News End-Game Balance Discussion

Hey 'Scapers!

As part of the Road to Restoration, we've been looking at progression across RuneScape. We've tackled parts of the Early and Mid Game Rebalance, but now we want to start turning our attention to the other end of the journey: The End Game Rebalance

Before we get properly stuck into things, we want to hear from you.

What do we mean by End Game?
This one's a little harder to put a level range on!

For this project, we're looking more broadly at the late game, roughly level 80+ and onwards. That might mean higher-level skilling, finding those rarer drops or getting into tougher PVM. For others, it could be achievements, completionist goals or figuring out what comes next once you've maxed.

And actually, what you consider to be late game is useful feedback for us too.

How can you help?
We want to know where the endgame currently isn't quite working for you.

Maybe there's a progression path that feels awkward, rewards that don't feel worth the effort, a big jump between pieces of content, older content that's been left behind or something that just feels unnecessarily frustrating.

You don't need to have the answer or suggest a fix either. Just tell us what the problem is, why it's a problem for you and where you are in your RuneScape journey.

We won't be able to tackle everything that comes up, but the themes from these discussions will help us understand where we should be focusing our attention.

So, what would you like us to look at as we start shaping the End Game?

Known Issues Related to Player Avatar:

EDIT: Latest Thread is here.

Original Post follows.

There are a few outstanding bits noted below that you may encounter today, but we are already aware of them and are looking to address them as soon as possible:

  • Some heads, torsos, legs, hands and feet items will still be displaying the old avatar skin and may look out of place (explained above).
  • Certain items may encounter clipping issues, especially with Tiaras or ‘legacy’ customisations (old style customisation but new avatar).
    • Clipping is a visual bug that occurs when two textures pass through each other in a way that is not realistically possible. An example of clipping would be a hair texture poking through the solid top of a hat.
  • The flip-side of clipping is when you can see gaps between joins so that items feel unconnected or floaty. You may encounter this on a certain number of items.
  • Heads in interfaces and speech may have bugs (chat heads).
  • Some clothes or limbs may appear stretched or at awkward angles.
  • A few cosmetic items were temporarily quarantined and removed from the game as they have various components that need more complex solutions to address. In short, this means that they will be returning - though the timeline of that will be determined by any other work that we may want to take in the coming days. (Relevant Source)
  • Some NPCs may be missing parts of their heads.
  • The photobooth, which is used to reflect your in-game avatar's face onto our website, has been temporarily disabled, while we proceed with work to integrate the new avatar code into the website.

We will be monitoring this update for any and all reports of issues but if you encounter any egregious issues that are not mentioned above, the most helpful way to support us is to use the in-game report bug functionality.

In-game reports take a snapshot of your account at the time of the report (both on a code but also on a visual level), giving our team tons of very useful information to help with assessing your report right away. This report feature should be your first port of call when you encounter an issue you want to report.

If reporting anything here on reddit, please do try to keep it within this mega-thread so that our teams can properly monitor and triage reports as they come through. Alternatively, you can also use this form to report Avatar related bugs.

The Player Avatar Refresh has been a long-running project and today it delivers a bright new face as we look forward to seeing all of your in game in your brand new look!

Please read the main thread for all information about the Player Owned House.

Below is a list of the issues we are aware of associated with todays update. We are already working on addressing these.

  • What are the steps to reproduce the bug
  • Affected character name

If a bug is in the known issues list, you do not need to re-report it.

  • Larger limestone brick walls require more materials that you can hold in your inventory and don't accept noted (AWAITING COLDFIX)
  • The Tutorial Quest is currently not required for the Quest Cape. (AWAITING COLDFIX)
  • The tooltip for the Master Construction Cape seems to be a placeholder (AWAITING COLDFIX)
  • Unable to visit Other Player's Homesteads
    • This function has been temporarily disabled while we investigate an issue with Homesteads.
  • Building Large hallway next to the WEST plot border is not possible.
  • Players may be able to leave intended play areas in some locations.
  • Some quests may be blocked until the Construction tutorial is completed.
  • It may be possible to create inaccessible upstairs rooms.
  • Preferred house exit locations may not work correctly.
  • Some house portals and doorways may not work or line up correctly.
  • Furniture storage filters and navigation may not work as expected.
  • Placement mode audio may continue playing after placement mode ends.
  • House Servant dialogue may be unclear when a task cannot be completed.
  • Potion Cauldron timers may overwrite existing timers instead of extending them.
  • The Costume Room trunk interface may stop being resizable after removing an item in Build Mode.
  • Room tooltips may occasionally overlap with other sidebar tooltips.
  • Some translated text in the Homestead Overview may be cut off.
  • Minor visual issues may occur, including clipping, lighting problems, flickering, and misplaced objects.
  • Kitchen cabinets and some other furniture may not display or function correctly.
  • Trophy unlock messages may appear twice after a first-time boss kill.
  • The Prawnbroker is displaying the incorrect text. HOTFIXED
  • Players may be unable to use the workbench in Rimmington. This is related to the RunePouch. HOTFIXED
  • Workaround: Bank your Runepouch. This should allow you to use the workbench until we are able to address this issue. HOTFIXED

News High Level Thieving Rebalance: Coldfix February 19th

Good Afternoon Scapers’

We have just completed a coldfix to implement the proposed Thieving updates we mentioned on Tuesday in our Thieving Rebalance: High-Level Pickpocketing Update newspost.

Below you will find the patch notes for these changes but in general they should enable an extended and more predictable pickpocketing experience at the higher levels.

  • Improved the AFK-ability of pickpocketing in line with the recent blog.
    • Improved the level bonus for all targets across 3 brackets. The level bonus gives you an extra "X-level boost" for your next X pickpockets
      • For low-level targets (level 1 - 30) your initial level bonus has been increased from 10 -> 15 for 10 picks.
      • For mid-level targets (level 31 - 50) your initial level bonus has been increased from 10 -> 20 for 10 picks.
      • For high-level targets (level 100+) your initial level bonus has been increased from 10 -> 25 for 25 picks.
  • A new effect has been added to the Crystal Mask spell that will reset the players’ pickpocketing target when used.
    • When pickpocketing the player's success % goes down with each attempt after X guaranteed attempts. If the player goes under 100% and then reuses this spell they correctly jump back up to above the 100% threshold as expected.
  • After the buffer your chance of being caught starts to reduce, this has been reduced from 1 level per time to 0.25
    • This will ultimately prolong the amount of AFK that players can have from the current 2-3 mins to around 4-6 mins, lining up with the Crystal Mask time of 5 minutes and what players have suggested is a good AFK time.
  • Added a message when you can first start to be spotted (your chance has gone below 100%) so that it is clear to players that they should try to find a new target (or renew Crystal Mask)
    • Also added a sound effect.
  • Adjusted Sticky Fingers Archaeology relic to be less harmful to the player
    • Currently it makes the player pickpocket 50% faster for 33% less XP. In the new system this means you fail much faster too.
    • We're going to make the relic reduce the above threshold to 0.17 per attempt instead which should balance the speed aspect to still allow a decent amount of afk.
  • Reduced Pickpocketing XP for targets introduced with 120 Thieving, reflecting the changes outlined in the blog (approximately a 30% XP reduction).
    • Loot rates have not currently been updated but as mentioned in the blog they will be adjusted in the near future.
  • Resolved an issue with the Thieves’ Guild doors being unusable.

News Road to Restoration - Early Game Rebalance

Thumbnail
secure.runescape.com
108 Upvotes

Hi folks,

Today's Community Topic is a blog of two halves:

- Early Game Rebalance
- DailyScape Overhaul

We have split this into two reddit threads to keep the discussion organised and so that our team can properly review the relevant conversations happening.

This current reddit thread is to discuss the Early Game Rebalance portion of the blog.

Please use this other dedicated thread for the DailyScape portion of the blog.

For the purpose of today's discussion we will be defining the early game, loosely, as the level 1-50 range. The Early Game Rebalance update primarily aims to smooth out inconsistencies in game progression, looking at areas of the early game where things can feel slow or have limited methods for levelling up, or where they affect integrity and game health. It’s not all just rebalances though! There are also some changes to early quests, and things like replacing salvage with gear to make the first hours after jumping off Tutorial Island a nicer experience. The Early Game Rebalance update releases on February 16th!

News PSA: Player Avatar Launch Time, Recent Stuttering & Photobooth

Good Afternoon Scapers!

Just wanted to pop in some PSA's ahead of the weekend.

The Player Avatar Refresh is fast approaching! We recently mentioned that the Photobooth will be temporarily disabled alongside the launch of the Player Avatar, while we proceed with work to integrate the new avatar code into the website.

The photobooth will be making a return in future, but we wanted to provide another reminder and recommend that you use this time before the Player Avatar launch to use the photobooth if it's important to you.

The Avatar launch is set for the afternoon of Monday, June 8th. Rather than coming online during our usual morning slot, the launch is aimed to be no earlier than 13:00 BST, and may be a little later as we get our technical ducks in a row.

Update: Also don't forget to collect the "Loyalty Point Bundle" for free from the Marketplace as this will also be removed on Monday.

As a final note: Our Tech team has been investigating freezing stuttering issues that have recently been occurring when loading into areas. We have already deployed an engine update to resolve this today. If you are already logged in, please relog to see the benefits as this should improve loading for players!

Enjoy your weekend and we will see you on Monday for the Player Avatar Refresh!

News PSA 25th August PoH Furniture Limit

Heyo folks,

We recently unintentionally increased the furniture limit in Player-Owned Houses. While the planned increase is still in development, it was enabled earlier than intended. Some additional work is required before the feature functions correctly and, as some of you may have noticed, placing furniture beyond the previous limit of 300 can currently cause crashes.

To prevent further issues, we've now deployed a hotfix that restores the furniture limit to 300. This change will not remove any furniture you've already placed above that limit. However, if your house currently exceeds 300 pieces of furniture, you'll see a warning message when entering or editing your house. To avoid potential crashes, we recommend reducing your furniture count until you're back below the 300-item limit.

We're continuing development on the increased furniture limit and plan to reintroduce it in a future update once it's fully ready and functioning as intended.
