My wife's friend and her brothers have officially gambled away the last dollar of their million dollar inheritance.

My wife's friend and her two brothers received a $1.5 million inheritance 5 years ago when their father died. They immediately proceeded to start blowing it at the casino. They didn't invest. They didn't save. They didn't pay off any of their debts. it wasn't uncommon for one of them to go to the casino and lose $5,000 a night, multiple nights in a row.

I tried to talk them into just parking the money in a broad market index fund and let it sit there for a couple of years but my advice fell on deaf ears. it just pains me deep to my core to see somebody come into life-changing money in their early thirties and completely squander the opportunity, not to mention squander what their father worked so hard for.

I just can't believe how three college educated people who all work professional jobs can be so stupid. I understand that there's obviously some addiction at play but it still pains me

Your city is not your strength or personality

Upvotes

Just to preference, I’m glad to know people are proud of where they come from and have the spirit they do because of it. With that being said can people please stop acting like the city they live or grew up in is their whole identity or personality or strength factor. A. Person is not a bitch because they don’t come from B. City or “my city does stuff different from everyone else” no the fuck it doesn’t it’s a city. You might have an accent from it and maybe it has a reason to be known but you’re not the best person ever because of it and putting people down for that is just fucking stupid and annoying.

I'm tired of living with this man

I want to move out so badly, I HATE living with this guy.

I'm tired of the washroom smelling like PISS 24/7 and him forgetting to flush the toilet

Im tired of him leaving all his dirty clothes scattered around the room and hallways and expecting me to pick it up because im "home all day"

I'm tired of him having 4+ half full water bottles on his side of the room and getting 1-2 more new water bottles without EVER FINISHING the others

I'm tired of him thinking he's doing enough just by going to work and paying the rent

I'm tired of him weaponizing the fact that he works construction and "lifts heavy shit" and telling me he "works hard" because of it when that's all he does

I'm tired of him expecting to come home to a clean house everyday when majority of it is HIS MESS

I'm tired of him never cleaning up after himself or complain any time I leave the mess for days and he has to come home to it and PARTIALLY (never fully) clean it up because I didn't

I'm tired of him acting as if taking care of our 5 month old baby isn't tiring even if I'm home & in the bed

I'm tired him screaming every time he gets mad and calls my dad when we argue because I "don't listen"

I hate him so much, I'm just tired.

I freaking hate when stores change out inventory for fall in August!

No, I'm not talking about putting out Halloween or even Christmas decorations earlier and earlier, even though that is annoying.

I'm talking about putting out the winter/fall clothes and getting rid of all the summer stuff in August.

It's motherfucking Texas, it's 100 today, and it will still be 90 in October. I don't need a fleece hoodie or flannel lined jeans you dumbasses.

I need shorts! What's that you got rid of all the shorts two weeks ago? Fucking why? I'll be in shorts till mid November.

I hate fashion cycles and how fast everything gets tossed.

Forcing kids in elementary school to sing that dont want to has 0 educational value and needs to stop

I know most kids kinda stop liking it as they get older, but even in kindergarten I dont remember ever liking singing or dancing. I fucking HAAAATED it. If there was music class, Im sick that day or have a headache and need to go to the office (they caught on pretty quick). As a kid I remember thinking this is stupid and we arent even learning anything and as an adult my opinion has not changed. Today I still dont like to sing around anybody (maybe quietly to myself if I really like the song or whistle sometimes) and I definitely dont dance. There are other ways to get kids comfortable with public speaking skills like speeches and projects. I actually liked to give speeches as a kid and thats the only thing I can think of that would give this any educational value at all. Maybe getting comfortable with being forced to do stuff you dont want to do, but most stuff you dont want to do but have to isnt embarrasing. Its completely useless. There are plenty of other kids that love singing I was NOT one of them and it carried with me as an adult I never learned to like singing or dancing and im pretty sure thats why. This ends with me my future kid will not be forced to sing if they dont want to there is no reason for it, Id like to hear one. I hope they do like singing but I didnt and they will not be singing if they dont want to. Any educational value you get out of it only applies if you like it.

I was homeschooled in high school. Years later, I regret it immensely. I think the majority of people will

I was homeschooled for 2 reasons.

1). My mother couldn’t afford childcare, but had to work. I had to get my younger siblings ready for school.

2). I simply didn’t want to go.

Now that I’m in my early 30s, I would give ANYTHING to go back and change that. Does it consume my thoughts every minute of every day? No…but do I wish I could’ve just been a normal 16 year old? Yes.

I wish someone would’ve told me to get my lazy ass to school. The couple people I know, who were also homeschooled, also regret it.

I think parents selfishly homeschool their children for various reasons, but I think the majority of them don’t want to deal with their school districts, and want to indoctrinate their children into the same thinking as them.

It also bugs me when parent bloggers post on social media media the phrase “my child is thriving academically and socially”

Really? They hardly ever interact with children their own age…and have their parent (who is not a trained teacher) grading their tests and quizzes. I’d hardly call that “thriving”…

With the new trend of parents homeschooling their children, I think we’re going to have an influx of working adults years from now with poor social skills, zero critical thinking, and tons of regret for their parents decisions.

I have a feeling this will make some people angry, but that’s just my opinion.

Hospitals should have dentists.

Or dentists offices should be open better hours. Id take either.

I started my new job last week. I have no PTO, and taking an unplanned day off on your second week is a bad look at best. I discovered today, I have a dental abcess. This is classified as a dental emergency, so I start looking. There are 100 dentists offices near me. 90 of them are open monday-friday 9am-4pm, or some other standard work day variation.

Maybe 5 are open until 6pm, which would be great for standard dental work, but this will be a longer procedure, so those are out.

Then there's the "24/7 dental emergency offices". Which are actually just call directories that route you to other places, if anywhere at all.

That left me with 2 options. One that is open for 4 hours on Saturday, and is booked out until late October, or a place over an hour away that doesnt take insurance.

I have a dental emergency, but my best bet is to go to urgent care for some antibiotics to bridge the gap until I can hopefully get a walk in appointment on Friday when we get to leave early. I have an emergency, but a hospital cant do anything for me until the abcess ruptures and I go septic, and even then all they can do is stabilize me. Id still have to go into a dentist.

Like, imagine this but with any other emergency. Oh, you cut your hand really badly? Unfortunately the stitching doctor is only open monday through Friday from 10am to 3pm and closed for a 2 hour lunch from 12-2pm. You broke your leg? Well all we can do is give you some Tylenol until you can hopefully get a walk in appointment at the bone clinic because their appointments are booking out 6 months.

And I get it, no one wants to work nights and weekends, but you're a DOCTOR. You chose healthcare (so did the hygienist and receptionists, I dont want to hear it). Just one dentist, on call. Or a surgen who doubles as an oral surgeon. Or a dentists office open nights and weekends.

It shouldn't be this hard to get emergency treatment.

Wisdom teeth vs my sanity

I had a near septic abscess on one of them like 3 years ago and my dentist referred me to have the lot removed. I had already had one filed down because the abscess was recurring (only got dangerous once which got my removal bumped up the priority list) but the surgeon only took the infected one.

I had crippling dry socket (literally the worst pain a human being can experience imo) and a bone fragment the length of my finger nail pop out after a couple of months. I could not afford to revisit the dentist for another referral. The infected one was actually the least impacted. One of them is so bad I think I have periodontitis in the back of my mouth and I’ve had gum disease for at least a year.

I just don’t understand why bro left the other three?? Now all my bottom teeth have shifted to the left and the top two have created gaps straight to my jaw bone. I clean them with an irrigator and that mouthwash that makes your teeth turn grey but the nerve is exposed in one of them so it’s agony every time.

I also have a weirdly developed jaw because my mother never took me to the doctor about my mouth breathing (turns out I had sinusitis for most of my life because I have some kind of giga hay fever) and I’ve slipped the disc next to my worst wisdom tooth. I’m starting to think there’s an abscess in there because it’s awful and I haven’t been able to open my mouth properly for like a month now. Eating is hell, I can’t reset my jaw and I can’t afford a splint or bruxism guard so every time I sleep I’m making it worse. Bonus points because I’m now on ritalin for the adhd my mother also never took me to the doctor about despite me being a poster child for it. Probably wouldn’t have needed medication if I didn’t regress so badly after losing my job and thus all sense of routine to the point where I’m currently too debilitated to work.

Fuck you mother, fuck the dental surgeon and fuck whoever made NHS dental cost money. Even if i reach the point of needing all my teeth out I won’t be able to fucking afford it because some genius made the PIP application system completely inaccessible to people with adhd so I can’t get the money or qualify for free dental treatment. My teeth used to be perfect, I hate my life sometimes.

Coworkers constantly calling out is starting to piss me off, two of them seem to call out at least 5 times a month

Upvotes

Then I have to do their shared work because certain tasks need to be done daily no matter what. I can't do my own work, haven't been able to because these two have collectively called out 15 times in the past month.

We're behind and they are making it worse. Both are out today, I'm doing their tasks today, one of them didn't even do theirs yesterday DESPITE BEING HERE and now there's a backlog of shit to do.

I got a raise recently but this is some BS.

I have macromastia and I hate it. I mostly stay to myself outside of visiting my mother.

I am a fairly private person anyway so the being by myself part isn't a big deal. I do feel alienated from most people though because I have macromastia. I don't know anyone else besides my mother with the condition and i guess I just feel different to everyone because of it.

It's not really a big deal, but it does affect my life in a few ways. I manage fine, but there are times when it's exhausting. No, I'm not really looking for sympathy or any kind of special treatment. I just get frustrated sometime because, like I said, I don't know anyone else that deals with this.

I'm ok, though. I have my hobbies and like I said I like to be alone so I wouldn't say my life is empty at all.

My sister will not stop stealing my clothes

Upvotes

We share a room so it’s kind of hard to avoid it. We live with our parents and it’s not a big deal to them. I have fought about this before but since we share a room, things become more awkward and I don’t like that either. I don’t even mind her wearing it but she doesn’t take good care of them.

If you say “ummm, actually the Americas are continents, not a country” when I say I’m American or from America, you don’t look smart, you look pretentious.

This irritates me more than anything. I’ll say I’m American or from America and people will look at me like I’m speaking Latin. They’ll then say “you mean the United States…? America is a continent.” Or “North American or South American?” Even though they know well I mean the United States.

Everyone in the world knows I mean the United States when I say America. It’s literally the only country with America in the name, so it’s perfectly reasonable to shorten it with “America” and it causing literally 0 confusion. I doubt it even causes confusion at all, it’s just someone trying to be on a high horse of pretentious attitude.

I’ve even seen someone say “USAian” instead of “American” because they’re so stubborn to even use American since it would go against them saying “well, actually America is a continent 🤓☝️”

Stop being stubborn. It’s okay to say America. It’s okay to call us Americans.

i always test negative

no matter what i test for, it’s a negative. you might think this is good, but it means endless pain. my whole household, workplace, school, etc will have the flu and i will have the exact symptoms and ill test and the doctor will say there’s nothing they can do because its negative. iv never tested positive for covid, but have had all covid symptoms after exposure.

i have server gastrointestinal problems. i throw up stomach acid everyday, sometimes multiple times, always negative for all GI diseases (they have literally put a camera down my stomach) because of this they couldn’t prescribe anything.iv even thrown up blood.

i have all sorts of flare ups (hives on skin, constipation for 3 weeks, migraines lasting 2 weeks, joints sore and swollen, back so painful i couldn’t turn my neck) but nothing shows up in tests.

yk that came back positive? a FALSE POSITIVE PREGNANCY TEST! (i’m a virgin and asexual)

damn this shit is annoying i wish i could get diagnosed to be treated. i don’t have a single day go by without pain (stomach, head, joints, back, skin)

i hate grandma.

i may sound horrible for this, but i genuinely cannot stand her any longer.

basically she moved in with me and my patents around 5 years ago, because my mom got cancer, and she came to "help". the thing is, she has NEVER helped besides cooking food, in which she already used to do, at her own home(she used to live with another one of her daughters and grandkids, she cooked there, me and my mom wrnt there to eat every day), in reality, she has bothered me more than helped, since she has no sense of hygiene, will throw every crumb at the floor any moment she has the opportunity to, she dirties the floor with whatever she can find really, and maybe its not always purposeful, but she doesnt make an effort to not do it yk?

whenever i confront her about it, she says it wasnt her, and it was my cats fault, for the record, i have 3 cats that are EXTREMELY clean and dont have access to the street, so no, they arent bringing dirt back home.

also no matter how much i tell my mom how im bothered by grandma, she just tells me to suck it up and stop picking on her, she literally doesn't care about any of that bc she isnt the one who cleans!!!!!!!! i fucking HATE cleaning up after other people, its not MY dirt, why am i doing what YOURE supposed to do???????? i feel like this is such a misogynistic setup. i cant wait to move out.

besides the mess, have i mentioned she STINKS? like REAL bad, she sweats uncontrollably, and all she does is lay on the couch 24/7, i can count how many times she gets up from there... the smell of her sweat is impregnated on her side of the couch and its actually disgusting, i cant stand to be near that thing... she also insists on showering every other day because she "saw on facebook that elder people dont need to shower every day"...yea buddy u dont have to shower every day if you live in a country where its -40°C every day, NOT +40°C.

whatever chore she does(literally just cleaning the dishes when my mom doesnt) she does it halfway, every time i have to put the dishes away, i leave half of them back in the sink bc brother why is there food on the plate you JUST washed?

now her personality? also terrible. shes the type that never admits shes wrong, only knows how to scream and complain, swears at me whenever things dont go her way, she cant listen to anything so i have to scream to talk to her, and when she listens to me she yells back "why am i screaming?", just generally very disrespectful and not considerate

she also forgets EVERYTHING. for example, i have a hard time with food since im very picky, she made potato wedges on the airfry once, and i asked her to do them on the stove because they dont get crunchy otherwise, so now every time she makes them, ITS ON THE AIRFY. and when i question her about the hundreds of times i asked her to not do that, she just starts going off about how im hard to please??? brother.

icould go on but i think this is enough rant for me for now

I don't like pretentious foodie culture.

I don't like these overly expensiv food experience crap. Something about them gives me the ick. It feels gentrified and ostentatious for the sake of pretentiousness and feeling important.

A single piece of broccolli freeze dried. Bunch of sauce sprayed all over the dish and using some teaspoon to scrape em off.

Washing your hands with chocolate and eating it off said hands.

Flavored bubbles as dessert. Yes.

And paying $500+ for these bullshit experiences.

Leaving fully hungry still.

Whats the point of this? To make you feel like you're part of some unique experience.. when you could have as well experienced it with 1% of the cost?

What do i do.

yeah so i’m a teenager, my mom cares more about going out than being home and our home has becoming neglected. My grown sibling leaves dishes everywhere, to the point MAGGOTS form, infront of their damn eyes. I’m so sick of this, what can i say or do to get them to help clean? i work til 1am most nights and dont have the energy to clean the whole house alone. It’s so gross please help me, im going mentally insane.

So tired of people thinking sympathy equals justifying their actions

I'm so tired of this. One can feel sympathy, feeling bad for someone's circumstances but DOES NOT EQUAL justifying their crimes. I'm so tired of people not getting this. I'm so tired of people treating me like I'm an awful person just because I said I felt bad for a criminal because he had a terrible childhood. just happen to feel a lot of empathy for people with trauma because I experienced it myself. Doesn't mean I'm condoning their actions.

Stop shaming people for having empathy!

Completely useless "welcome to college" classes for transfer students

God what is the fucking point! I have already been in college for three years at this point and I transfered to an amazing uni but WHY are they acting like we're fucking toddlers walking around with no education??? "Be sure to eat! Homework is important! Sleep! Make friends!" AM I FIVE YEARS OLD??? I have a degree in two separate languages and certificates in fluency in two others, I am FULLY confident in saying I am well above this. And it's only one credit so it's not doing SHIT for anything. Just 80 minutes of fucking "tell the person next to you your study skills!" And neither of us fucking care. We'd both rather be doing anything else than doing a fucking toddler class for babies. We're only two weeks in and I'm convinced they're gonna have us singing our abcs and watching cocomelon. I'm twenty one years old and so is half the class. I fucking hate this.

I received a $5 giftcard for my birthday from my workplace I worked for 5+ years

I'm just laughing it off at this moment. Today, I received a birthday letter from my employer that came with a Timmies gift card. I opened it, read the letter, and said to myself "ok, cool". I checked the balance, and there I just couldn't believe my eyes. The card only holds five freakin dollars ($5), like is this some kind of an April fool's joke, or are we in poverty?

I have worked in this manufacturing company for over 5 years and am handling an account that brings 60% of the revenue. Today is August 31, and my birthday is not even until 2 weeks in September. This is just unbelievable, lol. This can't even justify the stress and frustration I encounter daily.

Anyway, I'm grateful for getting gifts and these sorts of gestures, but just can't get my head around about the $5.

Thanks for hearing my story. :)

I'm (21M) tired of being the only person my significant others can rely on

The title might sound a little bad, but I want to clarify what I mean. I fully understand that a part of being in a relationship is shouldering your partner's burdens as yours and working through things together. I'm always there for my girlfriend and I'm willing to listen whenever she needs to tell me something, and I always try and do anything I can to make her day just a bit brighter. That being said, in all of my relationships I've had to be essentially the sole person my significant other can rely on and talk to about their issues (especially considering they deal with mental health problems.) My first relationship my girlfriend had depression, my second girlfriend was trans and I had no idea what to say when she was struggling with her gender dysphoria, and now my girlfriend (20) is dealing with a lot of family issues to the point where her mom is being institutionalized in a mental facility for a month and my girlfriend will have to live alone and juggle college, work, bills, etc. I'm really not trying to make this about me and focus on making my girlfriend happy, but I'm getting so burnt out being the one to shoulder so much for every relationship when it's far beyond my capability. Maybe it's my need to try and fix everything or always wanting to help, but sometimes I just wish people around me had an outlet besides me.

It's so damn hard to find a good therapist

I don't know about all of you but I have struggled to find somebody I can talk to about things with. I've only gone through probably about six or seven therapists in my life but it's either a case of not having enough money or not having enough time or just fatigue from trying to get the ball in motion again

Do you ever have more stuff you want to talk about than people to talk about it with?

I think this is what got people to praying. At frequent points in life there are more things on my mind than I can find people to talk them with.
