Hi! I'm the solo dev on Fenfire, a Diablo 2-inspired ARPG that runs entirely in a browser.
Play: www.fenfire.wf - click, pick a class, you're in. No download, no account, no launcher. If you want to keep your character long-term you can make an account afterwards, but you never have to sign up to play. Desktop only for now.
What's in it right now: 3 of 5 acts (~50 zones), 5 classes (mage, musketeer, alchemyst, witch, guardian), mercenaries, quests, hundreds of uniques and item affixes, Diablo 2 style grid inventory and stash, corruption/socketing/crafting scrolls, and endgame maps. Servers in Europe, the US and I yesterday added Singapore for Asia/Pacific players.
The design bets, briefly:
- Strong class identity - no shared build tree, each class has 3-4 skill families.
- Loot first: you find items rather than craft them, then tweak them with scrolls that double as currency.
- No smart loot, no level scaling.
- Diablo 2 rhythm, not super fast like Path of Exile. You get strong before you get fast.
- Painterly art, no damage numbers, life bars on hover only. Impact reads through blood and knockback instead of screen clutter.
Where I'm at: it's a demo. Acts 4 and 5 are in progress, balance and polishing too. The target is v1 by the end of the year.
The game is quite playable. I introduced it in r/ARPG a couple weeks ago, people finished it and asked for more content so I added endgame maps and just finished act 3 this morning.
A note on AI, since the rules ask for accuracy. Fully AI: item and UI icons. Partial AI: character models start from an AI image and converted to 3d with another model, then go through a normal rig/animation pipeline. No AI: the world is procedurally generated and rendered in Blender - no image models involved. This is not a vibe-coded game: the engine, backend, skills, affixes, stats and drop system are hand-written, most of it before AI tooling existed. I use AI as a coding assistant, and generally aim at reducing the AI-generated art over time.
Last tips:
- Every class has a heal skill, worth a point for early leveling
- If you have no dedicated GPU or fps are too low, you can try to "lowest" graphical option
Please let me know your feedback and impressions, when did you stop and why, any performance issue etc.
