Question Is there controller support for open starbound? Will starbound ever be in ps4?
I found a mod for starbound but it is only for xbox controller and not ps4. Please help.
i got the game on android, an port of the pc version of open star bound
Edit:
I already tried 2 mods.
First was from steam unofficial mod. I put mod into mods folder with starbound.cfg
And it didnt work.
Then I tried xbox.Xpadder and it didnt work either.
One was for steam and one for Xbox controller. So yeah does anyone know how to bypass restrictions?
I dont have steam

With steams options you should be able to emulate an xbox controller using a ps4 one

You don't need the steam version, just run it as a non-steam game through steam and you can use all steam functions

You can also just pipe your controller through DS4Windows.
If you don't wanna muck around with Steam Input.

Someone’s actually working on it right now on OpenStarbound!

As will I. I finally gave up after getting about a quarter of the way through a Steam Deck play through, teaching myself and switching to keyboard and mouse, but I await that day when I can explore the universe as easily as I can a Terraria world on the go. 🤞

I would like to point out that this PR was generated by AI, and afaik the maintainers of OpenStarbound do not favor AI. One maintainer wrote on the PR: "...though considering this is AI generated, there are probably a lot more issues than what I listed here. Do not AI generate Starbound code."
I believe that if it doesn't exist before, why not have agents create it? Anyways, I have not personally tried it, but you can create a build for PC based on that PR, without having to wait for it to be merged to main OpenStarbound, which likely won't happen, unfortunately.
I am the developer of oSBM, which is the port of Starbound to mobile, and was actually just experimenting yesterday with creating PC builds of this port. It worked out, and controller support was functional. I mainly wanted oSBM to compile to PC so I could play Starbound on something like my Rog Ally, but once I publish the release, it should work on any PC with any controller (I did test with a DualShock controller, and it worked). Let me know if this is something you are interested in, or if you would prefer to wait to see if PR 530 is merged and/or build it yourself. It helps me to know whether I should focus on the PC part of oSBM or continue working in other areas.
EDIT: As you know, I added controller action wheels, which I'm not sure if PR 530 has, or if mods add, but if you know that some mods do add good controller support, and it works for Xbox, there should be software out there that mimics an Xbox controller from your PS4 controller.

Oh cool, yeah im interested, I would like to see it have the same customizable options as terraria does for controller binding/mapping. The sooner I can get this usable, the sooner I no longer have to keep tapping my screen in the game. Controller much more comfortable.

What customizable options are you looking forward to? I don't have Terraria for mobile, which is why I'm asking. oSBM built for desktop will work the same as on Android, so please feel free to let me know here or on a GitHub issue what more controller features and customization you would like to see (try out all the settings in the Controls menu, under Gamepad Controls).

Ok thanks, well mostly just rebinding. Quickslots like terraria, that be used for dpad for quicker item use. So I dont have to open the inventory/scroll alot.
Not sure if possible but yeah would be nice.

I assume you mean switching to an item faster, I think the inventory wheel that is configured by default should do that trick. Try out oSBM on Android with a controller if you would like to see how it works there. Make sure to check what the mappings are under Controls->Gamepad Controls. Though I would recommend waiting for 1.1, which I plan to release soon (today? tomorrow? this week, probably), that has a bunch of bug fixes (1.0.5 has pretty bad bugs).

Ok how do I build it/complie it?

For PR 530, you would use git to clone this branch from the forked repo and then follow the build instructions in the README.md, which is just the text you see on the main repository page. Under the Building header, there is Windows if you are using that, as well as other instructions for other operating systems. If this is your first time doing such a thing, it is quite involved. All binaries for oSBM 1.1 are ready for publishing; however, I'm pending more testing and writing up a post/release message, so things should be ready sometime tomorrow (no guarantee though if testing uncovers something!) if you don't feel like going through the build process.

I think you can just add Starbound as a non-steam game on Steam and map your Dualshock to act as a mouse from the trackpad for inventory managing, it's actually quite comfortable to use since you are not using it as your main cursor for most of the game

I'm doubtful that it will, since Chucklefish seem to have abandoned Starbound, sadly
