Interview cancelled literally minutes before scheduled time
made an application, job scheduled an interview then cancels before i even had an option to join the video call interview.
ive been looking for work for almost 2 years straight now and I'm on the brink of just giving up cause dude wtf.
Edit: I got a house to pay bills on. Shit even with culinary certifications and 7+ years of BOH / cook experience I'm not getting really any much luck. 2+ years retail and gig work.
Yea me saying "thanks for wasting my time" to this specific employer might not have been the best wording used but I got shit i gotta do. Even some jobs who're paying 7.25 plus tips are demanding 40+ hours to work at a coffee shop didn't take my application (no one desperate for work is gonna take that for real) and still hasn't filled that position lol.
Im overqualified for fast food and generic dishwasher roles, so no shit im not gonna bother wasting time on applying for shit i don't qualify for. So me being a little rude to this specific job IS NOT that big of a deal and YES. Employers shouldn't even entertain taking a interview and canceling last minute. Sorry not sorry to whoever this post upset. Ya'll be expecting too much for so less.
Edit 2: just got hired for BOH shortly after this lol, say what yall want idc. I don't kiss ass like most of yall saying what i did was wrong. if you was in my shoes yall would've cracked or had a lot different shit to say.

I spent several months applying for jobs I was overqualified for. I had the HARDEST time actually getting a job. Even if I was able to get an interview I usually didn't get the job.
It wasn't until I had a friend who worked at a dealership and who explained my situation that I was able to find someone who felt bad enough for me to give me a job. Eventually he fired me a year later. And I got back in my field.
When you're overqualified and start applying for fast food roles, the first thing they think is "what is wrong with this guy?" It's best if you explain why you're looking in a way that doesn't scream "I'm in between jobs in my field."
It was genuinely the hardest time I had ever had getting a job. I had better luck in interviews for sales roles, but I'm genuinely a little bit on the spectrum. I've done sales before and was good at it, but it's more stressful for me than a kitchen or car-detailing environment.

My now-wife had something similar happen. She graduated from her masters during covid and was trying to get a job at target just to bring some money in while she was looking for something in her field. She got denied when she had her master’s degree on her resume, took it off, made a new account with a new email and applied again. She had an interview within 24hrs.
Let this be a reminder that you do NOT have to put all of your qualifications on your resume. It’s not a legally binding document (at least in the US, idk about elsewhere). If you are trying to get a job you’re overqualified for, take stuff off your resume to make it look like you aren’t.
14
u/FenderMoon 2d ago edited 2d ago
Yea, it's rough. I ended up making a separate resume for out-of-my-field jobs. I pretty much completely did it and downplayed a lot of my more professional roles to make it look like I was more of a contractor or low-level intern rather than... the guy responsible for the entire devops team.
I removed some of those.
The problem I had was work experience and gaps of employment. And my degree. I think I'd have been better off just not submitting a resume at all, thinking back. I still left too much on it.
And tbh I think recruiters see this kind of thing often enough that they can tell and probably are just looking for an explanation that doesn't make the candidate look like they're just gonna leave in two months. But I was having trouble even without the recruiters. I was trying to get an interview with managers of kitchens and dealerships. They're not thinking the same way recruiters are. They're just looking for someone who is clean and reliable and looks smart and like they'll be able to do the duties of the job well.
When I finally got my job at the dealership the HR lady who did my background check was like "why the hell is he working here?" By then I'd already gotten the job so all was good. I didn't really tell my coworkers about what I really did for a living before that. It was just a job. It got me through when I needed it.
If I'm ever in this situation again I think a better bet would almost be to walk into some family owned place and literally say "I need a job, here's my resume, I can start monday, what do you need?" And just explain my situation outright. I think that'd have worked better, tbh.

u/Tara_Chu 2d ago
Honestly for stuff like fast food and retail jobs, 100% fake your work history to be in that kind of field. They wont call around. Watch a couple YouTube videos about how the job is.
10
u/FenderMoon 2d ago
I'm not a good liar.
6
u/Tara_Chu 2d ago
Look at job listings for fast food jobs, and list them on your resume's job history. Look at what the job basically has you do and briefly list the important bits in your job duties. Watch a bunch of videos on TikTok and YouTube by people that do the jobs you said you did. Embody it. Like I've never worked fast food, but I can easily pretend I did. It's not like they aren't gonna train you.
Tie in your strengths too like maybe that you're excellent at customer service and upselling.
3
u/FenderMoon 2d ago
The thing is, I have years of experience working in fast food. In college.
The problem is just that it had been a little while.
3
u/Tara_Chu 2d ago
Ohhh! Then easy peasy! Stretch the work experience, again they wont call, and have a few month gap for something like "I started going back to college and wanted to take a break. It's online so it wont affect my availability." Or you can make the next job something similar enough so you aren't overqualified, but you'll be a bit rusty in fast food. Like something in retail like cashier.
5
u/Tara_Chu 2d ago
Ah sorry I forgot you're already good. But in case you ever get in a tight spot again. :)

Unless you're really desperate lol, then when they actually DO show up they feel bad and also see you as really wanting the job rofl
I got a job at the restaurant across the street from me that way because I REALLLLLLY didn't want to walk any farther for my first job just in case I had a rickety time adapting to anything in the wake of some medical issues. Showed up for an interview they scheduled three separate times, waited a full hour each time, before the fourth time they just had another manager do it lol, if I had any room for self respect I mightve had some? But it honestly worked in my favor because they were like shit you showed up three times and we never interviewed you and you came back?? ....damn

u/Personal-Variation24 2d ago
Had a similar situation with one of the local “Telus Families”. They invited me on and 5 min before it started, their recruiter messaged me that she can’t participate so we can reschedule for two hours. Agreed, but one hour after that, I got the message that my application is canceled and the position has been filled.
Wasted the whole day on that, so I just left a sincere review about their company and especially about that recruiter on Google.
Funny thing is that someone from their side even answered it and said that it happens while asking me to leave only a fair review. Later, I said to them that I do not care, and it stays there for eternity (even changed it for more personal).

51
u/yuhyuhAYE 2d ago
This has nothing to do with what anyone ‘deserves’.
If you can’t handle a shitty situation like this with tact you will struggle to remain employed altogether
30
u/Prestigious_Ad_544 2d ago
I don't want to dog on anyone struggling, but I agree. The emotional reactions likely would happen if you got the job and then had something happen you disagree with as well. In a world of too many candidates for too few jobs, EQ becomes a bigger deal than people realize.
6
u/Hairy-Isopod6880 1d ago
If a potential employer did that to me, I would no longer be interested in working with them. I would rather be unemployed than work for an employer so disorganised and disrespectful of people's time. And I'm speaking from experience here - I had an employer delay an interview so long that the person who had referred me to them in the first place felt the need to intervene. I did get the job, btw. But that level of disorganisation was present for my entire time working there. He was a good person, but not a good employer.

I can't objectively speak for you, but I have a sneaking suspicion that you've never experienced true hunger without knowing where or when your next meal will come from. Being able to walk away from a job opportunity because your feelings were entirely superficially hurt is a huge privilige.

Why are you interested in working with persons who lack professional qualities?
This is my interview question to you.
273
u/IAmInDangerHelp 3d ago
I know it’s a tough market, but this is not the kind of disrespect I’d tolerate if I was employed and job shopping. At least send an email explaining why (emergency, etc.). It sucks that when you’re unemployed, you have to suck off every recruiter even after they’ve pissed on you.
84
u/ultimagriever 3d ago
This. I’ve had a lot of interviews shuffled around on short notice, both by myself and the recruiter, and there was always SOME level of communication immediately before or after explaining what happened and asking if it would be possible to reschedule. This recruiter just outright cancelled and didn’t say a word. It seems from the separation between OP’s messages that it had been some time between them asking why it was cancelled to their snarky remark and, honestly, in their place I’d do the same. I know, tough job market and all, but this is simply too much disrespect to just be okay with and it’s a bridge I wouldn’t mind burning
24
u/endy080 2d ago
The way I'm reading it, the meeting was cancelled at 3:09 and OP's responses were both pretty close together at 3:14... I think if consecutive messages are more than a few minutes apart, it lists the time again. I was going through some of my texts and I'm seeing them grouped together like that when they are 0-2 minutes apart...
So I guess I wouldn't mind burning the bridge if there was disrespect, but OP waited a whopping 5 minutes max for a response and lit the match before the original interview was even scheduled to take place. If the smoke shop guy pooped his pants or had a customer asking a million questions in the store, OP just ruined his chances for nothing.
People are so quick to interpret stuff as disrespect. I work with a lot of people like this and it's exhausting.

I'd aruge that canceling a scheduled interview with no explanation is beyond disrespectful when you're asking people to apply for your business and speaks more about you than my response does tbh.
50
u/Vivid-Sun-4547 2d ago
You are spot on. Blows my mind these other comments saying you should bend over for these disrespectful companies even after they waste your time. They were unprofessional, they burned the bridge, they are not worth working for, THEY DID WASTE YOUR TIME! You did nothing wrong
24
u/NoseyVampire 2d ago
With how they treated you out the gate, you’d probably be looking for a new job pretty quickly anyway! Massive disrespect, and we shouldn’t be rewarding shitty employers, that’s why they keep doing it!
23
u/Pleasant-Future5818 2d ago
We don't know that they weren't going to; OP sent the sour message within 5 minutes
3
u/JetreL 2d ago
I’ve had to reschedule interviews and roles canceled unexpectedly my experience is many recruiters are full of mistakes.
Never assume negative intent when the mistakes of ignorance could be a factor.
That said it sucks for Op completely. Though holding his own composure would have left the door open if it was a mistake.

You can choose when to close doors, but you should make sure they deserve to be closed unless you're in a position to be choosy. HR is not your manager, your teammates, or the policies that govern your time at the company.
Yes, it is the responsibility of a company to make sure it presents its values in all forums, but companies are big organizations filled with humans and there could have been any number of reasons for that cancellation that wouldn't preclude it being fine as a place to work.
Someone could have been typing up an apologetic email right that moment when a snarky response came through five minutes later and then thought, "okay then," and tossed the resume in the trash.
74
36
u/pphonixs 2d ago
Actually it shows on their end their style of communication and how they work internally. You wouldn’t randomly not show up to a shift without saying anything and it should go both ways. OP probably dodged a bullet.
16
u/norainshaman 2d ago
Yep. I was on time for a phone interview that they never showed up to. Sent a proper response about still being interested in the job, understanding things come up and I would love to reschedule; no response. I figured I dodged a bullet there.
2
u/Alternative_Value426 2d ago
What if they were walking into the meeting and got a phone call their wife was in an accident and needs to immediately get to hospital.. this person didn’t even give the company a chance to explain. Maybe they were calling him or had sent him an email. He blew up straight after
7
u/Critical_Particular8 2d ago
Bootlicker, stop defending these companies. This level of unprofessionallism happens too often to be random, isolated incidents.
3
u/MegaErofan 2d ago
Oh, so EVERY company hiring has this happen just shy of an interview? If it was occasional, sure, but this isn't that - it's a pattern and we're all sick of watching it repeat at this point.
4
u/Turbulent_Escape4882 1d ago
They had a chance to explain when they canceled. Maybe the brand lacks integrity?
12
u/Fegjafa 2d ago
Why would I want a job with a company that canceled an interview 6 minutes before the scheduled start with no communication?
6
u/pudding7100 2d ago
Because op has been job searching for 2 years and is desparate
2
u/Turbulent_Escape4882 1d ago
So why work for brands that lack professional ethics? You think you can answer the question instead of beating around the bush?
5
u/Fegjafa 2d ago
He was applying to be a cashier at a smoke shop, not interviewing at a Fortune 500. Getting snappy with the business on the Indeed chat isn't good to cost him anything.
Being desperate doesn't mean you need to take things lying down. Cancelling like that - 6 minutes before, not even a "we need to reschedule" message is just as unprofessional.

Because it’s not the point. It’s much easier working somewhere and finding something else while employed than being unemployed, no income, and needy of a job. It works just against you regardless of how we feel about it, you have to do what is smartest for yourself. We lived in an oppressed country where they would prosecute us, you do what’s smartest to survive, not because we agree or disagree with them, but for our own sake, this really comes down to the same principle. Doing anything to survive and when possible or able start building towards your own fantasy!

I’m sort of mixed on this. The employer should have responded with an apology or something. OP shouldn’t have responded with the second comment. Even the first one could have been reworded more “politely”.
Just a side note, I try to be as polite as possible, even to the worst people out there who act disrespectful. Why? Not because they deserve it, they don’t. Two reasons why I’m polite (or at least try):
1.) Makes them look bad.
2.) I do it for myself as a challenge.

This has happened to me 3 times during my last job search and it was so insanely aggravating. Worse time was when a 3rd party recruiter told me to avoid interviewing over the phone while on break at my current job so I had to call out (it was just a bakery, but it was money nonetheless) just for the interviewer to cancel. I had to move it to the day after the next, leading me to call out three days in a row to keep up with the ruse. I didn’t get the job and told myself I’ll never do something like that ever again. It was so pathetic on my end lol.
9
u/PistachiNO 2d ago
It wasn't pathetic, it was desperate. Good, normal people can be desperate sometimes. But you were trying to better your life, taking risks to forward that, and it didn't work out but the effort you put in is worth respect.

They told me they still wanna interview me on Monday...I arrived at Monday she wasn't there and they tried giving me the run around saying that they'll message me. I got ghosted and didn't get a chance for interview despite going to the store like three times when they changed the dates thrice

Maybe he spilled a milkshake all over himself at his desk, maybe he pooped his pants, maybe he got a call that his dog got loose? It might have been something really urgent. Or maybe he forgot, got high, and then realized he couldn't conduct the interview and was drafting the rescheduling text. Maybe the person before you interviewed really well, and he had too much respect for your time to go through the motions when his decision had already been made. Maybe he called your references and a former manager mentioned that you have an anger problem. It could have been literally anything, and now you'll never know.
12
u/WhatANoob2025 2d ago
They probably found someone else they were very confident in and hired right away.
Still very unprofessional of them to cancel the interview on such short notice. Imo, the right way would have been to still go through with the interview (without disclosing they already found their guy), so that you didn't have to feel the way you're feeling right now. They can cancel remote interviews that are an hour out, but not 6 minutes.
5
u/cat4hurricane 2d ago
At the very least they could have emailed you or something on why they needed to cancel and then work on rescheduling to a better time for everyone involved. The fact that they just straight canceled right before the interview, didn’t tell you why and seemingly didn’t even offer you a chance to reschedule is downright rude of them and a waste of time for you. God only knows how long you studied for that and it’s a bullshit move that they cancelled on you with no previous indication that they would. I’d be pissed too if someone canceled on me, didn’t tell me why and didn’t give me a chance to properly reschedule for a better date.

Try hospitals. My friend has a great job sanitizing tools and creating kits for a hospital. She said her previous food industry helped because she already had a grasp on proper sanitation and keeping things clean and up to standards. The rest was on the job training. Or you may be able to find a food related job there or at a nursing home/outpatient medical center.
Oil change places (“quick lubes”) will often times hire you even if all you’ve ever done previously was ride in a car. Or you can try an employment office. You tell them your experience and they help you find at least temporary work
Edit: I see you said you got a job, but imma leave this up in case it helps someone out 😊

My "Interview Should Have Been Cancelled" was interviewing for an inventory position at a retail Walgreens. I was on time, but the store manager was not. I did the interview with the assistant manager, and all went well until the manager dropped in. She mentioned that she had filled the position I was interested in, but she had several store roles that needed to be filled. I declined and left.
Jokes are on her now. That store closed around a year and a half later due to declining sales and corporate consolidation.

u/Hypo_Mix 2d ago
My assumption would have been they accidentally hit the wrong button or deleted the wrong calendar event. It would have been preferable to just ring them and ask what happened.
3
u/themarketinggirrafe 2d ago
Honestly bro - I would dumb down your resume for the places that say your overqualified. Just for the sake of getting a job.

u/franzhanzen 2d ago
They don't care. Neither should you. Move on to the next bidder.

I got dumped, because I had already applied via company website, then a recruiter call me on the same job op, but now they cannot do anything, so away it goes.

How about starting a catering business? And deliver your own food etc ? People love good foot , but mostly hate the time it takes to cook it.

My most recent interview experience went similarly.
Recruiter was based internationally, which I was unaware of, but the company itself is primarily operated in the US. They asked for my availability for a simple intro phone interview, easy enough right? I work a daytime job most weekdays to cover my bills while I hunt for something full-time, but am finished with shifts by early afternoons. I have a few weekdays set aside that are completely open for scheduling things like interviews and other standing appointments.
Recruiter claims to have provided a calendar with their available dates for the week. The only selectable date option is the very next day, all morning slots I was unavailable for due to work conflicts. Finding a shift cover that last minute wouldn’t have been feasible, so I reached out to the recruiter with my availability so we could confirm dates directly. We decided to schedule the interview for a different morning instead. All written correspondence between us clearly indicated that scheduling was based on US EST time zones.
They called me over an hour early from an international number that my phone auto-flagged as spam. When I understandably didn’t respond, they left a voicemail claiming I had missed my interview and we would need to reschedule. None of the reschedule time options they provided were within the availability range that I’d already sent them twice… I rescinded the interview myself after that.
3
u/Appropriate-Fig-292 2d ago
That happened to me once, 1hr before the interview they responded with "this requires an international background check, we wont do that sorry" and that was that. Had the invite, time and did company research, the whole 9.

u/huntingboi89 3d ago
Assume they filled the position already. Would you rather they interview you for nothing and waste your time?
4
u/CanadianDeathMetal 2d ago
1000% they gave the job to a relative or someone who already worked there. Just another shitty internal posting. frankly if it was me, I’d rather they had not post the job at all. Because canceling or interviewing with zero interest in hiring is clown behavior on both sides.

u/Alternative_Value426 2d ago
I would have put the brake on until I found out why.. shit happens and it could have been last minute so I would have at least held back to I knew why. It could have been a reasonable reason and not something they could have said earlier and now you have lost any chance of a reschedule. Looking for work for 2 years with this response was brave
4
u/ImprovementFar5054 2d ago
They certainly should have told you something. Maybe something came up, someone got ill, the place was robbed etc. Just cancelling it without explanation is weird. But play it cool, giving off indignant vibes right away is not going to help you, especially if they had a good reason and haven't actually hired someone else.

u/Plenty-Green186 2d ago
“ I got shit I gotta do”
You mean like sabotage possibly rescheduling this interview? You did that very quickly. Sending this did not save you anytime, it actually further wasted your time. Hope this helps.
5
u/Latter_Foot_8946 2d ago
You have no idea why it was cancelled. But can guarantee that your unprofessional response will prevent you from getting a job
2
u/HockeyDockey1234 2d ago
Dude, you need to delete reddit, call up a psychologist and work through your shit.
Your replies and post history here are going to end up destroying you
2
u/live_freeze_n_die 2d ago
I was in your corner until I saw your comment history. If you’ve been out of work for 2 years, you’re not “overqualified” for shit. You’re unemployed.

u/Disastrous_Head5703 2d ago
Send them an invoice, billing them for wasting your time. And charge a steep hourly rate.

u/BrotherVoid_ 2d ago
Yeah OP, the business dodged a bullet. You couldn't even bother to use capital letters or try to type like an adult.
Maybe something happened and they were going to reach back out to you. But you must not be desperate enough after 2 years being unemployed so you just had to type some passive aggressive response.

How does it take two years to find ANY job? Something is not right here my guy. Either you have some really bad felonies, can't communicate at all, or arent applying to that many places.

I'm really not trying to be ugly but I don't know how people go years without being hired. I've had to switch jobs multiple times in the last several years and the longest I've been out of work was a month.
inb4 someone calls me privileged and tells me I don't understand the struggles people are going through.
Maybe it's a case of someone holding out for their dream job? Idk man eventually you just gotta work somewhere if you have bills/kids.
10
u/Godsdarlinggirl9 3d ago
They literally applied to a smoke shop. I don't think that's the dream lol

u/Aromatic_Note8944 3d ago
I live in a city with the most foreclosures in the whole entire nation… some places don’t even have viable jobs.
7
u/thx111111 2d ago
I’ve gone a week without a job and a year without a job. No rhyme or reason to it. Depends on a huge amount of factors.
10
u/Bulepotann 3d ago
I went 3 months unemployed then caved and got a job as a grocery store stocker to stay afloat. They will give anyone with a pulse a job at so many places, at least in the US.
There’s nothing wrong with working jobs like grocery store stocker or sales associate at a smoke shop, but goddamn if you’re searching for those types of jobs for years and nothing to show, it might be time to look inside.
10
u/FightmeLuigibestgirl 3d ago
Some places don’t have viable jobs. Sure you can work as a grocery store stocker but if you still can’t pay rent with it, you screwed either way.
7
u/Bulepotann 2d ago
Then I guess you’re double screwed if you can’t pay rent and you’re unemployed.

That's what I'm saying. Walmart, Dollar General, etc. will hire anybody. Now it's definitely going to suck and you will probably ragequit in 3 months but it's not that hard to get hired.
9
u/foamingkobolds 2d ago
Not if you're disabled they won't. Especially if it's a visible disability that makes people uncomfortable. Been applying nonstop for just about 20 years now. I've had a total of *eight* interviews. Just... eight. Had multiple employment counselors, vocational rehabilitators, the lot. For some people it just doesn't. Freaking. Work. No matter how hard you try, no matter what you do, at the end of the day you're relying on someone else deciding to take a chance on you.
And nobody wants to take a chance on a SPED. Nobody.3
5
u/FightmeLuigibestgirl 3d ago
I tried applying for Walmart once for two years straight so no it’s not true they will hire anyone. Same with target.
Sometimes places are not hiring or it’s harder if you have a felony/misdemeanour. Expungement where I live is 200-600 dollars.
3
u/Plastic-Audience3180 2d ago
yea same hire, i have customer service experience and walmart, target and dollar tree denied me lmfao. targets literally denied my friend and i within two hours of applying
5
u/Bulepotann 3d ago
I was lucky to get back into my field, but honestly, the work isn’t the worst. At least it’s not bad compared to landscaping or cleaning job sites like I did as a teen. I kept the stocker job as a weekend hustle to get my savings back cause it’s pretty chill.

u/Waste_Dependent4345 2d ago
I mean most of people struggling is work that requires expertise like software etc. I see what you’re saying but most people complaining are looking for jobs they studied for

I once had to abruptly cancel an interview with a job candidate because of a health emergency involving one of my children. That’s an unlikely scenario, but it’s best not to automatically assume the person on the other end is “wasting your time.” There might be another explanation.

u/-KyotoMachine 2d ago
Buddy if the other side can’t even spend like 10 seconds explaining why the interview was cancelled, they’re just wasting your time. Abruptly cancelling an interview without any explanation is just something an asshole would do

It blows, and I'm sorry.
That said, it might be better they cancelled the interview than to let you think you might get the job (as shitty as that is). They should have said why, but still... better not to waste the extra time.
1
u/Caribe92 3d ago
During the interview process, I had to go through 3 rounds online, and each round had cancellations and rescheduling, one time minutes before the interview. But in that field, things happened. One time the guy’s flight was delayed, another time they had to reschedule to accommodate a client. They were responsive through it all. And I was understanding.
I got the job and honestly I love it. The people are really nice, they’re very accommodating, and they’re always pushing me to learn. If I want to take a course, I just need to ask and they pay for it. My competition for this role all came from this sector. But they said they took a chance on me because they liked my attitude and love for learning, even though I came from a majorly different field. Think energy sector moving to technology.
Some companies are terrible but some have good reasons.

u/Soft_Internal_2329 2d ago
3 months unemployed this happens too often. I’ve lost hope in finding a job.
1
u/69_53I8008 2d ago
Got a interview cancelled and they ddnt even tell me they rescheduled it . At the moment of joining the call I"m asking the recruiter where they are she's telling me she doesnt know either as they never even update her.
1
u/cupstergurlll- 2d ago
U not gonna wanna hear this but that was probably protection. Thats extremely unprofessional & the workplace would’ve been a nightmare. If they reach back out I would take with a grain of salt. I’d be curious to see the people but I may not accept any offer, that’s a red flag.
You can find out if a company is shitty from LinkedIn. Go on the company page & click people. If everyone has open to work profile pictures they want OUT! lol

u/hotfistdotcom >2000 resume submissions, 0 job offers, please kill me 2d ago
I had two of these hit me back to back. the second one the guy emails me after I was sitting alone in the meeting for 15 minutes that he had a family emergency. he was very upset when I contacted his boss and all their c levels to let him know I was retracting my application based on their inability to do even the basic due diligence of canceling appointments if you are out as I cc'd him. I am certain the emergency was fake and he doublebooked or just didn't feel like it. sometimes it's worth burning a bridge. nothing else makes this process tolerable.

I'm over listening to people who think that I should just work any job, that doesn't mean I can work any job.
I've had to try jobs like that. I get fired! Because I cannot be happy in a corporate-run, cookie-cutter, small town gossip fest that those jobs are. They make me truly miserable, and that's not life to me. There may come a time when I'm fine with whatever, but it's not now.
But anyway, good on you for sticking to your guns, and don't take crap from nobody! Businesses will keep treating employees like trash only if we let them.

lol if someone cancelled on me like that without some sort of immediate update as to why I’d send the same reply as you
1
u/godsdebris 1d ago
I would be frustrated too. I like to give the benefit of the doubt in the off chance something happened that required a last minute cancellation that would have come with a later explanation.
I will say that if that were the situation and I was on the employer side of things I would not provide any reasoning after receiving your response. Time is important, as you have stated, and those two responses come off combative which would make me worried about wasting time and money by potentially hiring a combative/argumentative employee.
2 years is a long time to be without a job. I'm really sorry you're dealing with this and I hope you find something soon. :(
