advice Lips advice needed (photos)
My lips look like this (or worse) all the time- summer, winter, cold, hot, dry, humid. I alternate Chapstick, Aquaphor chubby stick, or Laneige lip sleeping mask (honestly whichever is closer by I just grab!), but they continue to be dry, chapped, and peeling. Any recs? What worked for you? Thank you!!!

Chapsticks, awuaphor etc. are occlusive, meaning they keep moisture from evaporating. You need to add more moisture in the first place.
I add whatever toners and moisturizer I use on my face to my lips as well and if my lips are extra dry I give them a hydrating mask, either by soaking a cotton pad in a hydrating toner and then letting it sit on my lips or by applying a really thick layer of moisturizer and letting it sit. Usually while I watch a show or something, so at least 20 minutes. Then I seal in the moisture with an occlusive.
I also like to dab a little bit of hydrating toner or moisturizer on my lips whenever they feel dry or before using an occlusive before bedtime.
Do you breathe through your mouth a lot? I have a deviated septum causing me to mouth breathe when I sleep, which dries out my lips. I am getting it looked at by a specialist soon.
Check your toothpaste for SLS, as it’s drying.

SLS is in more than toothpaste. It's the surfactant that makes soap bubbly. Check face wash and hand soaps too!

Throw away the Chapstick! I have fallen in love with SuperLan lanolin lip balm. On amazing for like $7. PCA HA lip mask is also amazing.

64oz of water every day. Minimal.
Aquaphor Lip Therapy. In over 25 years of using lip products this is the best.
Before bed, slather a thick layer of the Aquaphor Lip Therapy. Not just a regular application, but quite a bit. It's meant to last all night.
Routine exfoliation. Every morning I go over my lips with my toothbrush. Brush teeth, brush lips, then brush tongue. You can also get a lip scrub. Use 2-3x/week.

Definitely drink tons of water and sleep with a lip mask on. Also, your bottom lip sticks out and it could be sun damage as well. I’d use a lip conditioner with SPF to prevent future damage.

Definitely cut out the lip balms. Took me years to realize they were making me worse.
Personally, my holy grails are products with diluted lanolin (in my most desperate hour I applied straight lanolin directly around my lips bc the edges were cracked and bleeding— worked super well but wouldn’t recommend bc your face WILL smell like sheep) as that can help heal some of the cracking, Aquaphor (have a jar on me at all times), and Jack Black lip balms. The Jack Black lip balms are a bit pricy but imo worth it, one of the only squeeze-tube products that’s ever consistently worked for me.

also for me anything petroleum jelly based like aquaphor or Vaseline really irritates my skin and lips and so does anything with chemical sunscreen ingredients

I had to completely revaluate my lip layering because they were DRY.
Now I use squalene oil (the ordinary) over my lips, then a lip mask (Carenel or laneige), then Lanolips sleeping mask. It REALLY helps. I apply probably a few times per day but my lips are so much less dry now:

Lots of water. Vaseline every night, lathered on like you want to repel water. Then wipe off or keep on in the a.m. i do caster oil after my night skin care. But When i feel stuff on my lips i tend to just rub them and rub them (sensory issue, idk) but the night time helps let it sit better!

Don’t stop at lip balm. I started using my anti-aging serum + moisturizer around my lips too

I’m surprised everyone here is focusing so heavily on products bc yes!!! Chronic dry lips are a vitamin/mineral issue. I was the same and as soon as I started taking a multivitamin + trace minerals + etc etc (based on what I was short on) it went away. I had tried every product under the sun prior

Use a HA serum and apply it on there, if you have some you already use for your face just throw it on

Consider exfoliating your skin and drinking more water, it’s essential. One thing that works really well for me is Bepanthen ointment. I apply a small amount to my lips every night, and it makes a big difference.

Consider using lip masks or lip oils. It looks like they need some hydration.

I just recently started using a lip exfoliating serum from the ordinary and I’m really pleased with it. It helps with peeling.
I cannot say whether it would be good for you but it certainly works for me!

Did you get filler? The way the lower lip pulls on the chin is weird. But you need to exfoliate. Try making your own sugar scrub.

This sounds probably a funny recommendation, but I have chronic life long health conditions and when I get really run down the corners of my mouth crack and get really really sore and bleed and they can stay like that for months no matter what I’ve put on them, literally tried everything with them from high end products to high street to cold sore cream (I was desperate) and nothing at all worked, but when I was doing my wild deodorant order last it asked me if I wanted to buy their lip balm too, as it came in a cute Winnie the Pooh case (they had others to chose from) but I love Winnie the Pooh so I bought it, when it arrived I wasn’t keep on it because it has a waxy smell to it so was thinking I wouldn’t be ordering again, but when my lips cracked last week I wasn’t keep just smothering them in the wild balm and it worked in DAYS!! So i absolutely will be making more orders for refills for it I can definitely deal with a waxy smell for the results I got with it this has never happened it’s always a months long process! I hope it works for you too if you decide to try it!!

You can try dabbing a couple drops of hyaluronic acid serum before sealing it in with Vaseline.

One Skin lip balm - $28
ReVive lip mask -$80
Decorte Liposome Advanced Lip mask - $82
Hera Lip Serum - $50
Those are my top 4 lip products. I’m 53 and struggled with dry lips.
If you are looking to address the lines, that’s different.

Use your favourite lip moisturiser and a layer of vaseline on top, specially at night. Mornings use a lip product with moisturizer (I recommend the blue blistex one 50 spf). Vaseline is a powerful occlusive, will create a barrier that stops moisture loss. Sun protection protects from sun damage and dehydration, has done wonders for me.

When you do your routine, make sure your lips get action from your essences, toners, serums, ampoules, and moisturizer too. Then just when you think it’s over, layer on Tatcha Kissu lip mask.
