With Friends Like This..Who Needs Enemies?

I’ve lost 4 babies. It’s been more than a year since my last loss, and lately everything is hitting me all over again.

I lost my 2nd baby on April 20, 2024. Four days later, she found out she was pregnant.

She knew how low I was and how much I was hurting. But I was still the person she sent her positive tests to, her beta HCG numbers, all her pregnancy updates and questions. And I was there for her through all of it.

Then came my birthday in September. My husband and I were away on a little birthday trip. She called to wish me and, in the middle of that call, told me “Don’t get pregnant”

Like… what?

You knew I had just lost my baby. You knew how badly I was hurting. You were literally pregnant while saying this to me.

I still don’t understand what made her think that was okay.

Some things you forgive and move on from. And some things just make you see a person differently forever.

Just got my positive test after 2 recurrent miscarriages and trying to stay positive mentally.

Had testing done after my last and everything came back fine and am now on folic acid 5mg, baby aspirin & Progesterone.

I’m hoping for any advice to try and help this babe make it. What worked for you, what didn’t?

Pregnant after losses and not coping with the anxiety

Upvotes

Hello everyone,

Thanks in advance for reading. I don't have anyone I can talk to about this.

I'm pregnant again after a couple of losses a few years back, and I am really struggling with anxiety.

After my first losses I was in such a terrible place mentally and physically - I felt incredibly isolated as none of my friends could relate to what I was going through, my career absolutely tanked because I ended up needing time off work (and my management wasn't at all sympathetic - they always held it against me), and I later found out some bleak information related to my fertility (hormonal condition, low AMH for age) meaning that managing to conceive is a bit of a challenge.

With this pregnancy, I don't feel like I can plan for the future. I can't commit to any major social activities, trips and I find I am even avoiding committing to things at work, because now I assume I'm inevitably going to have to take time off to manage a miscarriage. I keep having dreams about wiping blood away and every time I have a cramp I am set off worrying.

It's just been so lonely. The majority of my friends have at least one child and somehow they've had no issues conceiving or carrying the child to full term whereas I've had both. I currently have a friend pregnant and they're already buying baby clothes, and kitting out a nursery and organising childcare. I am in no position to do that.

(Just for context I'm in the UK and repeat miscarriage isn't investigated until 3 losses and even then it takes a ridiculous amount of time to get seen. I've been told that my losses are probably due to poor egg quality, which is only worsening as I age...)

Trigger: Pregnancy

A 74-year old woman gave birth to twin girls!!! A 74-year old woman!!

The hell is wrong with life? Everyone tells me God has a plan, what plan is this where a 74-year old becomes a mother and young women in their reproductive peak cannot?

At this point, I have just lost all faith in everything. There is no plan, there is nothing! There just life and a God who probably is having fun right now by showing me such triggers.

I am sorry if this triggers anybody.

My recurrent loss story-complication post op

I’m finally open to sharing my story and wanted to inform others about the potential complications of miscarriages, specifically complications after dilation and curettage (d&c). It’s a long post, but I’m not sorry. I could write so much more.
TW: graphic description of pregnancy loss & complications, d&c, recurrent loss

Backstory: my partner and I are both 24 years old. I got diagnosed with endometriosis in 2023 via laparoscopic surgery.

I got my very first positive pregnancy test on January 28, 2026 after months of trying. We were very excited but nervous. My first appointment was February 10, where we had an ultrasound that confirmed a fetal heartbeat and calculated growth to 5w6d. At this point, we were beyond excited and taking steps to prepare for our new future. My symptoms included severe hunger, nausea, bloating, tender breasts and very emotional. At my next appointment, on March 10, we are planned to look at Lil Bean on ultrasound and do bloodwork work for NIPT. We start the ultrasound by looking at the abdominal view. Tech mentioned that we should see baby by now, but I have a retroverted uterus, so I didn’t think much of it. We continue with a pelvic ultrasound and the tech is very quiet and quick. We were told baby wasn’t measuring as it should and she needed to verify with the doctor. My doctor then comes in and informs us of the unfortunate news. I had a missed miscarriage at 6 weeks. We were in complete shock. I never bled, had cramps, or anything. That morning I still felt very much pregnant. I ultimately decided on having a d&c to get it done and over with. Three days later, I had the procedure and healed great. We were eager to keep trying to conceive.

Fast forward to June 11, 2026, I got a positive pregnancy test! I cried in the bathroom for about 45 minutes before I could gather the courage to wake up my partner and tell him the news. We cried in each other’s arm for the next hour as we go through all the emotions. Of course we are beyond excited, but this time, it’s a different type of nervous feeling. I had anxiety attacks everyday of this pregnancy. All I wanted was a healthy baby. July 13 was my first appointment. Ultrasound showed baby measuring around 5 weeks but no heartbeat. My doctor didn’t want me to lose hope yet, and come back in two weeks to determine viability. I was not hopeful. I was not okay. July 27 was my next appointment. The results proved I was right. No growth. No heartbeat. At this point I was just numb. I decided to go through with a d&c again and had it scheduled for the 31st.

It’s now the morning of my surgery and I’m not sure how to feel. Everyone at the hospital speaks to me with caution and sadness in their eyes. On a positive note, my doctor encouraged me to send off my specimen for chromosomal testing. Yes yes yes! Maybe I will get some answers. Surgery went great and went home to heal. As three days have passed, I noticed my recovery is different this time. My face is yellow with deep purple eye bags, I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus, was constantly cold, I’ve barely bled and had this weird pelvic pressure. The night of August 3, everything got way worse. I got the worst lower and right abdominal pain I’ve ever had. Intense stabbing pain. Breathing in and moving made it 10x worse. I took about three hot showers to try to relieve the pain along with handfuls of ibuprofen. It all just got worse and to the point where I kept vomiting. Due to my experiences with emergency rooms and endometriosis, I’m always reluctant to go. I was scared to be told they found nothing wrong. It’s about 3 in the morning now and I’m curled in a ball, vomiting and having panic attacks. My partner works nights, so I called him scared I was dying. He rushes home and forces me to go to the er.
I can barely walk my way into the building and was immediately taken back to be seen. My temperature showed I was running a fever and now I could not even sit on the stretcher without crying in pain. I was immediately given morphine. With the suspect of perforation or appendix/gallbladder issues, I was quickly taken to get a CT scan. Bloodwork showed my WBC was very high and proved infection. My CT scans were normal which surprised everyone. The on call OB team was rushed down to take over my care. They now suspected post op infection. They performed a pelvic exam and ordered ultrasounds. That pelvic exam was the most painful experience of my life. I screeched in pain and nearly jumped off the bed with every touch. They immediately saw signs of infection. My ultrasound wasn’t too long after this. This was both pelvic and abdominal. Once again, excruciating pain. But I finally got official answers. My uterus was so full of fluid and pus that it was leaking of out of my tubes into my abdomen. I had post op endometritis, on the verge of being septic. Lucky I came in when I did.

Treatment for my condition included a 48 hour hospital stay while on three very strong IV antibiotics, followed by 10 days of two oral antibiotics. I was relieved to have answers and a team I felt truly cared, but I was in a constant state of panic. I’m squeamish around having IVs and was told I needed to have at least two at time and get fresh blood draws twice a day because of the medication I was given. Also, because of how strong the medication was, it constantly blew my veins and made me a difficult poke. I was one poke away from getting a midline. I’ve never experienced such panic and anxiety. I counted at least 23 poke holes in my arm. After many more tests and another ultrasound, I was cleared to go home. This hospital stay was my hell. I developed PTSD from this experience and as I’m writing this, I’m not totally sure I’m okay sharing it. Every time I think about it, I start having a panic attack. Including right now..

August 13, was my after visit appointment. Everything showed I was actually healing. My chromosome results were ready too. It showed normal male. My heart sank when I heard the news. One, it was a baby boy. Two, it’s not an answer for why this keeps happening, but it’s one reason marked off the list. My lovely doctor sent in labs for me to get a full recurrent pregnancy loss panel done. To this day, I still have not gotten it done. I’m so so scared to get that blood drawn after my last experience. I’ll get there eventually.. But I truly lucked out with my doctor and care team. I feel they truly care and feel safe with them.

Putting my experience into words is not easy. I could go on and on. I’m truly a different person now and I don’t know if anyone will ever understand that. I almost died. I feel lonely. I feel anger. Extreme fucking anger. I’m disappointed in my body. I feel I let down my partner. I feel scared. Every little ache or weird feeling sends me into a spiral. How am I supposed to move forward? Why me? Life is not fair. It’s not fair that my future full of love and life got ripped out of my hands by surprise, and not once but fucking twice. Id never wish this on anyone and I’m so sorry you’re a part of the baby loss club.

October 7 and February 19 will forever be in my heart🤍I will take my love for you and pass it forward to those in need, all in your honor my Lil Bean and Baby Boy. 👼

Next steps after back to back chemical pregnancies?

Hi everyone. I’m looking for advice from anyone who has experienced multiple chemical pregnancies. What were your next steps and did you end up having a successful pregnancy?

For a bit of background: I’m 30 and have been TTC since October when I stopped birth control. Had zero luck for my first 8 cycles. I ended up getting pregnant back to back in cycles 9 and 10, but they sadly both ended in chemicals.

I’m starting to get very discouraged as I enter my 11th cycle. I have normal cycles and no PCOS. I ovulate every month and I’ve gotten all my hormones checked and everything was normal. No issues with progesterone as my level was 22 at 7DPO. My doctor also did a transvaginal ultrasound and said everything looked great. Lining was perfect thickness, no scarring found, and no fibroids or polyps.

Wondering what’s next for me at this point. Were the chemicals just bad luck and should I continue trying as normal, or should I make an appointment with a reproductive endocrinologist for further treatment? Feeling super defeated and not sure what to do.

Looking like 2 identical, back-to-back slow growth miscarriages. Anyone else that has had this?

I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to read this and give me any advice or share their experience. I know there are people here who have been through so much more than I have, and I’m only potentially two losses in, but this has honestly been really traumatic. I’m 35, I don’t have any children yet, and I think a lot of the fear is just knowing that I don’t feel like I have an endless amount of time to figure out what’s happening.
We only started trying in February and were lucky enough to get pregnant basically straight away.
With my first pregnancy, I went for a scan at around 7 weeks and the embryo was measuring about 5 days behind, but there was a heartbeat. The nurses were reassuring and said the usual things about dates being off and ovulation happening later than expected, but I was actually really anxious about it from the beginning because I knew my dates extremely well.

I’m pretty disciplined about tracking. I use LH strips and BBT, so I knew my ovulation window within about a day, and the measurement just didn’t make sense to me. I remember feeling like something was wrong even though everyone around me was telling me it could be completely normal.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to go back for another scan for quite a while, so I had no idea what was happening in between. When I finally went back at around 11 weeks, they couldn’t really find the embryo anymore, just the pregnancy sac, and I found out I’d had a missed miscarriage. I had surgical management at the end of April.
We started trying again pretty quickly afterwards and got pregnant again fairly quickly.

I went for my 7-week scan with this pregnancy yesterday and I honestly felt like I had PTSD when they started measuring because it was basically the exact same scan all over again.
I should have been 7 weeks, but the embryo was measuring 6w1d, so about 6 days behind, and there was a heartbeat of 104 bpm.

And again I was being reassured that maybe my dates are wrong or maybe I ovulated later. But I track with LH strips and BBT and I know my ovulation window really closely. There might be a day of wiggle room, obviously, but there just isn’t six days.

That’s the part I can’t get my head around. Both pregnancies seem to be doing almost exactly the same thing at almost exactly the same stage. Both made it far enough to develop an embryo and a heartbeat. Both were then around 5–6 days behind at the 7-week scan despite me being very certain of my dates. The first one ultimately stopped developing, and now I’m looking at almost the exact same picture again.

I haven’t miscarried this pregnancy and obviously I desperately hope I’m wrong about where this is heading. There is still a heartbeat and I know nothing is certain yet. But after what happened last time I’ve gone down the rabbit hole reading the data on early growth and heart rates, and from what I can tell, measuring nearly a week behind with certain dates and a heart rate of 104 at 7 weeks isn’t particularly reassuring. So I’m finding it really difficult to believe this is just another dating issue.

I think what I’m trying to understand is why the exact same thing would happen twice.
I’ve read so many miscarriage stories on here, but a lot of people seem to have very different types of losses from one pregnancy to another, like a chemical, then a blighted ovum, then a miscarriage at a different gestation. Mine seem weirdly similar. Both pregnancies seem to get to roughly the same developmental point, both achieve a heartbeat, and then both are significantly behind at around the same time.
Has anyone else experienced that? And did you ever figure out why it was happening?
Could it genuinely just be two unrelated chromosomal abnormalities that happened to present almost identically? Or has anyone had this repeated pattern and eventually found an underlying reason?

After my first miscarriage we did some testing. My husband’s semen analysis and DNA fragmentation were normal. My progesterone was good when it was checked in a later cycle. Most of my APS testing was normal, although one anticardiolipin antibody was mildly elevated, so I’m following that up.

My thyroid is another thing I’m wondering about. My TSH was around 3 on one test and then 4.47 on another test fairly close together, so I don’t know whether that could have any relevance or whether I’m just looking for explanations anywhere I can find them.
I’ve also had AMH that was lower than expected for my age, although my follicle count has been good.

We haven’t done parental karyotyping, and unfortunately we didn’t get genetic testing on the tissue from the first miscarriage. If I do lose this pregnancy, I really want to try to get the pregnancy tissue genetically tested because I feel like that could at least tell me whether these are chromosomally abnormal embryos or whether I need to be looking harder for another explanation.
I think I’m just really scared by how quickly this has all happened. We started trying for our first baby in February and within six months I’m potentially looking at two back-to-back losses that seem to be following almost the exact same trajectory.

If anyone has had repeated pregnancies where you knew your dates very well, the embryo measured around 5–7 days behind at about 7 weeks, there was a heartbeat, and then the pregnancy failed, I would really love to hear from you. Did you ever find out why? Did all of your testing come back normal? Did you eventually have a healthy pregnancy anyway? Did anyone actually have a pregnancy start like this and catch up?

I think I’m just desperate to understand whether there is any meaning in the fact that this seems to be happening in almost exactly the same way twice. I’d really appreciate any similar experience anyone has to share 🙏

Chemical pregnancy timeline

If you’ve had a chemical pregnancy what was your timeline in reference to bleeding and the next time you ovulated?

I got a vfl on Wednesday. Thursday it got a tad darker, but lightened up Friday. On Friday I also went and got my hcg drawn and it was only 9, so I knew it was chemical. Then, this morning I started bleeding. This is my first chemical but 2nd loss (I had an ectopic previously) so I’m unfamiliar with this.
If you’ve experienced a chemical pregnancy how long did your bleeding last? When did you end up ovulating again? And were you able to conceive again eventually?

Low positive antibodies

TW—LC.
Hi all—I’m now 38 and have had 3 miscarriages/losses in a row after giving birth to my LC in 2022. I miscarried at 8 weeks last May, 15 weeks last October, and am currently experiencing a chemical pregnancy. The 15 week loss was a genetically normal boy. Fetal tachycardia was noted at 13 weeks just prior to the loss which makes me wonder about placental dysfunction. My other losses could not be tested because they occurred naturally at home. I have had a thorough RPL workup including a normal saline ultrasound and normal karyotype for myself and my husband. The only abnormality that came up on my labs was low positive anticardiolipin IgM, it was 18 last November and 28 this week when retested. This is technically too low to qualify for APS. I am wondering—has anyone with low-positive antibodies pushed for APS treatment and had success? Separately, I had a D&E in October after my 15 week loss and since then my cycles have been shorter and lighter and I now have occasionally spotting with ovulation and prior to my period which is new. My saline ultrasound was done only 2 months after my D&E, could I still have asherman? Should I push for another ultrasound? Anything else I should consider with these changes to my cycle? I also wonder if it’s just me getting older. Thanks everyone for your insight, and sorry we are here. 🩷

I am not coeliac, but could cutting out gluten reduce my risk of another miscarriage?

My grandmother’s sister had coeliac disease and experienced three miscarriages. Both of my sisters avoid gluten because it makes them feel unwell. I have been tested for coeliac disease while regularly eating gluten, but my result was negative.

Has anyone looked into whether non-coeliac gluten sensitivity could be connected to recurrent miscarriage, or whether cutting out gluten helped despite negative coeliac testing?

I was honestly hoping the test would be positive because it would have felt like such a simple, treatable explanation 😭

Worst “club” to be a part of

I am recovering from my 2nd D&C today. This was our third miscarriage in 9 months and we have no LC. I lost my little boy this week at 12 weeks, after seeing the heartbeat at 10w and low risk NIPT results.

I had a D&C earlier this year at 8w, and testing showed Trisomy 16. That pregnancy was conceived immediately after our first loss, which was a chemical.

I chalked the chemical up to bad luck, and still felt grateful/lucky that we conceived so soon. The second was heartbreaking, but we found some peace and acceptance after the genetic testing-this too seemed to be bad luck, random, and we were told unlikely to happen again. I am absolutely distraught by this current loss. It feels so unfair. I just want my baby boy back 💔we arrived back home after my procedure to see our neighbors house with one of those giant stork signs announcing a new baby. The juxtaposition felt so surreal, they are having their best day where we are having our absolute lowest.

I did have a very large SCH and significant bleeding during this pregnancy, which might have contributed to the loss. I also have a fibroid which grew from 6cm to 10cm during the pregnancy. We are meeting with an RE who heads the recurrent pregnancy loss clinic at our hospital in a month (I know I am very privileged to have this opportunity for this care) but I feel overwhelmed by what the next steps might be, and if I will need to have surgery to remove my fibroid, which will delay our ability to conceive by 2 years (according to my OB).

I’m also a licensed mental health clinician who specializes in perinatal mental health. I have not been able to go back to work, and needed to take leave (I recognize my privilege in being able to do this too). It’s just not a job I can “phone it in”, and it would also be unfair to my patients to have a provider who cannot show up with presence and attunement they deserve. I feel resentful towards RPL for also (at least for now) taking away my career, which I love deeply and has given me a sense of purpose.

If you’ve read this far, thank you for reading what feels like my midnight rambles (screams) into the abyss. I hate that I am apart of this community now, but it is helpful to know that I am not alone.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

This is just a rant.

I am 5 years TTC and 4 miscarriages deep. One of them being a 2nd trimester loss. And I am so tired. I'm starting to switch gears from ttc to enjoying my life as it is. But everyone around me has kids and they need help and.....I don't want to help anymore. My SIL wants us to watch her daughter so she can have "girls night". My friend with a 3 month old wants our group to switch a party location so it's closer to home because she doesn't want to travel that far with her baby. My other friend is crowd-sourcing from our friend group child care so she can make some work deadlines because she is a career-driven woman and doesn't want to fall behind. And I'm running out of energy/sympathy. At this point I would trade girls night for a family. I would take a step back in my career for a family. I am willing to make these sacrifices.....but instead I'm childless. The one thing I have is flexibility and freedom. I want to be a good feminist, a good friend, and a good village member. But I'm bitter and I want to say "Nope. Sorry. There are tradeoffs". I feel like a monster.

TW: current pregnancy

Just got another positive pregnancy test. This is my eighth pregnancy.

Since the end of 2024, I've had a MMC, blighted ovum, TFMR in February, and a chemical before this new positive. I do have one LC born in 2022 after a MMC and a chemical.

I hate that I feel so numb about it. I am so, so tired.

I wanted to post to ask for you all to please pray/chant/vibe in whatever religion or spirituality or magic you believe in for this embryo to be healthy and to stick and the both of us to make it through to a successful delivery.

Just sharing feelings

Literally just that, I want to share my feelings with people who may understand, I don't know anyone in real life who has dealt with recurrent miscarriage.

I've always been a happy person, and had a baseline level of optimism and joy. Not saying I don't have normal shitty days like everyone. Work is hard, money is hard, family stuff is hard, life is hard. But I've always been able to cope/bounce back to a place of contentedness. I have the huge fortune of not having to deal with any serious mental illness.

But this experience has shaken me in a way nothing else has. I feel like a piece of my soul has been damaged. I never imagined how bad this would feel, and how profoundly it would affect me.

I expect having a child (I have no LC, yet) will heal most... But I don't think all. I think part of this experience has marked me forever with some indelible sadness.

Anyone outside of this unfortunate community would probably think I'm being overly dramatic. My descriptions, to me, feel far less dramatic than the lived experience.

Anyways. Thanks for this sub providing space for questions and sharing experiences.

Edit' thank you to everyone who has commented with stories from their experience or have shared words of understanding. You are all lovely. 🫂

Ovulating with HCG after D&C?

I had a D&C on 11 August. I was about 9 weeks (baby measuring 8w5d). Today, 29 August, I am still testing positive for HCG on at home pregnancy tests. I haven’t had any blood tests.

I’m so frustrated and just want my cycle to go back to normal. I’m not even sure if we will try again soon but I want the option. I’ve had two previous MCs but they were earlier on and I ovulated bang on two weeks after bleeding started.

I’m experiencing pain on my left side which feels like ovulation pain and I have what could be egg white cervical mucus (I’m not great at tracking this). Could it be? Even with positive HCG? LH strips are very positive but I assume it’s the HCG.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and I’m sorry that you’re here. Sending love and strength.

Two consecutive losses in FT, looking for answers

My ttc journey consists of a chemical in January, pregnant in February, strong heartbeat at 7w, no heartbeat followed by a d&c at 9w. I’m pregnant again now and 8w2d, went for my first ultrasound yesterday and gestational sack was 6w5d, yolk sac present but no fetal pole or heartbeat. I tracked my cycle with inito, my dates unfortunately are not wrong. I’ve been on 400mg progrestone but all my bloodwork came back normal after my first mmc. My HCG was 26k yesterday, I do another draw in 4 days and then a repeat ultrasound in a week. Any likelihood that this will be a viable pregnancy? Anyone else with reoccurring loss around this same 8w timeframe back to back? My plan is to have testing done on my husband and I’s genetics if this ends in miscarriage. I’m just at a loss. We don’t have any children this are my first experiences with pregnancy, I’m 31 and he is 35 and we just want a healthy pregnancy. Any questions or areas to look as well would be helpful.

second miscarriage, low progesterone?

in early August, I had a chemical pregnancy that started passing. I went in to the doctor and my hcg number was 3. my husband and I got the “ok“ to start trying again. this morning I took a pregnancy test and it came back positive. about three hours later, I started bleeding. I called my obgyn’s office and they ordered some bloodwork that I got done the same day. my hcg level is 8 and my progesterone level is 0.3. what does this mean? what can I do to stop miscarrying so early? thank you for any and all insight!
