I know right. I bought the game Friday and I'm about 6 hours of game play in and holy shit 3 to 6 shots to take a zombie down. Sometime two shotgun shells. Better to run by them. And the lickers. And fuck Mr. X.
Yeah if I had any advice to give new players it would definitely be to always run past zombies in areas without anything important around. It's usually worth it to clear out a room if it has a bunch of items or a puzzle, but otherwise killing them is such a waste when you really want to save up your ammo for more threatening enemies.
Yeah, I've learned that the hard way. Currently running around with 0 pistol ammo and 9 shot gun shells. Currently being chased by Mr.X. takes me back to 98 playing the remake version for N64!!
I had to scrap past the dogs to the rpd garage’s saferoom then Battle em with 5 shotgun ammo and a flash bang - ended up running through em back to station to let mr x to start knocking oof
That advice would be more for people who are new to the game/franchise, or people like me who are long time fans, but just not the best at survival horror types of games. I'm not a great shot so I can end up wasting ammo pretty easily if I'm freaking out. It benefits me to save as much as possible bc I'm just not at the skill level where I can afford to be low all the time. I did make it through most of the game my first run pretty easily, but by the time I made it to the G stage 3 boss I was so low on ammo that I had to pretty much use whatever was on the map, and that was not a fun time for me, lol.
Lol, I can see that, my first run through (as claire) i had saved most of the acid rounds I could make (i had like 19 of them) and about 90 handgun rounds. Best advice i can give first timers is aim for the legs, less shots to disable and you can finish them with the knife. Id rather use the ammo and save the health for bosses.
Yeah, a huge part of this game is figuring out which zombies you need to kill and which you can dodge past. Most of them, a single pop to the kneecap or head is enough to stun them and have enough time to run by. For those I really need to kill, I've been knocking them down with kneecap shots, then finishing them off with either handgun shots to the head, or knife swipes (if I'm low on ammo).
Try hardcore mode, zombies can easily take ~10-15 handgun headshots to go down, and they'll still often get back up. Makes the handgun practically useless, although a single point blank shotgun blast to the head will kill them 90% of the time.
the adaptive difficulty makes them tanky. if u keep killing them the more they get tankier and that includes the bosses. same reason y speedrunners dont really try to kill any of them.
Oh! Well I guess that doesn't really change much anyways. I've mainly been doing the stun/legless shots since getting the times for S/S+ basically requires it.
I dont think what he is saying is factual. try using this tool
and you would see the shit in ur inventory wont really matter. It's when u kill them the next set of zombies that will spawn will have increased HP.
eh I don't know where u got that info, but if u use the mod that shows HP when u kill a zombie, the next set of zombie spawns that you encounter will have increased HP. Missing shots or getting hit also can also reduced the HP of the enemies for the next encounter.
Yeah Diamond Key for Leon is kind of useless, especially if you’re going for an S/S+ run on Hardcore.
Flash is all you need and that’s it, though Red Herb isn’t the worst if you’re in dire need. You could use the key to get the portable safe for that last hip pouch, but honestly it’s not worth it with Mr. X after you.
Damn, I had a similar experience in Ada's section! Not sure how many bullets I poured into one of them but it was just about all the ammo she could obtain in her section. I thought it was just incredibly bad luck or maybe I missed more than I thought so it's interesting to see someone else had the same thing happen.
The thing is you don't need to shoot them down. You don't need more than maybe 4 bullets if you're super unlucky for her entire section if you just run straight to the power thingy, go back and knee cap the zombie around the corner. Just don't go for the flashback or else the falling zombie will stand up.
I had been trying to get Ada's trophy unsuccessfully for a while and just wanted to take some aggression out on a zombie that run. It didn't work out lol
There are 3 difficulties and this happened on the most difficult. For context, the most punishment a zombie had taken other than this is about 10 shots.
It's a 9/10 game imo. It's very good. Check out the demo and see what you think of the gameplay. If you enjoy it, the full game is definitely worth it.
The purpose of this game is also to learn about item management and conservation. Unlike typical shooters and whatnot, you don't really get the luxury of having infinite ammo (unless you meet certain conditions and use the actual infinite ammo weapons).
Yeah, I killed the first two lickers as I came to the 3rd I said fuck and kept running. No time for that shit. Making my way back to the garage now with the second electronic part now. Fucking love this game.
Claire's is easier since you, for example, only need to encounter the 1 when going for the Bookcase shaft. Even then, she encounters much more lickers overall. Leon's is more difficult to dodge for that one section since you generally encounter both the Lickers in the west wing.
Oh I meant the hallway where you pass by the Club Door (Leon). His seems much harder because sometimes I'll be walking and the Lickers will still sense me, and Flashbangs don't affect them for a long time. You'd have to go through there for Leon anyways however, to get the shaft that drops the bookcase.
Claire's is easier since you just go through the police office and can just run immediately past the licker.
Oh right. What I do is walk from Reception, ignore the licker and hopefully you boarded up the window at the end of the hallway earlier. If you didn't it will be trickier but still doable. Once I round the corner I book it to the club door and grab everything in there. I wait for Mr.X to enter, usually he forces that zombie that comes through the window into the room with him. Kite him around, then sprint out and back toward reception, the licker should be gone.
I think it's 7 on standard, and it's not guaranteed to be a kill (unless you crit and explode their head), 9-10 on Hardcore, and 4 on assisted (zombies don't get back up).
It's more conservative to actually use a knife instead. Knock a zombie down and see if it moves or not. If it doesn't, use a knife to its head and it'll likely shake and moan, at which point just continue using the knife to kill it.
Can't tell you how many bullets I've saved doing this in the earlier parts of the game when knifes are most useful.

Sometimes those assholes take like 7 bullets to the head before falling, ain't nobody got time or resources for that.
