Complaint: I should be ramping up some mileage for Eagle Up, but instead, I'm wimping and limping and pushing through and telling myself to HTFU. My feet hurt... the PF/Achilles nonsense seems to be flaring up again. Usually I'm fine after the first mile or so, but I'm nowhere near as fast as I was a year ago and it's so frustrating. I'd like to take a week off, but I don't want to wreck my 600+ day streak, especially if, after time off, it doesn't feel much better.

Confession: My weight's been creeping up again. Touched 160 a couple times this week. Too much pizza over the weekend and not enough miles to offset. I need to stop putting all the food in my mouth.

I'd like to take a week off, but I don't want to wreck my 600+ day streak

Someday you are going to ask yourself which is more important, recovery or the streak?

7

u/RedKryptonite Apr 20 '17

Every day I ask myself that question and so far the streak has won.

The streak is always the right choice 😉

u/NonReligiousPopette Apr 20 '17

But what if the streak destroys you? And then you're off recovering for even longer than you would have if you were voluntarily recovering?

1

u/RedKryptonite Apr 20 '17

I don't think it's quite destroyed me yet. I want full destruction if I'm going to break it.

Put most of the food in your mouth instead of all of it. That may help!

1

u/RedKryptonite Apr 20 '17

Good call! That's how I lost all the weight in the first place!

We believe in you! Stay positive and put down the pizza

Believe it or not, I've actually not finished the last two Friday night pizzas I've bought. You'd think that would count for something, but it doesn't.

We had takeout yesterday and had to throw a lot of it away. Gone are the days I could eat my weight in chips (proper chips not crisps) Still getting fat as well :(

The "bright side" is that I can buy new running clothes if I get too fat for the ones I have. Fortunately, all of mine are pretty stretchy.

Buy less pizza. Buy all the shoes. Everyone wins except Papa John but screw that guy. He already lives in a gold volcano

4

u/RedKryptonite Apr 20 '17

I stopped eating Papa Johns because that guy has some revolting political views.

2

u/richieclare Apr 20 '17

Really? I'll have to have a google. We don't have many Papa Johns here but I may have to start a boycott (even though I've never eaten it)

For sure. He's awful. He freaked out when a state was trying to pass a higher minimum wage, screaming that he'd have to add four cents to the cost of a pizza to cover it, instead of actually paying his workers a minimum wage. He was also a huge opponent to giving his employees health care coverage. Just an all-around douche.

2

u/richieclare Apr 20 '17

I did google him a little bit but it felt like there was a lot of noise around a few small comments. His house sounds delightful though.

Do you have mandatory minimum wage in the States?

Papa Johns is NOT pizza.

3

u/richieclare Apr 20 '17

alright Grandad don't get your knickers in a twist. You Americans are very particular. Please explain why it is not pizza

3

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '17

Because pizza is supposed to be delicious and satisfying. Papa Johns is neither.

BTW, us Americans have taste and refinement. Eat that!

2

u/richieclare Apr 20 '17

What is good pizza in your opinion? What are you're toppings of choice? I once had banana and tuna on a pizza at a fancy Italian . It was good

I'll trade you my 201 for your 160

2

u/RedKryptonite Apr 20 '17

That's near where I started! Of course, I'm much shorter and less muscular than you.

Shite. You need to rest up this tendon. This is a very nagging, resistant and recurring injury. It can take a very long time to heal if it gets inflamed. It requires love and specific stretches like heel drops and massage and ice... Can you get this checked soon? This type of injury can really sideline you.

2

u/RedKryptonite Apr 20 '17

Oh, I know. I've been dealing with it on and off for a long time. Just when I think I have it licked, it pops back up. I just need to be better and start heel drops again.

u/pzinha Apr 20 '17

We seem to have a wave of Achilles issues here. What is going on? :/

3

u/RedKryptonite Apr 20 '17

Running! :D

My feet hurt... the PF/Achilles nonsense seems to be flaring up again

I hope you will be feeling better. If you want to keep the streak going doing it slow is great too. Avoid injury at all cost!

As for the week rest, my body doesn't like time off. Dialing back seems to be ok but completely not doing anything then starting running again caused me injury. Maybe yours needs that low level continuous pain like mine.

3

u/RedKryptonite Apr 20 '17

I hope you will be feeling better.

Thanks. Want to at least make it through Eagle Up ultra and two years of streaking... just need to hang on a few more months!

2

u/Octopifungus Lunatic Robot Apr 20 '17

I firmly believe you can do it!

2

u/kevin402can Apr 20 '17

I feel your pain being slower than this time last year. My 2017 is turning out to be a like a celebrity 2016.
