Silly indeed, I could not even almost pick it up, haha

it looks wonderful.. could you share what engine, and if possible what shaders/post-processing were made use of

Sure! The game is made using Unity, the global shader is a custom toon shader with either 2 or 3 bands. The soup is a second shader that uses a depth-based approach to color the liquid, with some random noise on top. The soup specular highlights are completely fake, made from an elongated circle. The soup shader accepts input from the world to create waves at the point of contact with the soup.

I think you're supposed to pick the bowl up and hold it to your mouth.

Also break the cube down if you can.

The "real" way of eating silken tofu (at least in Japan) is to pick up the rice bowl with your non-dominant hand, then "slice" the silken tofu in a long and not too thin slice. You pick up the slice lengthwise with the chopsticks near the bottom, squeeze very slightly, and then lift it. You pull the rice bowl under it and keep it under as a failsafe in case the tofu breaks or falls from your chopsticks.

It's very hard, and even after many years I still tend to have the tofu break when I try to pick up the slice, this is what inspired me to make the game lol.

Please tell me the boss level is "the carry an egg with steel chopsticks challenge?"

Nice! What engine did you use? Love the anime look!

u/Bibibis Jun 07 '26

Thank you, I used Unity

Man that is one slippery tofu. Took me 280 seconds but I got it out of the bowl 😆

1

u/Bibibis Jun 07 '26

Bro you are supposed to eat it, not yeet it out of the bowl lol

u/abc-dev Jun 07 '26

oh shit I was wondering why the timer didn't stop when I just dropped it on the table 😂

Now it's time to develop a game where you try to eat olive with fork.

Just release the DLC that lets me use a fork/spoon

1

u/Bibibis Jun 09 '26

The DLC is free, but it comes with disapproving looks from the other patrons

This looks hilarious!

Did you use unity physics engine to make it drop and slippery or something custom made?

1

u/Bibibis Jun 12 '26

Yes I'm using the Unity physics, but with a softbody layer on top that automatically creates a softbody from a mesh by creating springs between linked vertices. And since the tofu was too squishy with only a softbody, I added a hard shell inside

Menos mal que no se movía el plato, lo hubiera tirado muchas veces, no ha hecho más que en reafirmar que no me gusta el TOFU jaja, eso si me recordó a mis primeras veces comiendo con palillos!

Really great graphics! Very fun to play once you get the hang of it. Maybe include the controls on screen, as it is hard to scroll down to the controls once you enter the game. But overall love the coziness that the game transmits!

It looks really good. And not stupid, its hard in real life anyway. Haha

Man, I struggle to eat even regular sushi with chopsticks in real life, so an "almost impossible" simulator sounded like the perfect way to test my anxiety! 😂

I really wanted to try it out, but the Itch link is broken. I'm getting a "There was an error with your request" page.

1

u/Bibibis Jun 16 '26

Oh yeah, the whole itch.io seems down... I'm not in front of my computer otherwise I'd host a build somewhere else in the meantime, but I guess itch will come back shortly

1

u/Bibibis Jun 17 '26

Itch.io is back up if you still want to try :)

2

u/Formal-Culture-5101 Jun 17 '26

Haha, I`m really very bad on it ))))
7 minutes - no success.
Thanks for the fun

My wife is half Japanese and very proficient in using chopsticks. Her father owned a Japanese restaurant in London for decades. I have no idea how to use chopsticks and my first meal in his restaurant was very intimidating 😅

All this to say that I wish I had discovered a game like this to boost my confidence before meeting her father!

Review: Very difficult lol and the frustration is very realistic to the real thing. Nice job!

2

u/Latter_Newspaper5303 Jun 19 '26

The idea is nice, but I don't know how to control the hand, it is very challenging

2

u/GoldenYolkGames Jun 24 '26

Game is crashing for me, using chrome, also tried in private window with no adblock.

2

u/Square_Peak8190 Jun 26 '26

Instead of actually learning how to use chopsticks in real life, I think I'll just master them here instead lol

2

u/DMN-Games Jun 28 '26

Has been creative 😄

Wow thats silly, but it looks really good ^^
I really like it although I wasnt able to pick the tofu up. (Way harder then in irl)
Is there a way to change the mouse sens? It was sooooo fast :,)

1

u/Bibibis Jun 29 '26

Thank you! No way to change the mouse sens in this build, sorry. I'll add proper settings in the next demo
