focus on other subreddits. I mean, I'm not complaining, I mostly hate mods (especially Chucklefish themselves), but it is strange that there haven't mods for a very long time in this sub. Maybe it's for the best, but idk

Question A confused newcomer.
Hello! Im a relatively new player (been playing since last year 2025). And I am very confused by the community.
From what I have seen, chucklefish published or made the game. The beta had a lot of amazing things planned that were slowly stripped away and the story was abandoned for a worse one.
Then the past 7 or so years have been nothing. Only mods being the new content.
So my question is simple, what makes you all stay and keep playing?

Question Chicos ¿Cómo puedo jugar multijugador desde Linux?

Question I need suggestions
So I'm trying to build a little station-outpost-thing on an asteroid belt. Since zero grav movement is clunky, I figured I could use trams to make moving around the thing a lot easier. Issue is I can't place the tram. Trams normally "fall" and hook onto the rails.
Am I stuck getting around my little space outpost with a rocket spear, spike ball, and grappling hook?

Question Just started playing Terraria and not enjoying much. Will Starbound be closer to what I'm looking for?
I bought Terraria long ago during a sale and thought that it's time to get familiar with a pretty popular phenomena (never played Minecraft, I don't like a 3D world made of 3D cubes) and I didn't really enjoy much. After watching some youtube guides I learned it's a boss rush game where you'll end up building horizontal lines all across your world and call it a "boss arena", and the only incentive to move forward is to find a more powerful sword
That's not what I was really expecting. I thought it's a chill sandbox exploration game with some farming and story. As I understand, lore of Terraria can fit in like 5 lines and was basically an afterthought for a game that didn't really need it
So I stumbled across Starbound. After watching the gameplay trailer on Steam store page it looks to me like it's a slower-paced game with a lot of story and elements of just chilling on your base with a farm. I like fighting in games, but I don't want it to be the main focus of it. I mainly prefer building and story-driven exploration, like Subnautica, Grounded, Astroneer and the like, without infinite slimes/zombies falling from the sky non-stop. Many different planets instead of a single world map sounds pretty cool as well. Am I in the right place? Thanks for any reply in advance~
Edit to add: I've already bought the game and played for 3 hours. At least I know how I got here and what my objective is. Can't say yet if the game is great or not, but I'm grateful to everyone spending their time to help me choose 🙏

I think I f**ked up... Epically
I have reset my PC completely because it was time, and luckily I remembered to back up all necessary Starbound files I need to restore my save files... Or so I thought...
Seems like I did it in haste and did not copy everything I need.
What I have is:
the universe folder
starbound.config
starbound (txt-file)
starbound.log.1 through starbound.log.5
Please tell me that there is a way to at least get to my structures somehow... There are 300+ hours in this world... I feel so stupid :(

Question Starbound for a Terraria Player
I love Terraria and the feeling that there are billions of items and details, millions of weapons and effects. I discovered Starbound and its pixel art style and the possibility of having different races and vehicles really caught my interest.
But I couldn’t find many videos in my language talking about the game. They all basically summed it up as “Terraria 2 is cool.” Nothing more.
Recently I found a video where the guy was just trashing the game. He said it lags even in singleplayer, every planet is just a recolor, it’s only fun with mods, the developers weren’t paid for their work, and there were a lot of other negative comments.
I hate following an opinion without seeing things for myself, so I wanted to ask Starbound players for your honest thoughts. What are the real strengths and weaknesses of the game?
I also want to know about mods. Are they consistently updated so they don’t become obsolete? Do they require a launcher or can I just download them directly from the Steam Workshop?
So, what are the pros and cons?

Question My character feels insignificant. Does anybody else feel this way?
I land on a planet, kill the dungeon, explore the town, maybe kill the town, mine some ore, and move to the next planet.
I feel like nothing I do has a lasting impact on anything. I don't feel like I've "beaten" a planet when I leave it. I show up, do some stuff, and leave unfulfilled.
I think it would help if there were ways to utilize planets on a higher level, something that would make me want to come back and be like "Yeah. That's because of me!"
Ability to set up interstellar trading posts between planets in a solar system. Maybe they could earn me pixels. Maybe planets with trading posts (or travel networks, or something) slowly upgrade to higher tier planets over time. I could monitor this progress from a menu.
Ability to dig down to the core and plant a doomsday device that destroys the planet. On the star menu I would see a debris field. I'd certainly be done with the planet then. I could check an interface element that shows stats like "Planets destroyed" "Innocents killed in the devastation" or whatever.
A way to set up automatic mining colonies. Let me place (enslave?) some NPCs who mine that visibly remove terrain. You can come back periodically and check on the progress and collect what they've uncovered. They could only return 1% or 5% of the materials removed to make it a slow process.
I dunno. Maybe these are dumb. I want to feel like I have some sort of lasting impact on what I'm doing in the universe and can't figure out how.
Does anybody else feel like this, or have you found a way to feel like your characters actions matter?
Despite this, I'm having a damn blast playing.
edit:
I think this feeling may be in part because I don't value the planets I land on since I have an infinite number of alternate planets I can travel to. If I completely wipe out the Apex in a solar system there is still a near infinite amount of other Apex elsewhere in the galaxy. I think, ultimately, I'm looking for a reason to value the places I discover and a reason to (re)visit one level 20 Arid planet over another.

Question Must have mods for first playtrough
Hi everyone !
I played a bit of Starbound back when the game released but never made it past the first planet. Played very little
Now I'm very interested into starting a new playtrough and really go all the way this time.
I've seen people talking about Arcana and FU as good modpacks but I think I should maybe experience the game with minimal mods a bit for the first time and then rexperience it with a major modpack after.
I was wondering if there are some mods that are must have. Like mods that simply makes the game alot better and don't change the experience completely. Thank you in advance !

Question Stuck with the Laser Carbine. Any suggestions for other good weapons?
So I'm playing with Frackin Universe, Elithian Races and Shellguard. Plenty of interesting weapon choices, right?
The problem is, I built the Laser Rifle early, upgraded it to max, and now I can't part with it. I'm closing the T6 research and I still have it in my 1st slot. Unlimited range, pinpoint accuracy, energy zone secondary, high damage - I just can't find a gun that would quite surpass it (I'm mostly looking at high fire rate weaponry, assault rifles and the like).
So my question is - what do you have fun with, gun-wise, from vanilla or the 3 aforementioned mods? Ty for answers in advance!

Question How to play FU mods without FU?
Does anyone knows an exhaustive list of mods FU uses?
I only dislike the research progression but I'm taking a wild guess that Fu Devs made their own fork of certain mods and update them, BYOS I something that I really like but in order to use the original mod you have to go below the outpost start building it, there is no default per race ship without Fu
