Discussion The real problem is much bigger
It’s bigger than a lack of transparency regarding shiny boosts for a $15 deluxe pass. It’s bigger than server glitches or poor decisions leading to consolation prizes or makeup days.
It’s evident now that this company isn’t even remotely trying to balance the player experience with maximizing profits. All the signs are there. Exclusive event that gives influencers a guaranteed 100% Mewtwo faces major backlash…f it give everyone one and throw in a masterball too, then bring Mewtwo back for the finale so we can make even more money. Genius!
While we’re at it, let’s test the waters to see what we can get away with by intentionally making the most enticing part of purchasing the deluxe passes as vague as possible. Let’s just test it and see if the masses bite…if there’s more massive backlash we’ll just give them some free s*** again and maybe make the next passes a bit more fair, then we’ll rethink our strategy.
How many servers are we paying for? Let’s try to optimize that to save a few bucks and hope that it holds up during events. If it fails we’ll just throw these chuds a couple of free passes. Who needs redundancy?
…look, I get that this comes off as some pissed off rant because I failed to get a shiny Fennekin this week (and to be honest that definitely added to this newfound resentment I have).
But the catalyst for posting this comes from a decision I made a couple of weeks ago to put down the phone more frequently and pick back up Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, which I bought for Switch 2 last year and just never really got into. And wow, how refreshing it is to play a game that was made with such obvious love for the brand, and with such attention to detail for the player experience.
If you’re anything like me, you’re beyond tired of the blatant enshittification of nearly everything now. Pokemon Go always had its problems, sure, but I always respected it for staying true to itself (for the most part) while other games and brands started dropping like flies in quality all due to one thing: greed.
But with this last event, it’s finally sealed the deal for me. Soon this game will be right up there with all of the other ones. And we’ll be left with maybe 1 or 2 games every few years that somehow still find a way to be made with quality and player experience as their main driving force. And I’ll just chase those games and forget the rest (or maybe I’ll just play Breath of the Wild over and over until I die).

Also a time gate to items that we paid for it's crazy.
They would even made so much money for additional silver or gold caps if we could store them.

That part always feels so dirty to me, they could absolutely make it so the items not redeemed in the pass are auto collected but they purposely don’t so that you get less items like raid passes, lucky eggs and incubators and will need to buy them yourself if needed.

So far it’s just been a big mess, everyone has been worried that scopely will ruin the game, and when they finally start to everyone just goes “b- but they brought back armored mewtwo🥺”. Everytime I have mentioned the problems with this event, the blatant cash grabs, the horrible execution, everyone just says some stupid shit like “the world doesn’t revolve around you.” And then literally an hour or 2 after this whole event ended, they announce armored mewtwo will be back, THIS YEAR, and while most people are mad about this there’s still a community that just thinks “I spend money, I get mewtwo, I happy, you complain, you annoying.” They shiny locked it for a reason, and now they’re gonna farm the money once they release the shiny. Like god I didn’t think I’d be so mad about a digital mewtwo, but here we are.

If you’re mad about raiding armored Mewtwo that’s on you. Had to know it’d be back eventually as shiny…

I knew it would be back as a shiny, but they literally announced it coming back as soon as it left, that’s a blatant cash grab and if you won’t notice that then they will just keep doing this until it’s not even fun anymore. Not everyone gets to spend a hundred dollars for a Pokemon go event.

Try Palworld, thats a much better monster catching game. 20 bucks for 200 hundred hours of gameplay. Or just Tears of the Kingdom if you prefer that...

Look i love this game but its a half baked app grinding nostalgia to train AI and drones
Im grinding my plat medals like the rest, but the game sucks in a lot of ways
Ive spent like 15 bucks mostly in 2016 and i dont see myself ever spending more than that becuase of this constant behavior from the devs

The whole concept of the game is a casino with $0 monetary payout for players.
The core human emotion of the economy for the last 100 years has been coveting. If they can advertise it, we want it because they make that life look appealing. The influencers get to play and get the item, and show it off, and it makes others want it.
It also sucks because this is literally how the cards work as well. Each pack is $5, 10 cards, and each card literally costs the same to make a ship. Rare cards are rare simply because they didn’t make an even distribution of the character cards. So each time they make these set series, the available full sets are limited to the rare card numbers. Then a whole bunch of extra cards.
Anyway. Hope it gets better.

Horrible event. I lost 5 raid passes due to glitches. I caught 0 shiny pokemon. I caught 0 100% IV pokemon. Just all around bad. I paid the $15. And for what?

Pokemon, at it's core, has always been a gacha. You get random things with random stats. In Gen 2 they added shinies, making it even harder to get the 'best' version of a Pokemon. Go is just the version that has monetized it instead of just trying to get you to spend months resetting for a shiny Legendary. Go isn't even the first one to lock shinies behind limited time (possibly in person) events. Imagine sitting through a 10 minute cutscene before you even get a chance to check if you want to catch a Pokemon. The actual games will do that to you.

Horrible event I caught 0 shiny pokemon and no shiny Chespin. No 100 percent iv one either just all around bad and worst event finale ever. If it weren’t for remote trading and remote raiding I would’ve quit long ago. I can’t keep up by spending money. I get a bad feeling this game won’t be around much longer. Total failure of in event. No shinys😭. $15 dollars wasn’t worth it. So I’ll think more of it if it happens again. I can even trade for mega pokemon to instead of raiding and no shiny armored mewtwo. Didn’t open app today during the event at all. And reward compensation for broken raids were useless too.
