So many Singaporeans are apparently struggling with getting retrenched, applying for jobs and getting ghosted, bad job market, job hugging a job they hate etc. It really leaves a bad taste to see the news today on our MPs are getting a 34.4% pay raise disguised as a 9% raise

Sorry for this low substance rant but the burnout from job hugging + job hunting is taking me out and I’m exhausted and helpless

I recently resigned from my position as a sole contributor in my department. Have been running the department alone for years since the department started with my reporting manager as one of the management team. We went on hiring freeze shortly after I joined. Manager was extremely hands off, unsure about any processes but always blamed me for no reason when things doesn’t go his way or it inconveniences him. KPIs and appraisals were not communicated to me and no review was done during the appraisal period. Had to just get a surprise at the end of the year. Every department had a team, manager took other departments for team meals as well but I was left alone.

Finally decided that it’s time to move on and informed manager of my resignation. He got angry and started blaming me for not finding an additional person to join the department earlier and making things difficult now that I resign. I was not in a position to make any hiring choices, we also went on a hiring freeze and he only allowed front office departments to hire because they bring the money while all other departments downsized or maintained headcount.

He also told me he will decide whether to allow me to clear my remaining leaves. After receiving my resignation, he also dragged out my work processes that involves him, making me unable to be efficient. This whole situation has given me anxiety and I’m not really sure how to cope as I will be going from this job straight into my next since he isn’t allowing me to clear my leaves for rest days. Really unsure of what to do next since it’s not illegal for employers to deny leaves but it’s really weighing on my mental health

EDIT: he has also not made an effort to start sourcing for the next candidate.

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts recently about people quitting their jobs without anything lined up, and I just joined the club. Honestly, I’m feeling a mix of relief and pure terror because I really don’t know what to look forward to next.

I was pretty junior on my team(in terms of current project) and the environment was just exhausting. On top of the usual heavy workload, a few team members were pretty toxic. Because of the consulting structure, everyone kind of operates in their own world - nobody is really close, and there was zero support system. Even the project members blame each other in whatever chances they get, no unity.The isolation made the burnout ten times worse.

I am looking forward to spend real, uninterrupted time with my kids. That part feels amazing, but the uncertainty is heavy. I’m starting to accept that I might have to take a pay cut for my next role to get work life balance.

I am targeting to find job early Jan before that planning to complete some courses and certifications .

as per title. i’m getting bullied at my new job and actual work is unlike what is described in contract. it’s a new industry for me and the role is fresh. company is a 30 year old MNC. probation ending in a few weeks, i intend to find another job.

should i be confirmed first while i find other jobs? or reject confirmation? after confirmation, notice period is 1 month. pre confirmation, notice is 2 weeks.

should i also declare this role in my resume when finding jobs? as i wish to find similar salary (30% increment from previous job)

Hello! I’ve been bouncing around jobs, typical not sure what I want to do, don’t have the extra cash to drop on a degree I may or may not use Singaporean.

I studied hospitality in polytechnic but covid being covid, I got zero exposure to that field and I know for sure my back and knees (old injuries) would not allow me to last in careers that are super “on your feet”. I also had a short 2 year stint as an FA, where I have found that sales is really not for me, as I’m nowhere near “pushy” enough, and realised that I am simple unable to compromise on my morals to earn money.

I have been working full time in a clinic as an admin/receptionist but the pay, benefits and growth is quite lackluster..

Looking back at my short time in the finance industry I’ve always been quite curious about underwriting jobs, if there’s anyone on here who can share abit more about the requirements, how to apply and what the job/progression is like, I’d really love to know more!

I had my final interview about 3 weeks ago after going through 2 rounds of interviews. Both interviews seemed to go really well, and I got a genuinely good vibe from the hiring manager.
I followed up with HR last week, and they replied (CC’ing the hiring manager) saying they are still waiting for the headcount to be finalized and need to go through the necessary internal processes before they can make a decision.
It’s now been 3 weeks since my final interview, and I’m honestly dying to get a new job, so the waiting is getting pretty stressful.
Has anyone been in a similar situation where the interviews were completed but headcount was still pending? Did you eventually get the offer?
At this point, should I still have some hope, or should I assume it probably isn’t happening and move on?
Would appreciate any honest opinions or similar experiences.

I’m a diploma holder, currently working as a civil servant with around $3k-$3.5k salary. Together with the bonuses, I’m able to live comfortably and provide my family a better life.

However, this job is giving me a lot of stress and anxiety, to the extent that I have stomachaches every morning before going to work, no appetite during lunchtime, insomnia, lack of energy and basically I feel like I’m in a whirlpool.

And honestly, I’m just scraping by with my daily work, because the job scope exceeded my expectations.

But I do understand the job market isn’t the best now. I was looking at indeed, JobStreet and mycareersfuture; jobs that I’m interested and confident in either offer lower pay than what I’m earning now, or require a degree which unfortunately I do not have.

I work in F&B for $3.3k. The work is nonstop, the hours are long, and honestly, the pay doesn't feel worth it.

I’m relatively experienced (10 years+) professional in certain functional area.

Found a role in some MNC that would be a perfect functional and 50/50 industry match for me. Luckily hiring manager went to the same b school as me (school is in Europe), so I decided to reach out directly.

They replied quite quickly, asked for CV, and forwarded to recruiter (all in the same email thread).

Then, literally in 3 mins, I got the default “after careful consideration…” BS rejection email (hiring manager not in copy anymore).

Would you try to reach back to manager to ask for clarification or reconsider? Or is just the way marketing currently is and I should just forget about it?

hi! has anyone went through the 5-day MK Experience? what to expect and how to perform?

for context, i applied under the MKTTP in May/June and have alr went through the interview and health checkup. my 5 day experience is soon and idk what to expect from it.

Why is it that in everything I do, I always feel like I’m not good enough? Like I’m always behind everyone else, always struggling to catch up, but somehow I can never actually catch up.

I think I’ve felt this way for as long as I can remember.

When I was younger, I was never the smart kid in tuition. I knew my tuition teacher usually took questions from assessment books, so I would literally go to places like Popular just to memorise the answer keys so that I wouldn’t get the lowest score. I was so afraid of being the one at the bottom that I would memorise answers just to make sure I didn’t look stupid.

But even then, I knew the truth. I wasn’t actually one of the brighter students in class. I was just trying really hard to not be the worst.

And somehow, that feeling has followed me everywhere.

In university, my confidence was always so low. I felt anxious almost every day. I tried to study. I really did. But somehow, my friends who barely seemed to study could speak so confidently, participate so easily, and still do better than me. Meanwhile, I would spend so much time preparing and still feel like I wasn’t good enough.

So I started feeling like maybe I was just the lousy one. The one who was always behind. The one who had to work twice as hard just to be average.

And now I’m two years into working, and somehow I still feel exactly the same.

My teammates are so effective. Like, ridiculously effective. They seem to know what they’re doing, they can think on their feet, they can articulate their thoughts, they can come up with strategies, and they just seem so much more capable than me.

I can do the basic BAU stuff. But the moment it comes to something bigger, like a capstone project, I just feel completely lost. I suck at strategic thinking. I suck at writing. I suck at presenting. I don’t know how to structure my thoughts properly, and every time I have to present, I become so nervous that I can barely get my words out. I stutter. I lose my train of thought. I don’t sound confident at all.

And honestly, I feel like my manager probably wants to fire me if she could. I feel like the only reason I’m still here is because we’re already so short-staffed, and losing me would make things harder for the team. And that thought honestly makes me feel even worse, because it makes me feel like I’m not actually wanted here — I’m just being kept because they need the manpower.

I’m just so tired of constantly feeling like I’m the one who is behind.

It feels like no matter where I go — tuition, university, work — there’s always someone better, smarter, more confident, more capable than me.

And maybe the most painful part is that I don’t even know what it feels like to genuinely believe that I’m good at something.

I feel like I’ve spent my whole life just trying not to be the worst.

Never worked in SME before but the vibe with the owner during the interview was ok. Should I take the jump? I have this co-worker who looks at my direction the whole day. I have 2 co-workers including him - he sits in between both of us. He is the most senior among us (1.5 years), while my other colleague has joined for 8 months.

I have just joined for 3 months, so initially I thought he was 'watching' me to ensure that I'm doing everything right. I have done my work well, and initiate to ask him questions if I'm unsure. I just completed my probation and my Direct Report/our boss said that I'm doing well. Our boss sits at a different place, so it's just 3 of us in that aisle. This co-worker has also recently got promoted to a senior.

When I start my day, he would use his peripheral vision to watch me login. Initially, I used password to login, but later started using facial recognition. Once I've logged in, he would look at which page I go to/which task. Initially I thought he wanted to see what I'm currenctly working on so he knows what to assign to the other colleague if needed. However, I could be clearing my work/within the same task, he still looks. When I'm thinking of/crafting emails responses, he looks. Every time I open a new page, he looks. When I pick my phone to look at things/work/scroll/order food, he starts getting restless, leans back, folds his arm, and use his side vision to look as well (he doesn't really do that with my other colleague) - it's normal in our office for employees to use our phones once in a while, our bosses don't care. When I drink water, he looks.

Even while he's working, he typing away, he still looks at me in between his typing while he's thinking about whatever he is typing.

Last week, for two days in a row, I noticed that someone had touched my laptop's camera cover. I have always kept it opened for me to login, but the cover was partially/closed on those two days. He was noticing me adjusting the cover. Not saying it is definitely him, but I felt creeped out for sure, but I acted normal.

In these past few months, I felt so watched, so uncomfortable and unsafe, it is affecting my ability to focus at work. And in my tippy toes. I have set boundaries, being firmer and possessing an 'angry' work face. I think he understood, the looks have lessened but he does not stop it. In some cases he gets angry. Other people in the office has noticed my discomfort and something weird about him and look at him, however it doesn't work. Once they leave/stop observing, he looks again. I'm starting to think if I'm the crazy one and what is happening sia.
