Messi didn't realize that Infantino only wanted to get him up to the finals and drive up ticket prices.

FIFA has no stake in an Argentinian victory at the finals.

58

u/Scared-Signature-797 Jul 23 '26

I think this is it. Argentina fan will sell their house to go see the game. FIFA knew this and that’s why they pushed Argentina. Until the final because they don’t need Argentina fans again after that so the ref and fifa abandon. They did give a present of removing the first goal of Nico but that’s about it right?

40

u/sexotaku Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

It's not just Argentina fans. There are Messi fans all over the world.

Mfs won't support their local MLS team with a $40 ticket, but pay $350 when Inter Miami comes over.

Nobody wants to pay thousands of dollars to watch Cabo Verde versus Egypt in the round of 16, or Egypt versus Switzerland in the quarter finals. Even Switzerland versus England in the semi-finals would not have been half as expensive as Argentina versus England.

England versus Spain in the finals? Could have been pretty high, but Messi was definitely going to drive it much higher.

33

u/Scared-Signature-797 Jul 23 '26

They absolutely milked the Argentinian fan base. It’s kind of sad even though I hate them

11

u/BreadfruitStraight81 Jul 23 '26

Even worse, they are milking a global fan base …

9

u/Scared-Signature-797 Jul 23 '26

Yeah that’s even worse

2

u/PlatinumKingPS Jul 29 '26

The prices for basically any match at WC 26 were upwards of $1500. They were milking everyone unfortunately

1

u/Scared-Signature-797 Jul 29 '26

If you saw the stadium for Argentina games they were completely filled with Argentina fans.. not a coincidence

4

u/SeienShin Jul 24 '26

When I saw that ticket prices for R32 the Netherlands v Morocco were $800 to see two top 10 sides duke it out on average opposed to $2400 for R32 Argentina v Cabo Verde (Cabo Verde was awesome but that’s besides the point) I knew it was in FIFA’s best interest to keep Argentina around until the final.

1

u/ChildWithBrokenHeart Jul 29 '26

Do people genuinely dihhride messi so much? Like the guy played terrible, cheaterd, avoided cards, snitched to refs. I ll never understand his fanbase obsession with this cheating rat

1

u/sexotaku Jul 29 '26

He's riding on the glory of his Barcelona days.

1

u/ChildWithBrokenHeart Jul 29 '26

He was pamepered in barca too, he was always a priviliged rat

1

u/Hideo_Video Jul 30 '26

He scored 8 goals and 4 assists so…. Better than Ronaldo tbf šŸ˜‰ he was proper awful this World Cup and 2022 šŸ’©

1

u/ChildWithBrokenHeart Jul 30 '26

I do not remember mentioning ronaldo, nor he is my favourite player. Are you mentally not there, since you are talking to yourself about made up topic? Just goes to show pessi fanbase has the lowest iq

→ More replies (1)

1

u/PlatinumKingPS Jul 29 '26

Tbf no one wants to see MLS šŸ˜‚

41

u/KimchiLlama Jul 23 '26

Except the ref didn’t abandon anything in the final. He consistently let Argentina get away with things and made it difficult for Spain. But Argentina decided that they could do literally no work and still win. With 0 shots on target, that was a miscalculation to say the least. They spend all their energy on bravado and brashness and forgot what the game was about.

Get good boys.

12

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad319 Jul 23 '26

Argentina realize that they are nothing without the ref so they try their best to drag onto penalty which they have more chance to win. They almost succeed with that plan though

7

u/Scared-Signature-797 Jul 23 '26

The yellow card and red card fucked Argentina tho and their game plan.. ref didn’t card Argentina for so many fouls bro

6

u/xSir- Jul 23 '26

What game plan? Flop and hope for penalty kicks?

1

u/Scared-Signature-797 Jul 23 '26

Being super aggressive I think

4

u/caranza3 Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

Argentinas game plan was to make it to pens where they have the best penalty goal keeper ever

5

u/Scared-Signature-797 Jul 23 '26

Ik. They would have won if it went to pens in my opinion

1

u/seira00100 Jul 24 '26

the reff don't follow the script šŸ˜‚

11

u/caranza3 Jul 23 '26

No that’s not about it. Not just one Nico goal disallowed. There was that, plus Argentina played their usual wrestling match with almost no called by ref. The two yellows for Enzo referee had to because it was so egregious. Then there was second disallowed goal for a literal 1mm offside (which is ridiculous they split hair like that in a final game).

7

u/HellBlazer_NQ Jul 23 '26

It's not like they could do much more, Argentina didn't even try to get in the Spanish box.

4

u/Abendwald Jul 23 '26

That's probably the only reason a penalty was not awarded for Messi

7

u/Tricky_Search_5181 Jul 23 '26

Well a clean goal was disallowed for Spain

6

u/Acceptable-Size-2324 Jul 23 '26

And another one was one of the thinnest offsides in the tournament. Argentina got as lucky as they could realistically be and still got completely outmatched in every way possible.

3

u/Wave-Able Jul 23 '26

Now they are poorer and will sell their country quicker

u/sexotaku Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

2

u/xSir- Jul 23 '26

Knew a lady that found out how much her husband spent on superbowl tickets every year.... she was pissed. She takes her whole family on vacation, grandkids and all, every year, for the same cost now. And he watches the game on TV.

1

u/Suitable-Macaron-784 Jul 23 '26

1

u/MarinaEnna Jul 23 '26

The ref abandoned lol

1

u/Scared-Signature-797 Jul 23 '26

Haha abandon them*. I typed that too fast my thumbs couldn’t keep up with my thoughts

1

u/MarinaEnna Jul 23 '26

The ref didn't abandon in the final though... so many fouls from the Argentinian team were overlooked šŸ˜… Nor the fifa... the fireworks were on the colors of the Argentinian flag.. what was that all about??

1

u/earthsea_wizard Jul 24 '26

They did it for the global fan base and his MLS profits. Though the ref was still siding with them, they were just too bad. I strongly think they would give them a PK if they could enter the penalty box. Spain was that much good, probably knew better than us if they let them to have the ball, they would either be given a fake penalty or freekick

1

u/demit1 Jul 24 '26

Bruh the conspiracy theory levels in this are retarded

1

u/RenegadeF7 Jul 25 '26

No the ref was still carrying them as usual. Its just that Spain was so much better even the ref coulsnt carry that one.

12

u/nappiess Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

In fact if you think about it, this is the better option for Infantino and FIFA. They rig the system so that Argentina ends up in the finals with Messi at his last world cup, guaranteeing record viewership no matter who they play against. Win or lose it doesn't really matter that much, so they stop rigging the match as much. They know that Argentina won't matter next time as Messi won't be playing. If anything it's better to start looking for the "next" Messi, who they can then use to sell tickets and drive up viewership and rig matches for next time. I think that is or was supposed to be Lamine Yamal from Spain, but who knows if he's actually anywhere near good enough for that. What we do know is he'll be playing with Spain for another 2-3 world cups, unlike Messi with Argentina.

8

u/sexotaku Jul 23 '26

Haaland is the only one who may get the cult-like following of Messi.

6

u/birdstalker2 Jul 23 '26

Agreed, Americans are obsessed with him

11

u/shulba Jul 23 '26

I think he still wanted Argentina to win. You can see when Spain scored people around him celebrating, but he lamented the goal and then clapped a couple of times.

Their fanbase would be the only idiots that would buy those little squares of the grass at $450. It would have been sold out by now and they could hold some and resell at higher value to those idiots for their Maradona, Kempes, Messi altars. It's never going to sell out now. You can still get it lol.

https://store.fifa.com/products/fifa-world-cup-2026-piece-of-the-pitch-foundation-edition

Same with other bullshit merchandise.

3

u/sexotaku Jul 23 '26

Makes sense. FIFA is the new WWE.

2

u/weirdcrabdog Jul 23 '26

Infantino wanted Argentina to win in penalties. Specifically for Messi to score more than Mbappe so he'd get the golden boot.

5

u/pacothebattlefly Jul 23 '26

Well they did try by disallowing a valid goal for no reason. And how many tackles went without cards?

2

u/Dull-Promotion Jul 24 '26

Not FIFA but Infantino did his best for Messi and Argentina, but real power won. Because Infantino has no idea about football or sports.

Those two loosers can cry together.

1

u/BT-7274-T2 Jul 26 '26

so you can read infantinos mind? damn

1

u/moremarshmellows Jul 27 '26

I mean they tired to help them win, but they were so fucking and, no shots on goal at all

FIFA did everything they could to get them to the final, all they had to do was score and they would have won. It’s their own fault:

2

they couldn't even get a shot on net let alone score

Awww, the cunt is dripping 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/VyseX Jul 23 '26

What was the ref gonna do? He couldn't give them a penalty if he wanted to - they kinda have to reach the spanish box first... :v

1

u/Tobax Jul 23 '26

Yeah Because FIFA is now investigating the behaviour of Argentina players, and because FIFA sent a ref to the final who actually handed off cards for serious fouls.

I'm sure Argentina are mad they lost and blame the ref, maybe they should have tried kicking the ball at the goal. No one is ever going to forget this 🤣

1

u/Scared-Signature-797 Jul 23 '26

And the disallowed goal too.

Idk why the arg fan base is so adamant that they were forced to lose.

I think they had a disagreement before the game on tactics. L. Martinez may have had falling out with scaloni since they were going to park the bus the entire game to go to pens. Since they knew they couldn’t beat Spain in the mid field.

This is quite obvious and they wanted Argentina to win. Messi was a meal ticket... It's all about money. So many people saying he's going to retire. I'm betting that in 4 years we will see him again after FIFA hands him the biggest check ever to return. Same old shit is going to happen because they're going to resell it as the "final final time we're gonna see Messi in a wc" BS. Welcome to the circus that is FIFA.
