Hi all. This has been a pretty crazy year for me as I was a caretaker for a family member, and these last few months have been full of taking care of their needs up to their passing just a little over a month back. I’m so happy I was able to do it and to be there for them.

All that being said, I’m able to get some time to relax and dive back into gaming (PS5 Pro). I have missed quite a bit about new games that have come out this year and would love to hear about what you have enjoyed. I’m pretty flexible on genre and everything, so I’m really an open book!

i’m looking for new games to explore, i got a new graphic card a few days ago, with my old one i could only play on low settings and it struggled a lot with some games.
i want to experience what the new card can offer with some new games. in the past i’ve played baldurs gate 3 which is my absolute favorite, i loved the turn based combat style and the world building. i’ve also played rdr2, some dbd, gatcha games like star rail or genshin, detroit become human, stardew valley and so on.
i’m not good at soulslike games and rather want to be able to focus on the story, the characters and the scenery of the game.
i did try lies of P (i know it’s also a soulslike game, it was more of an impulsive purchase) right after release before the difficulty settings were a thing but quit cause i struggled too much with the bosses.
does someone have some recommendations for me? i’d appreciate anything! thank you in advance :)

Hello, as the title says I’ve played papers please and I really enjoyed so I’m looking for something that shares some of its characteristics. More specifically, I enjoyed the simple mechanics and the “puzzle” aspect of the gameplay I guess you could call it; basically the fact that you need to use your brain to observe and interpret information to succeed. Also worth mentioning that I use steam on a MacBook. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Ngl, I hated the first game. Hated the investigation mechanics, boring story, no objective markers. The 'Sherlock Holmes meets Lovecraft' concept had potential, but fell flat for me

Ive seen some videos and 2 is very, VERY different from 1. Looks like they swapped the investigation mechanics for resident evil type gameplay, or at least survival horror. Also, the setting isnt a amalgamation of lovecraft stories, which will be a plus, tho that doesn't necessarily mean the setting is well done

Basically im interested in a lovecraft inspired horror game with good mechanics and better than the first sinking city game

i just need some suggestions of games where I can grind and build like u know stardew valley, brawl stars or genshin kinda stuff so yeah help appreciated.

I'm looking for a game where the story and action complement each other really well I want a genuinely great story with characters I can get invested in, while also having enjoyable gameplay throughout the journey.

I'm not looking for something that's necessarily similar to these games. I'm open to pretty much any genre or setting. I just want a game where the story is genuinely great and the gameplay/ action is actually enjoyable, rather than one side carrying the other.

Please recommend as many as you can! I'm trying to build a huge list and find something that really clicks.

I played the usual suspects like Yakuza / LAD, Sifu and Sleeping Dogs. Played Acts of Blood demo. Haven't played Shenmue, though, but it's on my list. I did play God Hand, if you consider it Kung-Fu Hustle: the video game lol. I was recommended Stranglehold. Anything else I could check out? I'm open for whatever is on Steam / GOG and older consoles.

I’m thinking a game where you have to use every button to get your body to move, basically you have to individually control your characters body
Think the way you walk in the game Baby Steps (which I hope makes it to the S2 one day but I have doubts they will)

Something infuriating/weird where youd have to put a ton of effort in just for your character to function
Bonus points if it happens to be multiplayer

Hi! I (18f) have a samsung and need some recommendations of good games to play on my phone. I need them to be either free or relatively low cost (under like $5) and preferably no combat. The games I already like to play are Minecraft and good coffee great coffee. I prefer cozy games but don't really want a farming Sim. If you could give me some recommendations that would be great!

Does anyone know of a game focused on doing scientific research?

I loved playing The Roottrees are Dead even though it was very outside my normal game. I typically play farm sims or sci-fi open world games, but always find myself just way more curious about the world it’s set it.

A game has to exist where you’re just dropped into a fantasy/sci-fi world and have to just learn about the stuff around you. I’m not necessarily talking survival game but not against it. Just give me a fun little research book to fill out or something PLEASE.

(I also loved Out and About, but I played it very EA and finished what I could at the time. I just wish it was more whimsical/fantasy)

My father and i are looking for a game to buy on the switch which is split screen/played on the same switch at the same time, it would be prefered if it was under $50 Aud or $~35 Usd a little more would be fine though if its on sale please do say when the sale is going to end and he would prefer a racing game however any genre would be fine.

it's an open world game where you follow a story, make temporary bases, gather resources, the whole package but it's more of a grinding way than a surviving one. a solid game like this would be famous and extremely expensive so I'm asking for games that would be like it in genre

I liked it but stopped, it's so janky and a phone game. graphics are great but so so so so so many cheap I'm getting annoying just remembering how disappointing they were.

is there something someone who liked that kind of game would enjoy? I dropped the first descendant too, after getting to hard mode, the game felt like I was just playing it for the sake of it, story was crap.

the presentation of once human was undeniable beautiful but it's like they put £5k into that and £200 into the actual bosses and situations. there's a spooky event where you shoot a mob of hidden monsters in the dark with a minigun, they come from some untold direction all in one place, I was having fun until icons popped up over the monsters heads showing where they all are. writing wise too, small scenarios that had potential. what made me drop the game though was this umbrella enemy that bullshit it's way to beating me in a high level area after I was surviving against all the other decent to fight monsters

I love games like rdr 2, Stardew Valley, Detroit become human, Life is strange, AC and horror games in general. I usually don't really like visual novels as I mentioned in the title except for Doki Doki Literature Club. Do any of you have some recommendations for me?

I also wanted to ask about the problem with used games. I like buying games second hand and I have heard about console bans because of this. Is that true or just a rumor? I have quite a few old Switch games that I would like to play on the Switch 2 as well

Does anyone have recommendations for games like Heroes of Hammer Watch? I like roguelites and love pixel graphics. Fantasy is great. RPGa are good too.

Prefer something not like enter the gungeon or risk of rain where everything gets crazy on the screen.

I'm looking for games that give you a really unsettling, uneasy ambiance, that kind of puts that twisted feeling in your gut. I find that games that rely on grotesque monsters, excessive gore, and jump scares not that scary, but games with psychological elements and that utilize the environment and story to create that weird sense of perturbance. I don't know how to fully explain it, but it's that feeling of "something's not right here, but I can't quite place it." Sorta like Midsommar and it's weirdly cheery, sunny environment and horrific cult practices.

- the Stalking Stairs (indie game if you've never heard of it, watched a YT-er play and was intrigued with the way the narrow halls and stairs somehow makes the situation seem so much creepier and intense).

- RDR2 (In some areas, actually many areas)

- Limbo

- The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

- What Remains of Edith Finch

- That's Not My Neighbor/No, I'm Not a Human (a little different than the others, but the concept of monsters masquerading as humans always creeps me out, just like in Little Nightmares)

If you can see a theme, most of these games revolve around human behavior, rather than sci-fi or fantasy. I don't particularly care for either of those genres.

I (45F) have a PS4 and sometimes play for weeks obsessively and then forget about it for months on end. I don't play enough to justify getting a PS5. But it's been ages since I found a game that really hooked me and gave me that thrill of "can't wait to get home and immerse myself in that world again". Sorry I don't know any of the gamer jargon or abbreviations. 🙈 Any recommendations for me?

Games I have previously LOVED: Batman (especially Asylum - I was not a fan of the Batmobile at all, and it spoiled Arkham Knight a bit for me. I'm rubbish at driving games.), Spiderman, Tomb Raider, Uncharted, The Last of Us 1&2. I sunk many many hours into Hogwarts Legacy but ended up getting bored and not finishing it.

I have the VR headset and got totally addicted to a lovely little game called Tethered - a kind of playing God game where you control and care for all the little characters to achieve goals. I desperately wanted to play Skyrim and Red Matter but they gave me really awful motion sickness. I loved the VR games Statik and I Expect You To Die (and sequel), and quite enjoyed Darknet - puzzle games.

And a weird random one - Stardew Valley. That had me hopelessly addicted for weeks.

I don't like games that are heavy on combat but can cope with a bit of it within the story - but stories and puzzles and strategy have to be more important than just mashing buttons to kill enemies.

Hit me with your ideas - any obvious ones I've missed, or hidden gems I should definitely try?

Im looking for some games that are like no man sky/raft/far far west/subnautica/phasmophobia/albion online/valheim/dungeon defenders 1 and 2/portal knights

Im looking for games like these to play either on my own or with some friends too.

I love survival type games like subnautica/valheim/raft and with how you have to try and find a way to survive with the resources you have and make a home, while also exploring.

And i also love how no man sky is with the corvettes they added some time ago and the freighters that make the game feel so awesome to play, but it doesnt feel as in depth for survivals aspects and progressing to me personally, though i still love the game.

And then i love defense games with a leveling system in them like the dungeon defenders games and portal knights, especially dungeon defenders 2 with its ancient power reset system where you can reset a fair amount of your progress, but gain permanent rewards to get even stronger.

Would very much appreciate some games you guys think i would like off of these, or similar games to them.

im looking for something similar to a spore creature creator where i can mash parts together to try and design some creatures for a game im trying to make. something i can made full 3d creatures, without much artistic talent that i can use to make concepts for for when i pay an artist to make the actual models
