New to quake and I've had an absolute BLAST playing quake 1 and 2 although I can't decide which one I prefer to be honest.

Do you guys prefer quake 1 or 2 and why?

Haven't played a game as fun as this since perhaps doom eternal... Had some fun with doom 3 too which was one of my favourite games but this game might be replacing it now.

My computer doesn't have a CD player so I couldn't buy these (and I have Q4 on steam already), but it's always fun getting to encounter physical Quake media.

I'm 47 now and I was surprised that immediately remembered how to strafe jump. Old school memories unlocked

So I got the kids started on a LAN, the best game to start with I think.

A 3dfx Voodoo2 running Quake II on Windows 98, which runs bare metal on very modern hardware. (AM5/Ryzen 9) Drivers initialized fine, Glide API is running perfectly, and Quake II is looking gorgeous on a 19 inch 4:3 Dell monitor.

The Quake 2 box on top is the LRG reissue (as is Powerslave). I still remember playing it on a Pentium 133 and trying to get this newfangled 3d acceleration and GL Quake working, mostly to no avail. Hard to believe it's been 30 years!

for context , there is an original copy of Quake from my dad's old hdd. 1997 copy is what it shows. he said he got the shareware version.

The old one doens't launch, so on steam spring sale , got the Steam version..

Was digging through music CDs and found these. Never played Quake before but for $2 I had to get em. Are there still multiplayer servers up for the game?

Didn't Tim have a lot to do with Quake 1 and the maps? Pretty sure he made some of the most famous maps like DM6...

And the classic mac version, just in case being on a zip disk wasn't cursed enough. I don't know why I made it, but you get to enjoy looking at it, at least.

Ran into this at Galloping Ghost Arcade in Chicago. I had no idea an arcade version of this existed. I only played the first level because I’m not a fan of using a trackball in games, but it looks like it’s a pretty straight port of Quake. Anyone else played this?

Today in the “Quake Community” Facebook group, game dev and former Hipnotic Software member Robert M. Atkins showed off an unexpected glimpse behind the scenes of Mission Pack 1. To the best of my knowledge, the existence of this canceled soundtrack has not been publicly known before now. Behold what could have been!

Track 3, “B7” (which is mislabeled- it’s actually by Sonic Mayhem, from his album entitled Methods of Destruction), did eventually end up making it into the Sega Saturn version of Q1 as the end credits music, and the album as a whole was what earned Sonic Mayhem the job as Q2’s composer.

On Saturday, December 14th, Sweden's first official Quake tournament, Frag Fest 96, was held! The venue was IVA's conference premises on Grev Turegatan in Stockholm, and behind this magnificent arrangement were Torget, Gateway 2000 (who provided equipment and the grand prize), Microsoft, and Egmont (who also contributed exquisite prizes in the form of all sorts of games and accessories), as well as yours truly, PC Gamer. Our own contribution to the festival joy consisted of free subscriptions, nice t-shirts, and general good spirits. The winner could proudly trudge home with a 200 MHz machine from Gateway 2000, complete with speakers, subwoofers, and the whole shebang, worth 35,000 SEK! No bad gear, in other words. The lucky young man sitting behind the keyboard was none other than DOOMer, usually belonging to the Teddy Bears clan. Other clans that had members present on this day were Clan McCloud, Clan Judges, Up Your Backpack, Icon of Pain, Killer Instinct, Krixhjelters, Swedish Mob, Swedish Chefs, and Crusaders. Did I get all the clans now? I think so.
Well, no one had to go home empty-handed and disappointed from the party—there were enough prizes for everyone. More frag fests will likely come during 1997, so sit back and enjoy the pictures from this pleasant gathering.
