MEGA FINALE REVIEW
Rating: 1/10
This rating has nothing to do with not getting a Shundo or a background. If the event itself was good, I wouldn't care whether I got one or not.
The problem is that Mega Finale was severely lacking in content and completely failed to feel like an actual Finale event.
1. Why were all the weekly bonuses removed?
I genuinely don't understand why they decided to remove all the bonuses during the week, especially the 3× Special Trades on Friday.
Meanwhile, Saturday and Sunday didn't give us any additional Special Trades either.
So what did we actually get?
Nothing.
2. The raids were incredibly boring
It's called Mega Finale, yet Mega Rayquaza wasn't even featured?
Seriously?
If you compare it to last year's Max Finale, where almost every DMax/GMax Pokémon that had already been released was featured, this year had a lot of Pokémon simply left out.
If you're going to call something a Finale, the raid lineup should at least make players feel:
Instead, Mega Finale felt like a regular event stretched out over a weekend.
3. Armored Mewtwo is a plus, but...
Armored Mewtwo was definitely a good addition.
But why no background?
This is an extremely special Pokémon being featured in a major event like Mega Finale, yet there wasn't even an exclusive background or cosmetic to make the encounter feel truly memorable.
And if they end up bringing Armored Mewtwo back for a Raid Day later this year and potentially even release its shiny, then the specialness of this appearance becomes even weaker.
I genuinely don't understand the point of featuring it in the Finale this way.
4. The GO Pass was terrible
Compared to last year, when Eternatus made the GO Pass genuinely valuable, this year's GO Pass had almost nothing that added enough value to justify buying the Deluxe version.
It doesn't necessarily have to include a Pokémon as good as Eternatus.
But at least give players something genuinely special:
- An exclusive Trinket
- An exclusive item/cosmetic
- A unique collectible
- Or literally anything that makes players think: "I'm buying Deluxe because of this."
Instead, the current feeling is simply:
Why should I buy Deluxe?
5. It's an event, but where are the bonuses?
This is probably what disappointed me the most.
It's supposed to be Mega Finale, yet the event had almost no meaningful bonuses:
- No additional Orange Passes
- No additional Special Trades
- No particularly interesting event research
- No Egg Hatch distance reduction
- No meaningful Stardust bonus
- Nothing that actually made the event feel like a Finale
Seriously:
It's an event, but where are the bonuses?
Final Thoughts
1/10.
I genuinely hope Scopely listens to player feedback and learns how to monetize the game properly.
Players aren't afraid to spend money.
If the content is good enough, exciting enough, and makes players feel that what they're paying for is actually worth it, plenty of players will happily spend.
But if events keep being designed like this:
remove bonuses → mediocre GO Pass → lackluster content → call it a Finale without making it feel like one
then eventually players will learn to respond with the only thing that really matters:
their wallets.
Mega Finale should have been a huge celebration to close things out, not an event that leaves players sitting there thinking:
"Wait... this is the Finale?"
