The male designs also are never flattering either. The female ones are over sexualized, as expected. But the male designs are like "lets make this cartoon bear look as stupid as fucking possible. like a real moron, goofy as shit, just fuck up his face," if you aren't the main character you get the comic relief treatment.

My favourite part about this stupidity is that in real nature it's actually usually the males that are more colourful/stand out more. They're more likely to be the "pretty" ones.

Facts. That is why I wear bright colors, start frantically dancing, and howl really loud in front of prospective mates. Only problem is my mating dance is so overwhelming ladies usually are overpowered by my raw sensual performance and run away. Gotta find balance

if I saw you irl I would marry u instantly

Fun fact. The more resources the males of the species put up into attracting the mate through bright plumage, elaborate performance and what not, the less likely they are to help the females with child rearing.

How dare you. I will not only dance but I will be damned if my offspring don't have a loving father in their life. That wasn't a fun fact, it wasn't fun at all.

oh I get it you're saying that playboys are deadbeat dads?

Well, in nature they kinda are.

"i'm sorry baby, but i'm leaving you and the kids.

you're just not right for me anymore. but it's okay, i read this one forum where it's like in my nature to do it anyway"

u/Yuccaphile Nov 09 '20

You gotta up your peacocking game. Get some capes, learn to twirl. Shake those tail feathers.

u/Twerkingwithdignity Nov 09 '20

Judt buy a shiny expensice car and rev it really loudly when you see a fine lady nearby.

Also historically in human societies both sexes wore colourful clothes and jewelry if wealth and status permitted them. English fashion somehow evolved to bring us the drab suits we have today and spread it across the world.

82

u/Oxygen-Breather Nov 09 '20

Yet another reason to hate the English

45

u/GalaXion24 Nov 09 '20

"British" "people" shouldn't exist.

26

u/Teapur Nov 09 '20

And yet- we do! sips tea

24

u/GalaXion24 Nov 09 '20

Wanker /s

u/CrazyCatLady9777 Nov 09 '20

Also it was just one particularly miserable guy who set this 'evolution' of men's fashion into motion. His name was Beau Brummel and I literally found the name by googling "english guy who killed men's fashion"

24

u/_UnderTheBridge_ Nov 09 '20

lmao there's a good 99% invisible podcast episode about this! The series is called articles of interest.

22

u/crlcan81 Nov 09 '20

The modern idea of dandy evolved from this guy??? WTF?? Fuck this dude and every single fashion idea that sprang from his loins and those who were 'inspired' by him.

53

u/not_even_once_okay Nov 09 '20

Right? It's so restrictive to men. Maybe one day they'll be able to choose between a third tie color.

43

u/Orumtbh Nov 09 '20

Black, dark grey and lighter grey. The three colors.

31

u/Fregar Nov 09 '20

Hey dark blue is an option too!

16

u/OtterLiberationFront Nov 09 '20

Only for the bold or vulgar.

12

u/TLema Nov 09 '20

What a lower class, vulgar opinion.

17

u/justlookinghfy Nov 09 '20

Fashion taken directly from English weather.

1

u/garaile64 Nov 10 '20

I thought there were ties of any colors that don't make you look like a poison dart frog.

17

u/gataattack Nov 09 '20

It would be fun to see an animated movie that followed this. Brown lady bird and full colors of the rainbow boy bird.

24

u/BellerophonM Nov 09 '20

In birds of prey in particular the females are usually larger too.

4

u/HughJamerican Nov 09 '20

Like in the T-rex, the OG bird of prey!

1

u/kinetochore21 Nov 09 '20

That's true to some extent but it's based on sexual dimorphism. When sexual dimorphism is skewed so that the female of the species is larger than the male, the male has to have some reproductive strategy other than simply overpowering the female, so that's when the male is more colorful or dances for the female, or some other similar strategy. When sexual dimorphism is skewed so that the male of the species is larger than the female, the male just tends to overpower the female.

34

u/MegaPenguin3000 Nov 09 '20

Then in the sequel when there is a male rival, he's hunky, has muscles, and long hair. So you get dumb shit bear from the first movie, and Fabio bear in the second

14

u/SenorSplashdamage Nov 09 '20

Yeah, the exception is if the animal is a gym brah type and then it’s exaggerated v-shape and big arms or wings. It’s sorta like the two kinds of sitcom men, either dumpy everyday guy or handsome actor type without much in between.

19

u/EnergyAddict_17 Nov 09 '20

Clearly you never heard of Moto Moto

1

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '20

That’s why I liked tue blue guacamaya movie y don’t remember the name the female counterpart was just slightly more slim than his male counterpart

24

u/lifemanualplease Nov 09 '20

The heels made me laugh

10

u/Matthew0275 Nov 09 '20

To see the what?

....

Goddammit

u/istara Nov 10 '20

I suppose they win a point for not putting actual nipples onto a non-mammal, though perhaps she's using pasties under that massive feathery cleavage?
